Her team includes Roslyn Smith, Taipans board member and Affinity Homes secretary, Beacon Lighting/Loot owner Sam Marino, and Suncorp Bank collector Rhonda Coghlan, along with the previously announced Europcar Car Rental clerk Steve Grasso.
Alan Blake, included in the team at the eleventh hour, has been rumoured to be holding out to be part of the Kevin Byrne Unity team as he's been in the past. Unity team leader, developer's friend, and last election loser Terry James has rejected Blake for the team, deeming him "unelectable, disruptive, and not a team player." Blake, along with Sno "Max T. Brown" Bonneau are currently under investigation for corruption.
Annette Sheppard was also knocked-back for a position on the Cochrane team. The reason for her rejection can be summed up in one word - "Meow".
Cochrane's been quoted as saying "you need to have a business background to be on council". And yet of the proffered team, only one looks to have this background, Sam Marino who's well-liked and hard working. How a guy renting cars for a big multinational (with limited literacy) or a deadbeat chaser for a bank qualify is unknown. Business experience should encompass more than "would you like fries with that"? And with Roslyn Smith's directorship made possible only by the largess of Mayor Schier's loan guarantees to the Taipans. . .this well could be the mother of all conflicts of interest.
The most ridiculous situation developing is the use of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter by the marginal fringe candidates who believe the hype that somehow they can win an election by twitting their way into office. Primarily inhabited by the Labor/Green/Leftie fringe, the "Think Tank" has already turned into a toxic cesspool of Labor/Green attacks and insightful commentary from candidates like Jack Wilkie-Jans with this gem:
Mayoral aspirant Ian Thomas has already asked to be taken off the group as the lefties all ganged up on him and he became flummoxxed in the world of instant opinions and even more instant attacks.
It's going to be a bloodbath. We're looking forward to it.
