WHERE DOES AN LNP CANDIDATE PARK?

Wherever he wants!  Even in "No Parking" zones in front of the Civic Theatre (where a fire truck would go should the place catch fire).

Nice to see Gavin King's bully persona already in evidence around town.

Oh dear! I seem to recall in recent campaigns it was the Cairns Post which was out there and crucified certain candidates for any such misdemeanor on a daily basis!

I also saw Kirsten's bus today, legally situated at the BP on Buchan, suitably working class but possibly the worst, most bland campaign bus I have ever seen!

you fucken lire if you look at where its parked its in a parkink space, stop ya fucken lying but thats what you labor thugs do well A.

The Cairns Post won't be crucifying gobsnot for any traffic misdemeanour. Now, if it was Kirsten's bus at the front of the Civic Theatre, rugnut would be thundering indignantly away for weeks.

King is a wanker!

A clear indication of the arrogance of this man. Are there really people in this town that will vote for him?

bogan at Bentley said...

Dunno if anyone in Bentley will vote for wanKing. As for Lesina, I reckon she might get plenty of votes here if she like gives herself a new image. First off she's got to put on about oooh I reckon thirty kilos, then get some tats plastered across her cleaverage so that us blokes all look. Well we would all look anyway but when there are tats there, we can all say, "Geez I like your tats, but I cant see them all, can you show us the rest of them?" Yeah, you know what I mean hey. (But its more polite than saying "Show us your tits.") Next she has to carry at least four pizza boxes under her arm and a bag full of bottles of coke. Then Lesina has got to get three or four rugrats and get them to all walk around behind her, and one of them has to have no pants on, a dirty nose and a dirty bum which the little kid keeps on scratching. Then Lesina has to screech out, "Reeannin Rose lillee, you scratch your arse again, Im gonna eat your slice of pizza. That'll serves you right you little bitch." Now, this is a good example, Lesina, of a Bentley woman. So maybe if you smarten up your act a bit, like, you might get some extra votes out here. Just being helpful like.

I live on the Northern Beaches. I'm wishing I could move into town so I could vote against Gavin King.

What else could you expect from gavin wayne king

This so-called member of the male species should have been put down at birth, as he is now just an arrogrant misoynist wannabee. Don't forget what he said about the Catholic Church. Mind you, I do agree with those statements but not a good look when you consider how many cattle ticks vote in the Cairns electorate. So taking into account female voters and Catholics, you would have to say that Mr Fuckwit King has no chance of winning the seat of Cairns. If only he had kept his fat mouth shut he may well be poised to win this traditional Labor seat in what will be a landslide win to the LNP.

Oh dear, the comments posted on here seem to be as sad as the Hillbilly article itself. No wonder this is called the hillbilly blog, most people posting here seem to be real dumb working class losers just interested in a good laugh at someone elses expense. No other reason to live I guess. And who revel in their unfortunate roots and circumstances :-S ... Bogan in particular, are you holding yourself up as a paragon of what it is to be a "real Cairns" denizen? Sorry but you guys are the real "hillbillies" here :(

Glad I'm from Victoria/WA/ somwhere else and, like most people with vision here in this town, have colonised this place from more sophisticated regions. However, there are exceptions... But you losers, along with the trash both white and black that crowd the streets of this city can not take away the beauty that makes this region special and thus a mecca for developers and investors looking to create a special "tropical paradise" here in FNQ, even some say a "Monaco of the South Pacific". Wonder where you lot are going to end up then when rents reflect the real value of this area?

Anyway, to get back to the silly article at hand, last time I looked, this wasn't exactly New York City. How long was this vehicle even stopped here? Hard to tell from the photo if it is even parked illegally, such is the angle. If this is the best you can come up with, well, that is pretty sad. Not like it was a red cross (sorry CRESCENT) ambulance bay in Homs or anything.....

Michael Weitzmann is another blow-in telling us what we should accept for our city. Why did you leave where you came from? If the people were so wonderful there GO HOME. By the way the Wankermobile was parked there day after day to try and capture the thousands of commuters that pass that corner every day. If wanker thinks people didn't notice he was illegally parked, AGAIN he has made the mistake of treating the public with contempt.

What a pathetic tosser thinking he has the right to break the law!

Dear Anonymous (28/2/12 07:29)

So people can't move to this city from elsewhere. It is xenophobic people like yourself who are the real "Hillbillys" wanting to keep this town small and stuck in the past. I think that if you look at the population of this city now and compare it to what it was 40 years ago, you would realise that the majority who live here now are "blow ins". This city belongs to all the rate payers/residents,who are here because the love the place, not just the old hillbillys like yourself. Unlike your assertion, MOST people here (born here or here because the love the place)are warm hearted, open and welcoming and want this city to succeed and grow, just not you old style exclusive hillbillys. Hippy days are over fellas lets get real.

As in most things Michael Weitzmann, there needs to be balance. I first saw Cairns in 1974 and it was astonishingly beautiful - and unique. The biggest problem with the development that has occured is that it's turned the place into a generic small tropical tourist city. It used to have character and in tourism that is a selling point. I blew into town in 1987 and over the next few years saw the character demolished - it's sad because there are towns in Queensland that have managed to expand, create wealth and retain their character - Rockhampton and Toowoomba are good examples - very liveable cities.
New ideas are good but there should be a consensus of the citizens of a place what direction a town will take. I thought it was sad when the majority of Port Douglas residents protested against first McDonalds and then Coles moving into town as they believed it would destroy their village atmosphere - that court proceedings nullified their opinion. We have local government elections apparently to give the citizens of a town a voice in what that town is like - unfortunately it's all a charade as local government is now mainly an agency of state government used to process regulatory paperwork and cover Brisbanes arse on unpopular decisions.
That newcomers have the wherewithall to throw up a building should not be the only criteria that decides whether that building goes up - the unit developers of the recent past who knocked down buildings and upset neighbours to throw up complexes that now sit half empty, and then went broke owing locals money and negatively impacting the local economy proved that - and the locals tend to remember that those developers were inclined to donate to, and sup with, one particular political clique.
Like it or not, our democracy has universal franchise - so the hippies, the blacks, the greens, the luddites and troglodytes should all get a voice in the development of a town.
The developers in the late eighties who wanted to build a new city centre on a man made island slopped into the guts of Trinity Bay slagged their opponents as hippies and ferals until 10,000 ordinary locals converged on the Esplanade to protest and the National's Russell Cooper had to jump on a jet and fly to Cairns to reassure the town his government would not allow it to proceed in a futile attempt to win the next election.
Development is inevitable but the citizens have a right to have a say in how it happens. I'm not sure how long you've been in Cairns, but it is difficult to appreciate some of the antogonism felt towards some of our local wannabe representatives without knowing something of the history of the place. Mr MacKenzie, for whom this tribute page is maintained, and who has played a key role in opposing the entertainment precinct, led the shrieking hysterical chorus of opponents when a previous state government was willing to pay to move the hospital to more appropriate site - a site that wouldn't require evacuation when a big cyclone blew in, would be more accessable, which would allow for expansion, and which would free up valuable Esplanade ocean front land for sensible development. Now he moans about the inadequacy of the current hospital. Not surprising those with memories are sceptical about his motives.

Dear Destiny Prophet,

I thank you for your reasoned and articulate response to my comment. I, as a more recent "blow in" am not fully aquainted with all aspects of the history you have described. However, I do agree with you that it is sad that the character of the city has been lost, which is obvious when looking at any pictures of the old Cairns. That having been said, this has happend in many cities accross the country and was generally seen as "progress" from the 1970's through to the 1990's. Such cities that were left untouched by this as you describe were most likely backwaters at the time and were saved by this. Hopefully further genuine heritage building will continue to be saved right accross the country.

That all said, much of the current CBD today is shabby, with many building not contributing to any appeal for the city. We can't change the past but we can build upon what we have and hopefully creat a new, vibrant character for this city to replace the lost one you have described. But it has to be a city that respects the past from a standing position, not on its knees. A city that reflects the way people want to live today and with buildings and developments that can acommadate the needs of business and residents in the 21st century.

I agree with you that all people have a vote and say. I just would hope that they have a vision for the future that includes a future for everyone, with opportunity and growth.....because growth is in any case inevitable.

I respect that you have another point of view Destiny, and respect even more that you present your views in a clear and articulate manner without the nasty personal insults, name calling and muck that seem to characterise this blog. :-) Michael

Michael,

I don't mind the name calling etc - joking about opponents and rabble rousing have been part of democracy since Athens and Rome. It allows people to let of steam.
AND Hillbilly started this tribute page as a response to the most vicious campaign of personal denigration I've ever seen - the unremitting attack on Val Schier when she won election. Have a read of the Val Schier is a Crap Mayor Facebook page - although the references to her being alternatively a lesbian and a slut, a filthy old grey-haired black-cock sucking whore have been deleted it still makes pretty vile reading. The rants from people who've just joined in a chorus, totally ignorant of the truth send me racing back to re read Alvin Toffler - repeated claims that she continually puts her hand out for pay rises when she in fact knocked them back - sadly I don't think it's intended misinformation - just sheep who think they're wolves when they get a bit of bloodlust and join a pack to hunt down prey.

Thank you Desiny for providing Michael Weitzmann with some pertinent history of Cairns and what has been happening. Just for his information, I offer that "bogan" is not who you might think but rather a professional who has found his own way of expressing his frustration with what is happening in Cairns. Take his comments with a good grain of salt, Michael W. and just enjoy his humour. For the record, nothing bogan has said matches up with the viciousness that both Mackenzie and King have attacked Val Schier. Destiny again has provided you with some examples. Welcome to Cairns Michael W. and I look forward to your posts on HBW!

Odd, I thought everyone would have realised "bogan" wasn't what he made himself out to be. For the education of Michael Weitzmann, "bogan" is like the Dicky Nee character of Hey Hey Its Saturday. He suddenly just pops up and makes these outrageous and funny comments. He adds a welcome break to the sometimes very grave issues raised in Hillbilly Watch.
He posts in other local blogs and has become something of a cult figure in the blogosphere. He has given me some of the best laughs on the internet yet.

Back to the topic of GK's arrogant vehicle/sign locations. Sat(3/3), I have had to drive past rusty's a number of times this morning. Guess who's secured the number 1 parking spot at the markets for advertising... I guess those people who are driving around the block and doing (illegal) u-turns looking for a park wont mind. I'm sure he pissed off quite a few people this morning. Keep up the good work Gav.

King has never bothered with the rights of others. He says what he wants to and does what he wants to but is very quick to condemn others for doing the same. My guess is he isn't going to go down well with his LNP colleagues who will soon tire of his self-serving ways and complete lack of ethics.
