And he's done this astounding U-Turn in the most intellectually bankrupt way possible - he claims it's because Mayor Schier "agreed" to his idea about staging the project! A proposal that Mayor Schier herself first proposed several weeks ago, and documented in the council's records prior to this week's committee meeting on the project. $140M is the budget that the Mayor announced for this first stage, with $33M the likely council contribution.
What happened, Gavin? Why do you claim to be "stunned" with this conversation with the Mayor when all she did was tell you what her announced plan was WEEKS AGO! Did you sleep thru the last two weeks? This wasn't a compromise YOU had anything to do with, despite your saturday morning masturbatory fantasies and delusions of grandeur.
Then this Gavin King, after weeks of bootlicking at 4CA and pounding the table about the "use of vital port land for this monstrosity", does an even more amazing U-Turn: He says "We need to stop squabbling over alternative locations and agree that it should be built on the waterfront site. . . .we've got to bite the bullet and trust and listen to Ports North when they say that site was never earmarked for future port development."
This after weeks of agreeing with Rugnut and the Hillbillies that the "port authority were lying arseholes" and we vitally needed this 200 meters of inlet land for "the great new business opportunities that we'll have in the future". Such business opportunities never defined because they will never exist.
Gavin King has just shown himself to be no more than a fucking MacKenzie lapdog. Is he now going to go on this radio show and tell Macca and his 300 Hillbillies that they're all wrong, they need to get on the bandwagon, full speed ahead?
Word today is Gavin King was smacked into line by senior News Ltd. management, who have indicated they are fully in support of this project for Cairns. After King's embarrassing performance on the Rugnut show this week, News Ltd management had enough with his antics and, he's rolled over like the good media lapdog is trained to do.
In any event this capitulation, plus ex-Mayor Byrne's admission that he would have put the residents in debt to the tune of almost $100M had he been reelected, has signaled that the project is rapidly gaining traction as the naysayers are drowned out.
Thanks Gavin. Now get your shine box.
