MACKENZIE TARGET OF NEW "CASH FOR COMMENT" INVESTIGATION BY ACMA INTO INCREASINGLY DODGY PORT DOUGLAS MIRAGE DEAL

We've received word (and a copy) of a new complaint that's been lodged against "The John MacKenzie Hillbilly Hour" and Cairns radio station 4CA, owned by Prime Radio.

The complainant alleges that the submitted documents (which also include a recording) show that Cueball MacKenzie is taking payments from the Sheraton Mirage Hotel (a Starwood Hotel), and others involved in the scheme for access to 4CA and MacKenzie's expertise to "manage" the media campaign to secure government funds for this private venture at Port Douglas.

(The use of the words "MacKenzie" and "expertise" in the same sentence I'm sure make us all want to upchuck, sorry.)

TURNBULL WARNS ENTSCH THAT HE WON'T
STAY IN SOME BULLSHIT MOUNTAIN VIEW ROOM
It is also alleged that MacKenzie's participation in the media blitz was organised by federal MP Warren Entsch, who's behind-the-scenes involvement in the project is still being investigated.  A recent "invitation only" public meeting held in Port Douglas was organised with the help of Entsch and MacKenzie and attended by MacKenzie as well, where he reportedly acted like a middle school cheerleader for the project.

ACMA regulation and federal law prohibit broadcasters from taking payments or "payments in kind" in exchange for their spruking companies or projects like what's been proposed at the Mirage.  MacKenzie is no stranger to ACMA complaints, with several upheld against him in the last few years.

Developer David Marriner has a long and checkered history with failed projects, Google is your friend to research his dodgy past. His Laguna Quays failure saw him in a stoush with the Queensland Labor government as he tried to "strong-arm" taxpayer monies for this private project.

And like Laguna Quays, Marriner's company has acted in part as a "strawman" for unnamed and hidden mainland Chinese interests, a fact MacKenzie has warned Marriner not to mention to the Cairns community.  No way anyone would support one Aussie dollar be given to wealthy Chinese investors.

The whole mess has a putrid "Entsch Stench" to it already.  Hence the publicity campaign to paint the plan as some kind of "saviour" for Port Douglas, using the threat that without government money to prop up the plans, the resort cannot stay open during the needed refurbishment.  An ACMA investigation will hopefully uncover the Entschy connection to this mess.

Been to the Mirage lately?  It's a dump.  Run down and dilapidated, Marriner and his Chinese investors bought it for a rock-bottom price.  Now they want federal and state TAXPAYER money, or else?

We can hardly wait to find out what kind of back room deal has been made between the Mirage and their 4CA mates to sell this pig to the Cairns region.

Wouldn't bank on ACMA getting to the bottom of a coffee mug, let alone sorting out a frothing-at-the-mouth follicle-challenged shock jock, a recycled chief whip and a dodgy developer with Chinese connections. The watchdog seems to be something of a toothless terrier. Just look at how they have prevaricated over Cairns community [sic] radio station, 4CCR/89.1FM or whatever they call themselves these days?
