So today the LNP trotted out ex-Cairns mayor Kevin "Black Hand" Byrne in a misguided attempt to prop up Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King with the voters. Byrne, who's privately pushed Radio 4CA to replace Cueball MacKenzie with the slightly more literate King, today was trotted out in some bizarre press conference about China and what Byrne and King called "Cairns' failed China policy".
When did Cairns require a foreign policy?
While Mayor, Byrne led several business junkets to China which did bugger all to generate any business relationship between China and Cairns. The Chinese sister-city, Zhanjiang, had a Cairns landscaping designer assist with the design of a public park there - which was subsequently torn out for a unit project. That was it. Even prior to the GFC, Byrne was completely unsuccessful at getting any Chinese commercial air service.
Gavin King today proposed, with Byrne's arm fully extended into his rectum, that a "high level committee" be formed to manage the Chinese relationship. With Kevin Rudd firmly ensconced on the back bench, the next two foreign policy experts tapped by King are the general manager of the Shangri-La hotel, and the owner of a tired and overpriced Cairns Chinese restaurant. High level committee? Well, at least they've figured out these pollies can be manipulated to fill THEIR pockets. On the other hand, Byrne claims to have the title of "Corporate Affairs Manager" for US petroleum company Interoil in PNG. There is however not a word of Byrne on any of Interoil's website. What's the pidgin word for "bagman"? There are many that have opined Byrne has seemed to be in hiding since his two partners at now bankrupt Capital Globe were whacked while on a business trip.
Making China an issue for Gavin King seems frankly bizarre, given his anti-Chinese comments which include harsh criticism of Kevin Byrne's China junketing while Mayor! Some of King's published comments:
Cairns Post - 9 August 2008
Are the Tibetans and the Dali Lama,
King's "freaks" or his "weirdos"??
Cairns Post - 9 February 2009
Nobody wants seafood out of the repulsive Chinese ocean - but from the much less repulsive and happy Aussie ocean??
Cairns Post - 5 July 2008
Kevin Byrne's investment in schmoozing with the commies up north had one positive trade benefit - the Cairns Post now runs dozens of ads every day for the large Chinese whore contingent. These girls get routinely refreshed by the Sydney-based Chinese pimps who run a lucrative business selling Aussie "education" visas that enable them to make this one stop on the Chinese whore train. Good job, Byrnsey! Along with cheap Chinese TV's, clothes, and virtually every other consumer product you've managed to even put True-Blue Aussie whores out of business!
