REAL REASON FOR CAMPBELL NEWMAN VISIT TO CAIRNS

Campbell Newman showed up in Cairns on Wednesday with virtually no notice to the local members, supposedly to announce a tourism conference in Cairns.

Sometime in June.

This has been the tipoff for many in the media to wonder why the Premier would travel to Cairns on a commercial flight to announce a conference that is barely a proposal, with no date even selected.  Not very media savvy.

And after the hastily called media conference, Newman disappeared with Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King in tow.

We're now reliably informed that the primary reason for Newman's visit was his in person message to King to SHUT THE FUCK UP.  The dressing-down was given to King in what a worker in an adjacent room described as "a roar".  Newman has been getting disturbing reports of King's attempts at "setting policy" for the LNP in Cairns with no consultation by him with the Premier's office.  Newman had been planning to discuss these issues at King's swearing in - which hasn't happened because he's holed up waiting for Leah to birth a child.

And then Newman's office started getting questions from the Courier-Mail that the Premier's staff have traced back to deliberate leaks by Gavin King to his mates in the Murdoch press.  King's supposedly been giving them "insider tips" that have blindsided and undercut the Premier.  Hence the emergency visit to Cairns, for Can Do to issue what was said to be "his first and last warning" to Gavin King about his big mouth.  The cover being this bullshit announcement for a tourism conference that doesn't even have a date!

Can't say we didn't warn you. . . .

Here's another question while we're at it.  Cairns was told that MP for Barron River Michael Trout was "perfect" to represent Cairns in tourism.  Long history in FNQ tourism, yadda yadda yadda.  The Newman goes and picks Gavin King to be the junior minister for tourism, a guy that no one in LNP leadership trusts.  Not the guy who's supposed to be the expert, but the guy who's got zero experience in tourism.

Baffling?  MAYBE NOT.

This doesn't bode well for Cairns at all. We've got a Tourism Minister from the Gold Coast, and her assistant minister that doesn't have the support of the LNP leadership. Along with that we've got the Barron River Trout, who's so-called tourism experience has been ignored for reason not being shared with the electorate, and he instead is now the "minister for neighbourhood watch".

I'm starting to think FNQ is getting dissed not because of where we are, but because of the ignoramuses we're putting up to represent us!

It's becoming more clear that Newman doesn't care about the FNQ seats much. Too many KAP and Labor seats in the area to be pouring much money. Those down in Brisbane still see this as a backwater and judging by the elected representatives, who could blame them?

Verrrrrry interesting Mr Hillbilly. I thought something was a wee tad suspicious about Newman's Transport Minister resigning so quickly. He was way too agreeable about what a norty boy he was. So now to gobsnot, the King of Cairns. King has given us plenty of evidence he is a vindictive, vengeful sort, so I would say Newman has made a nasty, ratlike enemy who will be using his media mates to embarrass Newman at every opportunity. The coming years look to be loads of fun.

Newman was probably also in town to correct the wrong information Cristafulli the LocaL Government Minister dished out to Val and the deputation of Cairns people who met with him in Brisbane.

Campbell is dying to grab back the promised funds for the Entertainment Precinct so he can boost his financial treasure chest in Brisbane. Expect to see For Sale signs soon down on the waterfront as well. Also I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for the inlet to be dredged (for whatever reason) in the near future either. Cairns has been well and truly shafted.

He might be dispensing discipline with military zeal, but Major Can Do must already be despairing of his troops. With a squad of unknown quantities scattered around the state, his work will assuredly be cut out. Already a police minister has been given his marching orders. And now our own Corporal King has been reportedly reprimanded and in danger of losing his stripes. Come back Anna and co — all is forgiven (well, quite a lot anyway).

I agree with you anonyous above. Cairns has been hoodwinked out of the biggest amount of funding ever given out to us in recent times. We are being shafted again by sleazy, slimy, cunning political rats only interested in their own careers, and not the people of Cairns and FNQ. I always knew there would be more interference with the Entertainment Precinct. And it isn't over yet. It won't be until the State funds are back in Brisbane, the land in question has been sold to developers, and the new focus of hate put onto the Gillard Federal Government. My prediction is the mongrels opposing the Precinct will be trying to get their greasy paws on the Federal funds for the precinct. Wait and see. There will be more "developments".

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Cairns is being shafted, big time.

Listening to the Mackenzie show, it is just terrifying the amount of power King thinks he has. He seems to believe he has the powers to grant all sorts of things. He hasn't! Newman is correct in boring it fair up him and letting him know his powers are limited.

Man Hillbilly, You can write some bullshit, but hey its good for a laugh and i can rely on this site for that.

athena said...

In fact, there may well be more "developments" already on the drawing board so to speak....
In the online issue of the Port Douglas newspaper, The Newsport, Warren Entsch has indicated support for the plans of David Marriner the owner of Sheraton Mirage. He has plans to develop an "arts and exposition centre" at the Mirage. Entsch writes glowingly of how Marriner transformed some old theatres in Melbourne. The trouble is, Entsch writes, is that there is no FUNDING coming from the State and Federal Goverments. Is this where our ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT monies is going to go???

Gobsnot has delusions are grandeur! He will not be re-elected if he is not forced to resign in the meantime. Newman has no issues with by elections with such a massive majority.

There is no bullshit in this story from HBW. Cairns is well and truly getting sharfted. It was reported that Major Cando told us that the the whole $157million for the CEP had been withdrawn and we were only getting $40million to dredge the Inlet. HBW, I feel as though I have been raped!!! I feel that Cairns has been raped well and truly. I am sure this will receive plenty of coverage when the Cairns Post actually reports actually Major Cando said. I am sure he is also feels that he has been raped as well. My question is WHO in our great city came up with the request to dredge and widen our Channel for $40million dollars. There has not been one bit of consultation on this issue. The natives were not consulted. Ports North were not consulted. TTNQ were not consulted. Advance Cairns was not consulted. The Chamber of Commerce was not consulted. Who's idea was it? No one I know is accepting responsibilty for this. I suspect that Warren Stench the LNP Unity Team Commander together with General Byrne the LNP Unity Consultant may have something to do with it. HBW can we find anyone in Cairns who wants the Cannel work carried out? Charlie.

Anonymous above, gobsnot will continue to be elected if KAP stand a candidate. Look at the voting figures for Cairns. If both KAP and the ALP run candidates, then in a first past the post election, gobsnot will come home again. The only way to defeat gobsnot is for both the ALP and KAP to exchange preferences and that isn't going to happen. gobsnot is therefore guaranteed his seat for the next election and possibly the one after no matter what he does. Get used to it. There is nothing we can do to change it but wait. With such a huge majority, Newman will find his members starting to brawl amongst themselves, and the voters will start to wake up to the fact that by having nothing to bargain with because there is no opposition, they have effectively disempowered themselves. All we are able to do is to wait and give it time.

Down the track, when the real intent of Campbell Newman's government is common knowledge to all, as will King's involvement in this farce, we will realise the great opportunity Cairns had that was lost because of these fools. Once the federal funding is channelled elsewhere due to the breech of agreement and the dredging is overruled by Canberra on environmental grounds, Cairns will end up with absolutely nothing. Well done Gav!

King was probably too bloody stupid to realise that Newman doesn't need him. Newman has the biggest majority probably in Australian history and therefore cannot be defeated for many years to come. He's not going to worry about losing a few members here and there. King is going to have to learn to shut his huge gob, do as he is told and jump as high as he is told. He will be nothing but an expendable puppet. I heard him after the electon on the Mackenzie show, gloating and full of pride. Well hopefully Newman has rammed home how UNIMPORTANT he really is.
With such a huge majority too, Newman won't be worried about bruised feelings from any of his party members. He can be as tyrannical as he likes and he is already demonstrating that. King is getting what he so richly deserves - a good boot up the arse. I predict he will get a good many more in the coming years.

Charlie, read the Bill Cummings Report of February 2012 Ref: J2517 which was provided to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Report is called SOME ISSUES RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF THE PROPOSED CAIRNS ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT.
In it, Cummings clearly writes.."If Cairns is to achieve objectives of becoming a supply base for more mines and centres to the Far North....."
Whose "objectives" are these? Who commissioned the report?
His report talks about the potential shipping and associated business activities of expanding the Cairns Port, and comparing that economic value with the economic value of "the theatre".
He also states, "It can be EXPECTED that cruise ship visitations will increase strongly, especially if the channel is deepened."

yeh i do, just to piss you Labor pricks off.

King is going to have a massive fall back to earth. I'm interested to see if he will actually fall into line. He must be realising how expendable he is and the inevitable fact that the FNQ doesn't matter to southern parties. So will he stand up and fight for Cairns inside the LNP? Will he split and go independant or will he roll over and take it, along with Cairns voters? I'm tipping the latter.

Anonymous said...

Can anybody please tell me what Bill Cummings claim to fame is?

Anonymous said...

LNP have at least 20 years in power based on their current massive majority. Hard times ahead for FNQ as we will get the crumbs. Townsville will flourish.

Bill Cummings is a long standing member of the Country Party/National Party. A long time ago the Country Party wanted him to challenge Ray Jones in the seat of Cairns but he didn't have the guts. The Cummings Report in February is load of Bullshit. On information supplied by Masthead Manning on port activities they put that report together. Did you see either Cummings or Manning actually present the Report to anyone. The didn't because it was bullshit. They used poor silly Barry Neal to release it on TV. We have never had anywhere near the amount of explosives in our port that would be required to do the amount of damage that Cummings
reckon can be done. Explosives for New Guinea are not sourced from Cairns they come from Newcastle direct to PNG. On shipping there is no truth in the Cummings statement that if you build the Channel the ships will come. You need to neogitate with the shipping companies to get their ships here just like you have to neogatite with the airlines to get planes here. We are not doing too good at getting the planes here so how can Cummings say build it and they will come. Even if we do deepen and widen the Channel the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth will still have to anchor off Yorkeys. We really get feed some BULLSHIT by the LNP Unity Team and its supporters like Cueball. Charlie

Nah you don't piss me off anonymous. You just remind me why we must have Centrelink and welfare.

Thanks for the comments, charlie. I guess the "report" was a collarobation between Mannings and Cummings. This report however probably prompted Newmans announcement of the $40 million for "dredging" the inlet. It will be interesting to see if it does eventuate, or it is all bullshit.

Anonymous said...

so you labor dead shits would rather spend $150 mill to satisfy your over paid fucken lifes at the expence of the Cairns rate payers. Where havining the inlet dredged will boost all the business in cairns, you mob of Labor thugs you don't have a say in the matter, thank fuck as we have had a gutt full of your corrupt ways.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info on cummings ,alarm bells are starting to ring in cairns as townsville is looking like they will get the lot , no thanks to people like rugnut and his fool followers like anonymous 18.22 who seems to know all about welfare

Just read in todays Cairns Post where Warren Entsch is talking about a site for the Entertainment Precinct "with a hotel beside it". Yeah we can guess whose hotel it is going to be. The brazen audacity of him!

Dina said...

I would be pretty well certain that Cummings "report" (which is badly flawed) was presented to Newman as "evidence" of why the Inlet should be dredged. There was absolutely no mention of environmental concerns from dredging in the report. Newman has subsequently stated he will only give Cairns $40 million of the Precinct monies for "dredging". This means the rest is returned to Brisbane and the Federal Government funding which has strings attached, will have to be returned. We have been well and truly shafted out of over $100 million.

Curly Joe said...

You're correct Dina. We've been shafted out of the bloody lot. Everything. Those rednecks, dickheads, fuckwits who screamed about it, have lost us the entire lot. Manning and Cochrane are telling huge lies about building less costly arts theatres if elected. There is no fucking money left for it which those slimey pricks know damn well. The region has been shafted big time by some conniving political dingoes.

Anonymous said...

BOO HOO cry as much as you like you mob off losers, the reason theres no money is because that fat arse mole in Canberra has handed it out to you mob off self centred fuckwits that want tennis courts and bike tracks and fucken arts theatres at the expence of the low income earner that will never use these things that have sent us broke, good on ya.

King is certainly superfluous to Newman's needs, his having the biggest majority ever in a Queensland Parliament. Added to that is the knowledge that Cairns can easily change hands again at the next election. The majority of voters in Cairns did not vote for King and his election is an aberration in a traditional Labor seat. Newman would not be wasting time nor money on him, nor should it be acknowledged, the Electorate of Cairns. With too large a majority and guaranteed a long time in office, the Newman Government can dismiss which electorates they want to, and openly patronise those they want to. We can therefore expect only a few crumbs to be flung our way in the next few years and King will be a "one term" MP. King is naive in the operations of government, as his "guarantees" that Cairns Base Hospital would receive Tier 1 Funding, have clearly revealed. He revealed further naivete when on the Mackenzie Show after his election, full of self-importance. No doubt Newman has let him know how little he is worth.

Ron again said...

I guess a good haranguing session from Newman has wiped the smile off King Gobsnot's cakehole. You're right Neil. King is worthless and easily expendable. Newman won't be worried if the people of Cairns get so pissed off with getting nothing that they vote Labor next time.

My series "Cush over Cairns" prophesized the loss of the Entertainment Precinct through political skulduggery, and the subsequent sale of the seafront land upon which the complex was to have been built, to Chinese developers. "Cush" exposes the corruption which public office can entail. Manning is off to an excellent start as the prototype to a "Cush" type character. Now will Munro Martyn Park and Mt Whitfield be safe, or will he flog those off too, to foreign developers?

Diana said...

Ummm Terry Vance, let us all just hope to God your series "Cush" doesn't parallel too closely the next few years of the Cairns Regional Council. OK? (Incidentally how about you write a bit more regularly on your blog?)
