John MacKenzie, in now fleeting moments of lucidity on his Cairns radio show, is seeing the culmination of his divisive community role in full flight. Since the day after his soulmate and dark master Kevin Byrne lost his seat as Mayor in 2008, MacKenzie has engaged in his daily sick obsession to drive Mayor Val Schier and other "ratbags" from office. There is widespread community belief that he and his dwindling minions somehow were deluded into thinking their vitriol could accomplish this - so sick are these people. No lie is too big, no accusation is too outlandish - as Cr. Forsyth can attest. In this case, Macca along with his partner in grime Warren Entsch had their accusations slapped down in a lightning-quick ruling by the CMC, so absurd were the accusations. Others with real, serious ethics charges like Div. 5's Alan Blake and the invisible councillor Sno "Max T. Brown" Bonneau have yet to emerge from the clouds over their tenure.
In this mission he enlisted fellow sycophant Gavin King, who built a journalistic career on his deep-seated fundamental hate of, well, everyone. While King's anti-women, anti-aboriginal, and anti-Catholic views are becoming well known in the community, a review of King's columns reveals a psychologically maladjusted man, suffering from narcissistic personality disorder orders of magnitude far greater than MacKenzie. Mental health professionals around Cairns have long ago identified the obvious symptoms of this disorder in King, evident in his columns and being fostered and fed by his new Facebook and Twitter obsessions. Twitter is ready-made for narcissists, providing immediate gratification and feeding their compulsive need to feel superior to others. Even his "call me king" double-entendré use of his last name "king" feeds this sick mind.
Key symptoms of dangerous narcissists:
• Takes advantage of other people to achieve their goals
• Excessive feelings of self-importance
• Exaggeration of achievements and talents
• Preoccupied with fantasies of success and power
• Needs constant attention and admiration
• Little ability to feel empathy
• Pursues selfish goals
Yes, I agree that many politicians exhibit these personality traits. North Queensland is already plagued with one abusive narcissist, Bob Katter, who fortunately struggles to produce even one coherent thought. But sending an obviously mentally ill man like Gavin King to the Queensland Parliament in representation of Cairns is just pure folly. Cairns has its share of problems that need the intervention of state government - and we don't accomplish the basic goal of moving Cairns forward while apologising for some sick fuck we elected. Look how well we did with laughingstock Jim "What, me Worry" Turnour in federal parliament. Even his own Labor colleagues laughed when he stood up to speak.
MacKenzie switched into full campaign mode yesterday, and he's enlisting his ragtag bunch of wackjobs in what now is a daily diatribe of negativity. His mantra "call in with your comments" is so sadly ironic. Start a conversation in a direction not suitable for MacKenzie's political narrative? He cuts you off - did so yesterday, despite the fact that he routinely allows callers to use profanity with impunity. Toe the line, or you're out.
Likewise, two readers of this blog have separately reported calling to speak on behalf of the Entertainment Precinct, and after being grilled by his assistant on the phone they're told "too many calls today, call back another time". Where is the fairness required on the public airwaves?
While it's not clear yet who is appropriate to represent the voters in the Cairns state electorate (all the candidates have issues in this blog's view), it's abundantly clear that Gavin King will bring disrepute and dishonor to the mainstream of Cairns citizens.
