CHALLENGERS BATTLE OVER ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT, AND IAN THOMAS STARTS THROWING MUD WITH BOTH HANDS

Cueball MacKenzie gave over some 15 minutes of his program to Bob Manning this morning, who valiantly attempted to explain his still-shifting position on the Entertainment Precinct.  It all seems a tempest in a teapot, when you realise that the project will be put to bed long before the election.

Manning's position keeps shifting because he knows really bugger all about the issues, other than the misleading "save the port" cry.  Misleading because the port isn't in any danger, and misleading because the same people pushing for dredging of the channel for more and larger cruise ships will need to park them at the port, in front of the Entertainment Precinct!

Currently there's only room for one cruise ship at the terminal, with light (meaning crane-less) loading and unloading of cargo in the balance of the area.  This loading area will obviously need to shift up the inlet a few hundred meters to allow a second cruise ship access to the cruise ship terminal.  Look at the port photo - we're protecting this "vital port area" for these pissant boats?  Even HMAS Cairns pulls its ships further up the inlet, away from town.  This is a city, not an industrial area.

The only thought-thru position on the port is coming from Cairns Ports and Mayor Schier.  That's why the EP site isn't needed for cargo - it's needed for cruise liners!  Community drum-beater, Elvis Ashwell, has claimed we could have two ships at once if we had the inlet dredged.  This is why the cruise ship terminal was enlarged and reopened by Mayor Schier.  This "critical port land" isn't for heavy industry, it's for expanding our cruise ship capabilities!

Even the odd man out, Unity Team "member" Richie Bates has already indicated he won't support Manning's position - whatever it is, we don't really know yet.

Manning grudgingly agreed that two of the options he suggested on Friday were bullshit.  Can't build at Munro Martin Park, and can't go 2 years without a theater by tearing down the old one.  He also again said we can build a satisfactory theater for $85M - $90M, the same cost as Kevin Byrne's council estimated some six years ago.  There's no inflation in Bob Manning's fairy world, apparently.  And this doesn't include a stick of parking.

After aurally pleasuring Manning, Cueball then called for a poll.  To no one's surprise, Manning won.  Keep in mind Kevin Byrne was winning these polls by huge margins prior to his shattering defeat four years ago.  John MacKenzie has perfected the corrupt "Meaningless Hillbilly Poll".

This was followed with an apoplectic Ian Thomas, who was obviously livid that he's getting hammered in the useless poll.  Thomas then started shoveling mud - saying Manning doesn't know what he's talking about, the party system is useless, Manning hasn't done his homework, and he, as a contractor, is the only one who can get the council out of signed contracts for the Entertainment Precinct.  He also again made the statement that he can "easily cut $20M to $30M out of the council budget", but claims his plans are "secret" so they can't be stolen by his competitors.

There are widespread reports that Ian Thomas is deleting discussions and cutting off critics on his webpage and Facebook site.  Ian's not coping well with the campaigning. . . and it hasn't even started yet!

I think the tragedy would be if there was a serious accident at the Civic Theatre, or an incident involving a child at the Junior Eisteddfod Hall while all these delaying tactics keep on going.
The Civic Theatre is badly in need of repairs, and the Junior Eisteddfod Hall in Greenslopes Street can no longer cater adequately for the 1000 children and more who attend it each year.

The CEP has become political symbol so rational debate is impossible. The same that criticise it actually support Campbell Newman who was responsible for staggering rate rises and big project like the tunnel to nowhere. So very selective in what irks them and when, obviously will be anti anything Val has a hand in. If anything is seriously wrong with CEP it has not been articulated or if it has, beem lost in the SCREAMING hysterical rants of Scotty and his redneck friends ie Phil the sexist, ageist, racist typical bitter hater.. Although I admire Val a great deal and would like to see her back, I feel we need someone who can unite us and as a town we are far from united. Manning has simply proven he bats for the other team, so nothing unity about him. I have lived in plenty of cities that have built entertainment centres without this hate campaign so leadership needs to be questioned. So Val is my type of Leader but clear not for all, Manning is weak and just after what he thinks will win votes, Ian Thomas is irrational. Cairns really needs a mayor that will unite us, we deserve it. However, sadly, hate will be crowned the winner.

Well said and all so true
The Council election should not be a referendum for the CEP and I'm yet to hear of any other Policies from anyone

Val is going to take Margo's fishy flip flops and belt the bejesus out of Manning and the spiv from the Gold Coast with them.

The only people backing the other two seem to be whiners, madmen or the white shoe brigade.

Most normal people love the fact council is doing something to revitalise the CBD.

I don't know what it is about Cairns. Living in paradise, but it attracts some of the dodgiest bedwetters I have ever come across.

Nothing would make me happier than Val destroying them just to send them completely bats hit crazy.

The fuckwit Scotty Boyd does not even know our local geography. His latest rant in the Compost talks about the CEP being placed on the banks of the Mugrave! Scotty, you are a shit for brains! The CEP is to be located on Trinity Inlet; the Mulgrave enters the sea south of Cairns. Along with his mate fuckwit Phil, we now have a serial pest submitting crap to the Compost on just about every topic, much of it poorly written and researched. These dipsticks love parroting Cueball's white elephant line as they have no original thoughts of their own. Fuck off back to Mission Beach Boyd, we do not want your type here and take your redneck misogynist, racist mate from Mt Sheriden with you.

I've got bad news for you buddy. Based on who is doing preference deals - Val is out of a job.

Hmm well both the lovely Val and the very lovely Linda are my kind of leaders.

Cairns is really a city of minority people who push little barrows around, getting elected and Fucking this city. The hillybilly's watching all this using an outdated political journalistic view that somehow there minority elected reps may one day succeed in actually doing something for there over Zealous minority group just feeds your inspirational attempts to hate everyone. 2 things are certian long after april 28th and Val is gone and you are pushing up daisy's at the local park, this city will continue. It may be a retirement village for the internationally failed but at least it is small enough to know who is throwing the MUD as you so eloquently put it.

I reckon Anonymous above must be maggotted. He reckons where a city of minority people. What the fuck does that mean? Are we a city of dotheads and zulus and eskimos or somethink? who does he reckon does all the hating hey? Hasnt he listened to old fire and brimstone rugnut who has been hating Val since she beat the man of his dreams? I mean Christ or mighty you give a mate a bit of support like but rugnut must be in love with Byrnsey to keep on ranting away about Val. No man would carry on like that for another man. Well I mean a hero man hey. He sounds like hes singing a never ending love song to Byrnsey. Yeah and just who has thrown all the mud hey?. You never hear Val say anything mean or nasty back do you? Which is why I like her.

Rub it in Neil, you smug superior sleaze, but we;ll see who has the last laugh. I reckon we could see a bit more rationalisation here in Cairns and Division 5 and Division 6 could be easily amalgamated into one division. Ive already sent off a suggestion to that effect to the Minister for Local Government. Linda wouldnt have any trouble in representing both divisions I reckon. I know bogan has also sent off an email suggesting amalgamation between Division 2 and Division 6 but he doesnt have a chance in hades.

Because of optional preferential system used in Queensland, directing prefrences (i.e. handing out how to vote cards) will be irrelavant to this election surely?

Amalgamation of divisions within the Cairns Regional Council? Don't make me laugh Curly Joe and bogan. What pathetic villainy from you two orange shirted, working class scoundrels to try and steal our lovely Linda away. Hah! What a joke. I laughed at your sheer stupidity and presumption. Anyway you pair of diabolical schemers and ignoramuses have Little Audrey, Fozzy Bear and that sweaty Bates fellow with his bicycle panting away all over Division 5 to vote for. Im sure you will all be very happy.

Smartarse Neil. I reckon the Minister would fall over himself to save a bit of money for the Queensland Treasury. I reckon he'll thank me for my suggestion.

Despite the absolute crap thrown at Val by cueball from the day after the election she has stood strong and got on with the job of working for Cairns. Actually I had never paid much attention to local politics but the intense and immediate hate campaign run by cueball and the local rag made me sit up and take notice. I'm right behind ya now Val as you are tireless in working for Cairns while cueball and the
creeps are working only with hate and revenge. Not family values in my book.

Neil at work said...

In response to Curly Joe's approprious comments, the Minister for Local Government will think his communique the rantings of a buffoon.

Cueball as stating today that 90% of Cairns people do not support the CEP. How can he get away with such lies. Meanwhile the misogynist candidate for Cairns kept very quiet about the CEP. Cueball has to go before he takes the wrong side with the next big project in Cairns once the CEP is under construction.

Well done fellas - keep it up - just love it. Another good laugh. Although Val has copped a daily dose of vitriol from the likes of Rugnut, and Gobsnot, you have to admire the way she has conducted herself - she has always behaved with absolute professionalism and a maturity that is rare in today's political landscape. She seems to be made of super resilient stuff!
