WHO'S REPRESENTING CAIRNS? LNP CONTINUES TO RAPE MONEY FROM FNQ, ONLY DISSENTING VOICE RICHIE BATES - WHY IS GASBAG GAVIN KING TURNED INTO CAMPBELL NEWMAN'S BOOTLICKER?

As warned by this blog and others, "Can-do" Newman, Premier of Brisbane, is raping Far North Queensland of previously promised projects with the claim that "they were unfunded promises".  "Unfunded promises", the election trick of both political parties.

So far, money stripped from Cairns by LNP includes:

The LNP moved swiftly to promise 100 new Police for the Gold Coast.  Cairns got dissed with a DIY, "talk to Trouty, he's organising neighbourhood watch groups".  Tea time with Trouty.  And the usual one-time "blitz" that the crims use as a holiday weekend off.  So much for the LNP pronouncements on crime.  Cairns dudded again.

Newman announced a $2 BILLION dollar project to enhance the Brisbane waterfront, move government workers into new posh buildings, boardwalks, restaurants, and bridges for the river, a project he's pushed so quickly they didn't even have a drawing to show reporters!  While tourists stumble around on broken footpaths in Cairns.  Talk about "unfunded promises", this one is so big Newman hid it from the public before the election!

In all of this, Member for MacKenzie Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King has responded: "The project is off the cards and won't be considered for funding until at least next year".

Gavin King.  Fucking apologist for Campbell Newman.  What happened to "fighting for Cairns future", Mr. Big Mouth?   What happened to "People (of Cairns) need action, they need to be listened to".

All words from King's maiden speech to Parliament.  All more goddamned lies.  Gavin King.  The Member for Bootlick.

And another secret already reported by Gavin King to some in town - forget the $40 Million for dredging the inlet.  After the Gladstone dredging screwups, Cairns won't be dredged by Newman and the LNP any time soon.  "If the feds want more space for HMAS Cairns, they can pay for it".

So who's the only one in Cairns with the cajones to step up and call them on it?  Richie Bates, Unity Team member for Division 5.  Bates has called on King and the LNP to fund the CBD master plan as promised.  Bates refused to lay down for the gutting of the Entertainment Precinct.  Even Screwdriver Manning has kept quiet on the LNP Rape of Cairns, apparently believing the old-boy's adage "if rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it".

Thanks Bob, and the Unity Team, for all your support of Cairns. Wankers.

Spot on the money.

The only chance of keeping the CEP money is to go ahead with the original plan and hold the State Govt to their signed agreements.

Anything else will allow them to pull the funding.

Last chance.

As for King, he has no power in the Government. He is in fact the least powerful State Member of Parliament Cairns has ever had. King is a SUPERNUMERARY! All public servants know what this means. You're surplus to requirements. You are of no importance. Newman doesn't need any of the FNQ seats to govern. He can easily afford to lose up to 30 seats next election and still govern with a comfortable majority.
So - Cairns has a very weak State Member, of little use and importance to the Premier. The Federal Member is only serving one last term to top up his Parliamentary super. He does't give a stuff because he won't have to face the voters next Federal Election. Lastly, we have a Mayor, also in for only one term who won't be facing the voters either, so it won't matter if he stuffs up. The city has in fact the weakest political representation and "power" in my memory. Bates is doing well to speak up. We will need real leadership during this power vacuum and if Bates can fill the void, then good luck to him.

You're spot on, ruby. A huge power vacuum has opened up with the Cairns region having the weakest representation in Local, State and Federal spheres in decades. Entsch and Manning are only in there for one term then pissing off somewhere for comfortable retirements, and King is, as you said, highly expendable and worthless to Newman. I reckon Bates and Pyne can step up to the challenge.

Yes HBW 4 more years of nothing for Cairns Tax payers.
What a shambles.
I was talking with a Chineese restraunte owner last week and he said most of the Chineese tourists we have turning up in Cairns are at the end of their trip so are not spending up as promised by King Gavin.
All we need now is a Tsunami or another airline strike and its game set and match for this tropical paradise:-(

Good God!!!

Imagine the precarious state of representation Cairns would have had if Kirsten Lesina had prevailed at the box!!!

The new member for Cairns is morphing into the former member for Cairns, the honorable Gavin Boyle !!

CBD Tarzan, don't worry about a Tsunimi or airline strike, worry about a major oil or chemical spill, which becomes more likely with the increase in coastal shipping and the cavalier attitude of the Can Do government.

Anonymous, It would be no different, but at least Lesina wouldn't have to front up and tell fibs. She'd just blame Brisbane. King doesn't have that luxury so has to pretend he thinks Brisbane is acting in the best interests of Cairns when it clearly isn't and rarely does. The only person standing up for FNQ at the moment in Brisbane is Curtis Pitt.

thanks to that fool mackenzie and his mate the missing member for cairns , make no mistake about it we are truly in trouble like never before

If Newman didn't have the huge majority that he has, and there was a decent sized opposition, whoever represented Cairns might have some sway in Brisbane. A political party having such a huge majority does not make for good governance.

Lesina and King would both be equally impotent with the current Government because of Newman's unprecedented majority. Newman doesn't have to give a shit about Cairns, Barron River Mulgrave or Cook because he doesn't need them to keep government.

Good to see Bates stepping up and taking the baton for Cairns. I agree with rubys observations that a power vacuum has widened up with an impotent State Member and two old boyos hanging out for a comfy $$$ retirement. We are going to need a voice to speak up for us and if Bates can do that, then good for him.

Christ, you lot are only looking at one dimension of the new political reality in the Far North. Of course King, Trout etc don't matter to Newman, not because he "doesn't need them" as you all so naively put it, but because of Katter's Party, they are all guaranteed to be returned next election for fucks sake. Newman can give FNQ a huge kick up the arse knowing that it won't have any impact on his Government. All you lot can do for the next 6 to 9 years is get used to King, Trout etc all being useless members and suck it up. Yeah great to see Richie Bates speaking out, but he may as well have given a good fart for all the good it is going to do Cairns. Face it everyone, we're rooted for the next 6 to 9 years.

Must you always be so crude, jim-bob jnr? We're all well aware of the new political reality here in the Far North. Our LNP members of parliament are of no value whether Katters Party guarantee their seats for them next election, or not. Manning is also of no value to Newman. He doesn't need an LNP Mayor in the Far North to carry the flag for him. We might be thrown a few measly crumbs in the next six years if we're lucky, but we don't have to take it lying down with our legs up in the air!! Give Richie Bates some credit, he and Curtis Pitt are all we have to counter the Newman government's dictatorship.

Interesting point there, jim-bob jnr. Katter's Australia Party is the LNP's bulwark against the Labor Party. Newman is in an unprecedented unassailable position isn't he? He has a huge majority in Parliament, a token opposition party, the media staunchly onside, and a political party built around the image of a populist "maverick" to willingly act as a bulwark against political erosion. I wonder if many people are yet aware just how secure and politically inviolable Newman is? It is very sobering to think of so much power vested in one person and one political party.

Neil said...

Thanks Liz. We all needed to know that. I agree, Newman is in an unassailable position as Premier for as long as he likes, barring a challenge from his own party. It's more than a sobering thought, it's bloody frightening when you think no other Premier has ever had such guaranteed tenure of office and so much untramelled power. Terrifying.

Neil -even more terrifying is when Tony Abbot becomes PM and we see the same thing happening at the Federal level. Be afraid!

Yeah Strangled lady ...
Let us all live on borrowed money.
Let's let the next generation pay it off.
Party on babe ...

I wouldnt worry Spangled Lady. I reckon Turnbull will make his move a few months before the election and toss Toady W'Abbott.

Anonymous said...

I can't see that happening anon 23.44 -Turnbull does not have Party support but we can only hope! I could live with Turnbull in control -at least he has a brain. I remember when Abbott was Minister for Ed in Howard's Govt and he had to have a public servant with him at every function to stop him from putting his foot in mouth (I was there)and I also recall the cuts he made to Health when he had that Portfolio -he is a wrecker.
