With his media manipulator mode in full swing, he notes that "Brisbane rates would rise only 1.79%", and Tablelands Council had come in with a 4.12% rise. Comparisons to Brisbane are especially inappropriate, as everyone knows how generous the state government is to southeast corner councils.
Funny how King and Ol'
Cueball MacKenzie never point out all the small-region councils who have rates far in excess of that we get charged in Cairns. Cairns homeowners are charged an average of $1400, with the Sunshine Coast charging $2150, mining powerhouse councils Gladstone and Rockhampton charging $2200 and $2400, and even Townsville being 20% or more above Cairns. Bundaberg, MacKay, and Gympie all higher - much higher - than the relative discount we enjoy in Cairns.
Why are the "facts" presented by Gavin King so manipulated and skewed by him and the Cairns Post? Everything that comes out of this guy's mouth is a lie. Why can't we get some "fair and balanced" reporting from our monopoly media source? How far up this guy's arse has Kevin Byrne shoved his arm, to get King to be such an obvious puppet?
