GAVIN KING SHOWS HE DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT HOW BROKEN CAIRNS TOURISM IS

Member for MacKenzie Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King posted this message on his Facebook site tonight:

(NOTE:  KING HAS PULLED DOWN THIS POST, LIKELY AT THE ORDERS OF THE LNP SOCIAL MEDIA DEPT)

Once again, King has shown his profound ignorance at the depth of problems facing Cairns tourism.  The long taxi queues are a "feature" of an arrival into Cairns because the LNP Government continues to protect the taxi monopoly at the Cairns airport.  Taxi drivers who then bag the city to the tourists on their ride into town!

Other airports around the world have multiple transit operations - shared van pools, buses, trains, and other solutions.  Most tourists in Cairns are sadly gouged the moment they arrive by this LNP protected monopoly.

It costs the average tourist $15 just to get out of the airport to Sheridan Street!  Tourists staying in the CBD are up for a $30-$35 cab ride, when a shared van service should be available at half the cost or less.  And blocking the Sunbus company from providing service - a service backpackers around the world utilise, sees this subset of travellers financially raped just to get to their hostels.

Cairns is increasingly shunned by tourists due to its reputation for being a high-cost, low value destination.  King just doesn't have a clue.  And if you post to his Facebook page a criticism, it gets removed and you get banned.  Good work, Gavin!  You've put your ignorance on display for all of Cairns, again.

It's absolutely disgusting. In the USA, people are allowed to hire themselves and their cars out without being an official taxi service. Other international airports offer a free bus shuttle into the city. Agreed, King doesn't have a fucken clue. Dickhead.

Fuck have we been screwed in this city, we have a complete useless member that has done jack shit for our city and belongs to a party thats so far has taken away money that was pledged by the Labor party to boost our city and all this LNP is doing is sacking people, what a complete useless prick Gavin King is.

Removed by Gavin is not unusual although I did earn the distinction of being removed by both Gavin and Lesina from all social mejia at the last election! Howver, I was removed by an LNP facebook 'friend' today for posting this from right wingnut lovething Andrew Bolt:

Get off his back! We've had 104 years of Labor rubbish culminating in the Dear Lady Desley who did stuff all and is now sitting back enjoying the superannuation that the rest of us can only dream about. Gavin will be the best thing that Cairns has ever had.

The government collusion with Cairns Taxis (formerly Black & White) is well known. It's a shame King has no real tourism experience, which would enable him to see the structural impediments to Cairns as a tourism destination.

I would like to know what is happening with the dredge the inlet report.Does it say maybe that like the rate payers at the end of Reed rd we the rate payers in general will have to share part of the burden of constant dredging. It all seems a little odd that the report released some time ago is being stifled.

Anonymous said...

What has Gavin King actually done so far??? Please tell me. We have all seen the media releases and crap that dribbles from his mouth. CBD~ this is what we can do now...Ok Gavin what is it again and wheer is teh dollars for it?
Still talking and hang on we are still talking again. Oh you got money that was already accounted for as recurrent for the homeless thankfully that other dribbling idiot didnt take that money to his brisbane mates as well. Oh and that great school holiday program what happened to that, I heard you took all the credit yet didnt have anything to do with it and screwed the people who ran it. Tell us Gavin what have you actually done that wsnt the result of the old government or others hard work? What is your gameplan lie, lie, lie job thieve and feltch from Newmans arse or are you to stand up for those who make you look good.

Anonymous said...

yea yk tell that to all the people who have and are about to lose their jobs, they can not have been doing too much wrong if they were in for 104 years

Anonymous, re INLET DREDGING...there was a small item featuring Mackenzie and "Cruise Liner supporter" Elvis Ashwell on tonights Channel 7 local news. According to the skewed slant Mackenzie put on it, the environmental report "has been released" ( who to??) and "dredging of the inlet may not proceed because of Newman's cutbacks." ???????!!!!!
Could it be that the fuckwits have found out WHY wholescale dredging ceased back in the 1980s, like environmental factors plus the sheer cost of it???
Round and round and round we go in this city, driven by dickheads - back to the 1980s on dredging the inlet - back to 1994 on the need for a new performing arts theatre - back to the 1990s on what to do with the CBD. Round and round in circles screaming all the way.

YK, what utter nonsense you write. 104 years of Labor? What an outrageous lie. As for Desley, let's see...she obtained the funding for the revamped Esplanade, during her term in office, the Cairns College of TAFE greatly expanded, several schools were built, the Base Hospital expanded, including the new Liz Plummer Oncology Centre. Desley also secured funding for the MacCormack Building in the CBD, the police station, the Court House. Also she secured funding for the community health centres.
These are just some of the things Desley achieved. You can bet your bottom dollar Gavin King, the surplus politician Newman doesn't need, won't be able to achieve anywhere near as much. In fact, King has already LOST us $100 million, monies which Desley of course, helped us to get.

Anonymous said...

Smokers outside the Hospital and Taxi Wait time at the Airport. These are the only 2 things that come to mind that King has commented on of any significance. What will be next?

Thanks Ruby,I heard mackenzie had a spot on the telly but I used to get headaches and dry reach every time I saw that head so I don't watch commercial tv anymore in case I see him. It is ironic isn't it.All those hysterical things that were wrong with Cairns that could only be improved with a new council or state government aren't that important anymore. It proved that a lot of voters believe in tooth fairies .

All I can say, Gavin, you are the assistant minister for tourism, as McKenzie never tires of telling us. So if there is a problem with taxis or public transport from Cairns airport, fucking well fix it instead of moaning about it. That's your job. How about extending Lake street and running a cheap shuttle bus service ? Another project that has been talked about for years.

Dean said...

How stupid can an assistant tourism minister be that be posts a problem about his own home town without realising it's actually HIS OWN responsibility to do something about it!

Was he posting it there so somebody in charge would do something about it?? He's in bloody charge, he should post the picture and say what he's going to do about it, not chuckle about it.

Imagine if you spent all day at work posting tidbits online about how you're not doing your job.

Imagine a salesperson taking photos of all the people in the store with puzzled looks. The posting it saying "I wonder who will look after all these customers? lol"

While we're on the subject of a bus shuttle service to the airport, King, you fuckwit, how about organising a shuttle service to pick up the cruise liner passengers at Yorkeys Knob?? You're not gonna DREDGE the fucken inlet, which is what we all tried to tell you over and over. How many millions did that report cost hey, only because you and that imbecile Mackenzie couldn't be bothered looking at past decisions and WHY they were made. That's MORE money you have cost us taxpayers, you know nothing, wanker of a bastard. So get off your arse, do something about erecting a pontoon at Yorkeys Knob, put up a tourist kiosk, and arrange for a shuttle bus or two to be there when the cruise ships come in. After all, its' YOUR JOB, arsehole, to provide these solutions. Um, sorry ladies for the swearing, ruby and so on, but Im bloody angry hey.

ruby said...

Anonymous 06.20, I try not to watch local news either, because of my loathing of Mackenzie. However, I overheard the words "Environmental report into dredging" so I raced to the TV and watched. Yeah, my stomach turned over as well. What a perverted twist Mackenzie put to the story, spruiking that "dredging won't go ahead because of Newman's cutbacks." Sheeeeeeesh. Once again, not telling the truth.

JETHRO said...

jim-bob, we're all bloody angry mate. Angry as all hell that imbeciles and morons such as King, Manning and their mouthpiece Mackenzie are dragging the city round and round in circles costing us millions and millions of government funding. However try and keep the bad language out of your posts, mate.

The taxi service here in Cairns isn't very good at all. I don't know how many times I have come out of seeing a specialist, and had to wait a very long time, phoning several times, for a cab to take me home. Often this has happened when I am unwell and needing to get home fast.

Anonymous said...

Funny isn't it, how King could dish out the criticism and personal abuse to Val, Desley and Anna. Now he's in the hot seat and has lost us over a hundred million dollars plus the cost of this environmental report, he can't cop any criticism himself. SOOK! I remember "bogan's" ditty about King very well."Sook, sook, sookie
Neener neener neen
Sook, sook, sookie"

T.Asquith said...

Is someone able to confirm that Sunbus is "blocked" from providing an airport service, or is it simply a decision by the company based on economic grounds? If the former, an explanation is required.

Anonymous said...

I thought there was a bus service you could book at the Airport near the luggage area?

I think the Taxi service is pretty good in Cairns.

What's the actual story?

There isn't the consistency of passengers to warrant a sunbus route is diverted there, surely?

Al said...

No wonder Thailand, Bali and other SE Asian destinations are so attractive to would-be-tourists in Southern capitals when compared to Cairns. High $AUD, cheap fares, and great holiday packages all combine to make Cairns look like the poor value it is. You would think the penny would drop with our civic and tourism leaders, and that quick economic transport to/from the airport would be a great first place to start.

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe how bad LNP and find myself asking how much difference can a state government make? King is a nobody, getting paid for blabbing on re-inventing the wheel. Doubt Lesina would have been much better though. Cairns needs a cultural change, far too many bully types, whiners, bitches etc. Every place I have worked at is toxic. The lowest common denominator is ruling the town. Excellence is a dirty word.

Anonymous said...

On bus, Sunbus should provide a service at least for airport workers and poor people. Seen eople walking ffs.

Anonymous said...

It could be anyone who could establish a private "Airport Shuttle Service" as well as a "Yorkeys Knob Cruise Ship Shuttle Service". Obviously there is a market for such a service.

Anonymous said...

It's got something to do with the people running the airport. It is privatised and they are charging the cabs and other transport companies a fee to access the premises. Wasn't grandpa Bob in charge of the airport at one stage ? he should know.

Anonymous said...

The problem is King wants to be with his family, he should have thought about that before he went into politics fucken dickhead, now we have to put up with him for 4 years winging about not seeing them while our city falls in a pile of shit.

Anonymous said...

Captain Mann(er)ing was in charge of the airport once, yes.

ruby said...

Richie Bates would have been the right person to have been the Member for Cairns. I can't see him giving up a $100 million in Government grant monies without a bloody good fight. Nor could I see him sitting on the Environmental Report into dredging and getting Mackenzie to make up some bullshit story when it is plain that the report CONFIRMED the original decision to cease wholescale dredging back in the 1980s. Nor could I see him sitting back and saying nothing while hundreds of people in Cairns lose their jobs.

Imagine what the Entertainment Precinct could have done for domestic tourism? What a tragedy that it was the casualty of the political ambitions of a few self-serving individuals who used it ruthlessly as a weapon of war. My confident predictions are that the Manning Council will dither around in their term, getting architect plans and "consulting" the community, then throw it as a hot potato to the next Council elected in 2016 to complete. 2016 will see yet again increased population pressure on the need for a new theatre, but the financial restraints of the Newman Government will have by then bitten hard. The Council of 2016 will face the certainty that a new theatre will result in a large rise in rates and an enraged community. This Council will be subject to the same abuse from media commentators that the Schier Council was. In effect, I predict the Manning Council will merely kick off the big circle again.

JETHRO said...

You are spot on, ruby. Cairns needs a representative who cares about the city and its community, not one who cares about his own career. We've been robbed blind by the Newman Government, and I agree with previous comments, that King played a huge part in eagerly surrendering the Entertainment Precinct grant monies plus the CBD revival grant monies to Newman, hoping for a Ministerial position for himself. King's craving for power and position is so obvious it's revolting.
I see where Captain Manner)ing, Stench and Co. are "leading the push" to have Cairns host some of the G20 conferences, in todays "Cairns Post". Once again, more misleading rot from the Post. Julia Gillard and Campbell Newman have ALREADY announced Cairns will host a G20 conference. Had Manning and Stench any foresight, they should have realised that Cairns could have hosted more international conferences had the Entertainment Precinct proceeded.

Dean said...

Or, all of the delegates could have attended a show at the CEP and helped to pay for it.

You'd be too embarrassed to take them to the Civic Theatre. So what do you say when it ticks over 7pm and the delegates ask what there is to do in Cairns at night? Party Bus?

Anonymous said...

NAH Jethro, Mackenzie and King both reckoned over and over that "the Entertainment Precinct would be a white elephant" remember? Yeah, a fucken white elephant. No-one would want to host an international conference in it. Goes to show over and over what that pair really are.

Anonymous said...

saw manning at the opening of cairns festival last night and saw someone actually having to drag him over and force him to watch the local choir singing, he wanted to skulk about in the corners with his small circle of friends. really shows how much he cares about locals and the importance of culture.

Anonymous said...

Mann(er)ing only cares about Mann(er)ing.

Wow King, not the brightest spark. Needs to read from the prompt sheet lol.

BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHA, OH HAHAHAHAHA, Im laughing here so bloody hard I can hardly type. - They cant dredge the inlet - because of Newman's feckin cutbacks!!! OH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh Christ that is rich.

Anonymous said...

Gav will be in seventh heaven once his cutbacks start affecting all the public service wait times. He can stand blissfully in queues for hours.

Anonymous said...

Captain Mannering, err Manning leads his Grandads army round and round in circles. Hup two, hup two.

JETHRO said...

Just read on facebook where Gav is defending Newman's policy on reducing Ergon Energy staff. Yep Gav is fervently parroting the Brisbane line alright, rather than representing the Far North. So we get a bad wet season with lots of wild storms, power lines go down, so how long do we wait without power?? One week, two weeks? What happens if we get another Yasi?

Hunter said...

Whilst I agree with you over the lack public or transport choice on arrival at cairns airport to say the taxi industry is an LNP monoply is pulling the strings of the bow a bit far. We seem to forget soon after a flogging that the seat of cairns for 100 yrs was a ALP monopoly. Like the Berlin wall it takes more than 100 days to pull down the communist stlye reign cairns has endured under the ALP for so long.

Anonymous said...

Ergon, well hear they have a bludge but the point is they are not the reason the state has debt, nor are housing tenant, nor are child care workers. Scare people enough they only worry for themselves, they stop caring about others. Iraq a good example, we do not care we are responsible for the deaths of innocents because we were frightened. We should be chasing the money like the Federal Government GST disbursements, the royalties, the port fees or miners we turn on the people instead. How the rich get richer and the poor pay. Divide and rule so predictable but yet still works a treat. How does the saying go?...First they came for..

King/Newman is using fear in the same way all bad governments have done, but no good governent would ever contemplate.

ruby said...

I've been wondering about the legal changes made by the Newman Government wherein serial paedophiles will be given sentencing of 20 years. The Police Service have apparently expressed their concerns over this saying that this sentencing may see an increase in children being killed rather than left alive as witnesses. I thought we had gone through all of this in the 1970s and resolved that it was in the victims interests that maximum penalties not be imposed? Astonishingly, there seems to be little debate once again on this serious change. This could have very grave implications, yet it seems to have passed through without comment.

jim-bob jnr. said...

Hunter, King was having a good old wank when he declared "Labor has held the seat of Cairns for 100 years." This is something that King does very well. Yeah he had a great old time wanking his way through his election campaign with that porkie knowing that morons like yourself wouldn't bother to do some research to find out it was bullshit.

Anon said...

Bright side? What a moron. There was no bright side there at 9.00 on Friday night when I got in. Instead of posting self-serving rubbish why doesn't get of his lazy fat arse and put a call into his state government mates and his CRC mates and do something about it.

ruby said...

Must you always be so crude, jim-bob jnr.? We know Gavin King lied like a pig in mud about the "100 years of Labor in Cairns" just as he lied and still lies about "20 years of Labor in Queensland".

Liz said...

ruby, I have been wondering about those changes myself. It would be interesting to hear D.J. Hunt's opinion.

ruby said...

jim-bob jnr. never under-estimate that many people LIKE being bullshitted to. They suck it up as gospel truth, that which you swear on the book itself or your Grandmother's grave. So King swaggers around full of sleazy egotistical braggadocio claiming to be the "first non ALP member for Cairns in 100 years". Yep, this awful lie feeds his ego and his craving for importance and adulation. Those who are alert to the facts and human nature itself see it for what it is, a lie born from a power hungry, ambitious and unscrupulous individual who sees himself as infinitely and vastly more important than the pawn he is in reality.

Anonymous said...

I can;t wait until his constituents flood his office with rabid phone calls about increased waiting times at the Department of Transport. This'll be the first public service to just about fall over I reckon.

Bob R. said...

Seth mate, Im laughing here too. What a fucken joke allright. After all that bullshitting and hysteria whipped up by rugnut, Manning and King about how dredging up the inlet would save Cairns and the tourist industry from going arse up, they now reckon they can't dredge because Newman wont cough up the moolah. Christ theyre piling on the bullshit aren't they.

Anonymous said...

No CEP, No CBD revival, No dredging and now NO TAXIS for the King !

Fortunately CAN'T DO has enough money to replace Beattie's Burger with a new (old) logo. Yes, all stationery and signage in all state government departments will have to be replaced at great expense to the the tax payers.

What's next ? The resurrection of the Special Branch and God Save the Queen ( because nothing will save the King)...

Anonymous said...

ruby, King was the first non-Labor Member for Cairns since 1947. However Val Schier was the very first female Mayor of Cairns or Cairns Regional Council, ever. Cairns was first settled in 1876. Look how the "boys club" including Gavin King treated Val!
