When questioned by a caller who dislikes the large numbers of "street people" in Cairns "from the communities" (MacKenzie code for the Aboriginal communities in the Cape), Cochrane said:
"The problem is these people come to Cairns, get a taste of the good life, and refuse to go back".
I view this comment as a "window into the soul" of this mayoral hopeful, and am disgusted on so many levels I have been gobsmacked all day.
After all, why would anyone want to go back to their hell holes on the Cape after living the "good life" on the streets in Munro Martin Park?
Not only can we not have a mayor with these deep-seated feelings towards our indigenous minority group, I'm not so keen on even having her around town.
I'm think I'm going to be sick now. . . .
