FIRST ANNOUNCED COUNCIL CANDIDATE BITES THE DUST

Passion, drive, commitment, the ability to think on your feet.

Sadly, Paul Drabble has discovered he's fallen far short of these adjectives, and has withdrawn as candidate for Cairns Regional Council Division 2.

The Kiwi discovered that the electorate has little tolerance for missteps, with Drabble hastily pushing the Jenny Glaze "Kill the Entertainment Precinct" "Kill the Mayor" "Save the Port" petition into the Piccones IGA shop while the Piccone family was away.  Drabble is employed at this IGA shop in Edmonton.

On their return, the Piccone's discovered a shitstorm of angry emails sent both to them, as well as IGA-Metcash headquarters, threatening a boycott and objecting to the politicisation of the weekly shop.  Funny that.  It was ultimately put to Drabble by his employers - you're running for council, or you like your job.  Deal or No Deal.

Drabble took the deal, and has withdrawn from the council contest.

Passion, drive, commitment, the ability to think on your feet.

The system works.

What Grabble demonstrated was political naivete something which seems common to most of the current crop of wanna be councillors. They're like babes wandering the woods, to paraphrase the larrikin, "bogan". I predict Cairns Unity with Entsch and Byrne at the helm, will perform a blitzkrieg at the coming elections.

Hello Hillbilly Bloke

Incredible - every Unity Team candidate scores a torrent of irresponsible criticism from you, in complete ignorance of the fact that some of them are well qualified people.

Each of the emerging teams will have some well-qualified wanna-be's, albeit that not all of them may be able to genuinely make that claim.

As to Ritchie Bates joining Bob Manning team - that's GOOD - as it
goes-to-show that Unity is non-political, at least in the sense that a well-qualified former Labor
Party bloke has been welcomed-aboard by a relatively conservative
crew.

You were caught well-and-truly by
the 'Alan Blake for Mayor' website,
an outright phony authored by Bryan
Law - and reported as such in several mainstream media last year.

It took an 'anonymous' blogger to draw to your attention to this well-known fake site. Hillbilly, you are pretty hopeless and, as ever, mighty loose with the facts.

Obviously, the concept of BALANCED
reporting (or balanced opinion) is completely alien to you.

Still, for all it's un-remitting and ABSOLUTE INACCURACY, your site is titilating - and, indeed, at times useful in a fashion you will never understand.

So Drabble is the first skittle to fall hey? Sure as fuck won't be the last. Curly just showed me this facebook site theyve set up. Well fuck a duck hey, there they all are holding hands and singing loulou skip to my lou on their way to a fucken teddy bear's picnic. No fucken idea what theyre up against. It's gonna be a bloodbath as the power brokers round town line them up in their sights and take em out. Who have I got in Division 2? Jesus bloody Christ, a choice between Little Audrey, Fozzy Bear and the Grim fucken Reaper himself.

Has the null and void petition been presented to Council yet? Glaze is a crazy bitch..... She really had poor Drabble by the balls! I'm amazed he kept his job!

Curly Joe said...

Chirs Forsberg, yeah but what are they "well qualified" at?? As for Ritchie Bates, he's there to be used and abused. We're already seeing him being held aloft as "proof" Unity is "apolitical".

Bob R. said...

Very crudely put bogan, but accurate. They don't know what's going to hit them. Val is going to be crucified we know that, by Unity using Richie Bates for added impact. I can see Entsch and Byrne laughing their heads off at it. Some Independents will unquestionably be returned, ie Pyne, Leu and Cooper. Any Independents who show signs of electoral success and therefore reducing Unity's control of Council will be particularly targetted. This election is all about $$$$$$$$$$$ and power, and it's going to be brutal.

Nanna Kay said...

Agreed Bob R. This is all about Byrne's grim determination to get back the reins of Council. That he's got some plans of his own is just so obvious. He has been conspiring to try and get rid of Val since the day of her unexpected election. For what?? Why has he and Mackenzie gone to these incredible lengths? There is something devious and underhand going on and they won't want anyone on the Council team with intelligence, experience PLUS backbone. Why did ALL of Byrne's Councillors desert him before the last Council election?? Did they know something? Why is there only one now standing with the Cairns Unity Team? I'm glad I am not the only one to smell the distinct stink of corruption hanging about.

Curly Joe, you are correct in pointing out the collective naivete of the long list of Council candidates. Politics with its goal of power, is a rough game and there are unconscienable despots and sociopaths who will do anything to get their backsides into public office. Remember, a sociopath is all about getting his own way!

Ive just been reading through all of these comments. Unhappily Im in Division 5 and can no longer vote for Ritcie Bates. When I think of the male abuse of Val over the years I just cannot cope with the thought of another male joining the pack of neanderthals to continue bashing her. I just cannot. It goes against everything I believe in and just makes my stomach churn. I will be voting for Yodi.

I agree with you Anonymous. Val has been a stellar example of a woman standing tall in the face of male aggression and malevolence. It was like watching a long running serial of domestic violence where the brutish male systematically and relentlessly grinds down the woman, and breaks her. No, Val didn't break down, but other women and men would have.
We have witnessed the ugliest behaviour ever perpetrated by men against a woman in public office in this city. I cannot therefore support any male who demonstrates he publicly approves of this type of verbal and psychological violence towards women.

bogan! You did it again. I fear I will be found dead as a doornail at my PC one day with Hillbilly Watch open and one of your comments right in front of me...

Neener, neener, neener bogan old chum. My new address puts me right in the middle of the lovely Linda's Division. I await with pleasure the sound of her high heels tap tap tapping prettily up my driveway on her rounds of the neighbourhood. I will of course volunteer myself as her champion.
I hope you will be very happy in Division 2 with Fozzy Bear or Little Audrey. They sound charming.

bogan said...

Neil old chum I dont reckn the lovely Linda will come tap tap tapping up your driveway mate any time soon. As it was my civic duty I sent her an email saying the worst drunken lech in Cairns lives at your address hey. I said hes maggoted all day long and sits in a dirty armchair thing watching porn movies from morning to night.
Neener neener neener.

Neil said...

You abject scoundrel, bogan! You incorrigible reprobate, you scurrilous warty little weasel of a mockery of a man. You have destroyed my dreams of meeting the woman I worship! I have had enough of your unmitigated villainy so I have sent an email off to Lord Voldemort himself of the Cairns Unity Team advising him of your deepest admiration and how much you want to work for him on election day as well as door knocking the entire Division 2 every week-end. So there! Neener neener neener. Have fun, you evil little troll!

Why do people encourage this foul mouthed idiot, bogan?

This blog is here, showing up the 'bogans' of this city, whilst being shown up by one of its own.

Hey Chris Forsberg. Remember you used to organise the political advertising for Kevin Byrne. In that context some may think you are a tad biased.

When will we be seeing you on the 7.30 Report again?

ROFL you guys. I don't think I ever laugh so hard as when I read your exchanges. Like George, I thought it was really going to kill me one day. "bogan", I suspect you are not!

Curly Joe said...

Good one Neil. Lord Voldemort sums up Manning. Well I'm off to a fundraiser for the gorgeous Val later on next month. Oh,and Neil, try and get out from thet thar chair will you?

George said...

Auntie May, I assure you I am not the one and only bogan. Im an old bloke with a few health problems so I don't get about much these days sadly. I enjoy bogans comments and the banter between him and Neil very much. Like athena above, I suspect bogan is not a village idiot. His command of English and comedy, as well as his obvious friendship with Neil would indicate to me, he is an educated man. I liken him to Billy Connolly, another comedian and one whom I enjoy immmensely.

Bogan just cracks me right up. He's a welcome respite and antidote to the more serious analysis which goes on in here. In fact in a city which doesnt laugh at itself much any more, he's a real gem. Just lighten up everyone.

Ditto George. I like the irreverent cheeky bogan and I confess I now look for his comments if I'm in need of a good laugh.

"Val has been a stellar example of a woman standing tall in the face of male aggression and malevolence."

The woman is amazing - she just carries on doing her job, totally dismissive of the filth and vitriol thrown against her - a lot of people forget that the Keith Goodwin Council copped a lot of the same crap about being feral/greenie hippy's ad infinitum from the local born to rule brigade and Cairns should never forget Bob Burgess with 'two women on council is two too many' - that's when he wasn't trying to import monkeys for coconut denutting and slagging dewogging ceremonies.

Val is a woman of unflagging energy and passion - every charity event I've performed at in Cairns since she was elected - I've seen her at - the job doesn't finish at 5 for her so she can sit on the Esplanade drinking and planning to make a killing knocking up more high rise.

Well said Destiny. We have the most energetic and fittest Mayor in my memory. It would be extremely doubtful that Manning could ever attend or be involved in as many community functions as Val.

Looking at the huge lineup of candidates in the coming Council Elections, I wonder how many of them would stand up to a bit of Mackenzie and Kings bullyboy tactics. Yeah we could end up with a "hung" Council couldnt we? Only so many Unity people one one side and so many independents on the other. So what if Manning is Mayor and needs one more vote to push through a shady development deal? Mackenzie goes into action and the weak as piss independent does what he or she is told.

You are spot on with the truth Destiny and it's about time the truth was told to the voters. Those who watch and listen to local politics know just how focused, calm and collected Mayor Val has been during her time and let's not forget she outed the Unity (LNP) team strongly at the last election. I, also, have witnessed her at local events (minority) and she shows genuine interest in wherever she is. The only other time you will see the Unity (LNP) is at free dinners/drinks and social climbing events.

With Lord Voldemort, Cueball and other members of the Cairns rat pack pitted against her, Val Schier will need all the help she can get to retain her mayoral chair. Hillbilly Watchers who subscribe to the view that she is the best option to head the next council, might consider supporting the Val-in-Time fundraiser, set down for the back bar of the Cape York Hotel on Friday February 10th (from 7:30pm) — just a few days before St Valentine’s Day. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the mayor’s election campaign fund. Tickets ($20) will be available on the door.

Three of far north Queensland’s longest-running bands — Johno’s Blues Band, Snake Gully and Mangrove Jack — will be performing sets. The lineup will also include the Raconteurs, with special guest June Graham, and singer-songwriter Chris Wighton. A few numbers from the Montgomery Brothers, who have been turning heads around town of late, will precede Johno’s Blues Band’s concert closing set.

A 2.5 metre x 0.5 metre painting of Johno’s by local artist Julie McEnerny will be auctioned during the night. The evening will also feature a display of photos shot by David Anthony during last few days of that much-missed venue, Johno’s Blues Bar.

Bus. Op. you are the first person to raise that very real possibility. It is very likely Manning becomes Mayor on the preferences of Marg and Thomas. We can predict three independent thinking Councillors get returned, ie Pyne, Leu and Cooper. I predict at this stage, 5 of the Unity Councillors will be elected. That will leave two divisions (and Im not saying which ones) which are the real wildcards. They could go either way, depending on preferences. We very well could end up with 5 Unity Councillors and 5 non Unity Councillors, so the pressure will be on in a big way on those non Unity Councillors.
Would they have any inkling of the pressures they will face? It doesn't seem they do. Will they be able to handle a bit of good old fashioned bullyboy tactics?

Fuckwit quote of the day from serial Compost poster Phil from Forest Gardens who is now blaming Council for the lack of use of the Cairns-PNG sea link. Read this deranged crap from the south side village idiot:

"What do you expect when out Local Council has driven this city into the ground. Oh, but everything
will be ok, I got a notice with my outrageous rate bill saying they were going to open all the empty
CBD shops as art displays. Just one thing I dont understand is who will pay the landlords for the
use of their shops. Must be the good old ratepayer CRC ant as they are to far in debt."

This guy seriously needs to see a shrink as his posts are getting more and more delusional!

By the way is the serial pest poster John Smith really an incarnation of the toxic and obnoxious Grey Ghost? So much for the Compost's new publishing guidelines? I can't believe that people like him steal oxygen from the rest of us?

Bus. Op. said...

There has been a sudden dramatic increase in the number of Smiths and Joneses in Cairns since The Cairns Post introduced its new guidelines, Anonymous. I reckon the old fart with the creeping alzheimer's, Grey Ghost is several of the Smiths and Joneses.
