COCHRANE FAUX-LNP TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT AND MORE CRC ELECTION FOLLIES

With Division 8 Councillor Margaret Cochrane's long-delayed announcement of her "half a loaf is better than none" Community Alliance team, the only black hand not yet showing his hand is former Mayor Kevin Byrne.  The Cochrane team has the imprimatur of LNP black hand Warren "I'm not Nuts" Entsch, and the vocal support of Cueball MacKenzie.  With the Cairns LNP in complete disarray (as is the Cairns ALP and the collapsed Cairns Greens), the conservative vote is being diced and sliced in a way that will make it difficult for anyone of them to get elected.

Her team includes Roslyn Smith, Taipans board member and Affinity Homes secretary, Beacon Lighting/Loot owner Sam Marino, and Suncorp Bank collector Rhonda Coghlan, along with the previously announced Europcar Car Rental clerk Steve Grasso

Alan Blake, included in the team at the eleventh hour, has been rumoured to be holding out to be part of the Kevin Byrne Unity team as he's been in the past.  Unity team leader, developer's friend, and last election loser Terry James has rejected Blake for the team, deeming him "unelectable, disruptive, and not a team player."  Blake, along with Sno "Max T. Brown" Bonneau are currently under investigation for corruption.

Annette Sheppard was also knocked-back for a position on the Cochrane team.  The reason for her rejection can be summed up in one word - "Meow".

Cochrane's been quoted as saying "you need to have a business background to be on council".  And yet of the proffered team, only one looks to have this background, Sam Marino who's well-liked and hard working.  How a guy renting cars for a big multinational (with limited literacy) or a deadbeat chaser for a bank qualify is unknown.  Business experience should encompass more than "would you like fries with that"?  And with Roslyn Smith's directorship made possible only by the largess of Mayor Schier's loan guarantees to the Taipans. . .this well could be the mother of all conflicts of interest.

The most ridiculous situation developing is the use of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter by the marginal fringe candidates who believe the hype that somehow they can win an election by twitting their way into office.  Primarily inhabited by the Labor/Green/Leftie fringe, the "Think Tank" has already turned into a toxic cesspool of Labor/Green attacks and insightful commentary from candidates like Jack Wilkie-Jans with this gem:

How many in Division 9 are going to take pride in the election of someone like this?

Mayoral aspirant Ian Thomas has already asked to be taken off the group as the lefties all ganged up on him and he became flummoxxed in the world of instant opinions and even more instant attacks.

It's going to be a bloodbath.  We're looking forward to it.

i can't wait as all of them would'nt know what its like to strugle to pay for every day life bills ie:Morgage, rates, insurance, electricity, Food, on a mega $50,000 a year and im not complaning on one income, and support afamily of 5 as they are all well off but they think that i should pay for there rich life style by giving them tennis courts, bike paths entertainment centres and lagoon pool all at the expense of me the rate payer or come taxpayer, and as you can see my spelling is not great as i have had to leave school at an early age as i had to get a job at 15 to support my family, but i have managered to over the years to budget and do without what most take for granted. I find it hard to understand the waste of money on things that only aspire the rich, and the poor dont get to use all of the what i call luxury things. I always thought a council was to provide services to the rate payer not to the well healed but i guese i was wrong but ill just continue on as long as i can put a roof over my kids heads and feed them im happy,.

Left vs Right politics has changed meaning. Now means educated enlightened versus cashed up angry bogans. Lefties of Cairns unite, for you are the chosen ones.

BAHAHAHAHA after the calls and emails I got tonight, not to mention the hand shakes from the Street Party our house-hold held; you've done me great favours in that most people are bored to death with the same-old, boring, career-politicians of old!

Anonymous (above) comment about "Left vs Right" in Cairns is spot-on. This isn't about a political agenda. On the right are bogans defending beer and footy. On the left are those embracing education and intellect. That's what the entertainment precinct arguments have been all about. The bogans are happy to spend the money on shit they want like a "rectangular stadium". And with the developers manipulating the bogans in a silly "save the port" argument, they're hoping to get more waterfront land for another badly designed unit block and fat wallets for them and their mates.

The bogans are on the ropes. . .

Anonymous, mate, that's a sad story and I feel for you. However, if you left school at age 15 and are now supporting a family of 5 then how is anybody else responsible unless you are claiming you were denied advice on family planning? That would also make you close to being one of the largest recipients of public funds!

Anonymous, I have no kids, but my taxes help paying for yours.

I don't use air conditioning at home , but my electricity bill helps paying for the infrastructure required so others can sit in air conditioned (dis) comfort 24/7.

My rates pay for lots of council facilities I do not use.

So please stop whinging.

Bike paths for the rich ??? Get a grip on yourself...

CBD Warrior mate yeah we bogans do like our beer and footie. But hey our missus and kids dont. I got a daughter who wants to see that ballet with all the dying swans in it and a missus who wants to see Phantom at the opera if they come to Cairns. They both want the entertainment thing to go ahead, so Im with them. And nah you wont ever see me dead or alive sitting there watching a ballet about fucken dying swans or watching a phantom at the opera. As for a big footie stadium, mate Id rather drive to Townsville with me mate Curly Joe for a weekend away from the missus and kids.

I voted for you last time Margaret as I felt you were a community person who had a busion for Cairns and our children's future. Your position on the CEP will relegate you to the bottom of my preferred candidates next election, as it is obvious you will be now withdrawing your mayoral bid due to your piss poor poll performance. You look like a nice nanna type but really are a nasty piece of work! Why not retire now you philistine!!
