Ironically, big community announcements have been the norm since Macca left his audience of knockers and naysayers in the lurch. These have included:
1. Finalisation of the CBD Master Plan, which sees among other things City Place removed and Grafton Street reconfigured like Macca's favourite, MacLeod Street.
2. A $24 Million investment in foreshore works by Cairns Ports, tying the Entertainment Centre precinct into the entire waterfront plan.
3. The public accolades received for the two tropical-inspired designs for the long awaited Cairns Entertainment Precinct.
4. The likely expansion of HMAS Cairns as the Australian military finally accepts that neither New Zealand nor the Antarctic scientific bases pose any threat to Sydney or Melbourne.
All of these announcements were warmly embraced even by the darling of the hillbilly set, Margaret "I Love Pie" Cochrane. She'll undoubtably be in front of the 4CA microphone later this week to disavow any knowledge or support of these projects she's VOTED TO APPROVE time and time again. All while giving Macca a handjob under the desk, the new 4CA equivalent of "cash for comment".
Sure these projects were slow in coming. Unlike the previous regime helmed by Mayor Adolf Byrne, these projects all are receiving extensive and thoughtful community consultation, a process that DOES take time. We're sure to cop the patented John MacKenzie vitriol and anger at anything and everything when he returns, so much anger you can actually feel the spittle fly over the airwaves. MacKenzie and his 300 hillbillies hate change even more than they hate life itself.
Pack your bags, Cueball. You've been done over.
