MASSIVE QUEENSLAND DUMP TAX STARTS, AND SO DOES ILLEGAL DUMPING BY OUR FINE BUSINESS COMMUNITY

SHOULD BE SOME WAY TO TRACE WHAT DICKHEAD DUMPED THIS TRASH HERE
Anna Bligh and her "tax everything" government passed a new trash dump tax, which began on 1 December.  In many cases the cost of dumping at Queensland tips will TRIPLE!  Critics warned that, especially in the regional areas where the tax hits hardest and the benefits minuscule, the communities would see a massive increase in illegal dumping.

We're sad to report that we have first photos of an illegal trash tip along the Cook Highway, just west of the Machans Beach roundabout.

This is going to be a serious problem.  For the wankers worried about an extra $90/year on their rates for the Cultural Precinct, this problem has the potential to be a much bigger charge born by the ratepayers every year.

You bet it will result in trash being dumped anywhere. Imagine the cost to residents after another cyclone has raced through the area.

Yes Hillbilly Blog was first with this story - but remember this legislation (which does not apply to residential waste, only commercial - a point lost to the Cairns Post comments - and something which will probably not be corrected by that publication) is to encourage recycling, something we all value.

(Sorry, just had to have a shot at TCP as they picked this story up from this website)

The waste appears to be mostly cardboard which can be recycled. Obviously our local retailers or whoever are ignorant of the facts.

As an ex-Cairns- (20 years)pat, I still find the simple fact that the good people of Cairns are still listening to the unashamedly toxic dribble that is Rugnut , embarrassing! Came across your site after another ex-pat told me about Cush Over Cairns. Great blog, BTW.
Have been reading your blog for quite sometime now, and although I don't always agree with what you say, or believe, one thing resonates with Mackenzie...STICK IT TO HIM... cos someone has to keep the dickhead honest! Great job!

"Recycling" of things like cardboard doesn't occur the same way in Cairns as in the big cities. In fact to recycle things like cardboard, the merchant has to PAY the recycler to pick it up, instead of making money on the deal. It has in the past been easier and cheaper just to throw it out. With no recycling infrastructure in Cairns, or most of regional Australia, this new trash tax will serve to increase the illegal dumping, as the Hillbilly Watcher rightly points out.

Ah, no TCP did not lift the story from Hillbilly Watch. They got a tip off from a local Machans Beach resident, who was quoted in the article.
