WHERE IN THE WORLD IS MANNING SANDIEGO?

While the hillbilly community in Cairns gets  Bob "Screwdriver" Manning flapping his mouth whenever Cueball MacKenzie snaps his fingers, the rest of the community has observed mostly a Mayor "MIA".

Port Douglas is just one such kettle of (imported) fish.

Longtime resident, raconteur, nee'r-do-well, and former owner of the Courthouse Hotel is one Michael Gabour.  Michael and his wife run the very popular local radio station, Radio Port Douglas.

Since the Cairns Regional Council election, Michael has tried fruitlessly to get Bob Manning on the radio for a chat (as Mayor Schier did weekly) with this economic hub and largest of divisions.  Manning has flatly refused the weekly chat, claiming he's "too busy", or "too sleepy", we're not sure.  He's also yet to have a community meeting in Port, and rumours persist that the Division 10 council meetings have been discontinued by the new disUnity Team.

So now Gabour is instead on Monday running the "Where's Bob" show, 8:20 AM.  Kinda like the Port version of "Where in the World is Manning Sandiego".

And this isn't the only group that Bob Manning is disrespecting.  Community events regularly opened by Schier and even Kevin "Hiding from the Pakis" Byrne opened and spoke at the Junior Eisteddfod, Ukelele Festival, and other events.  Manning has been MIA at all of these events - said to be "too tired" to get out in the community.  A growing, dynamic community doesn't need scatterbrained, geriatric leader.

Our suggestion?  When Manning is on 4CA, Gabour and Radio Port Douglas need to call-in to 4CA and get on line to "Ask Bob".

Byrne never opened any Ukulele Festival as they didn't start until the Schier Council was in office. However, yes, Byrne did attend and opened many community events. Don't forget that Byrne also faced the electors. Manning, on the other hand, is only in for one term so he doesn't have to do anything to keep the electors on side. He won't be accountable to the public which is why he is treating the public with contempt.
Not opening the Eisteddfod was a real slap in the face to the 5000 kids who attended, but then Manning has already demonstrated sheer contempt for the children of the region by killing the Entertainment Precinct.

You are right Hillbilly. Gabour needs to get onto rugnut's program and wait in line, if he passes the screening test, to get a chance to speak with Manning. I would suggest he spruiks a lot of shit about how much he admires the new Mayor etc in order that he can get onto the program.

Could those who want to see Bob not visit him on his day bed at council chambers?

We need a very public media onslought to find out the results of the study into dredging the channel.Considering the hysteria on local talkback and wannabe politicians on the subject the silence is now deafening on the subject. My guess is the report says half the costs would have to be born by rate payers or it is not cost effective for the outcomes to dredge.

Anonymous, above I agree. We need to put pressure on King to be "transparent". DREDGING the inlet was one of his Number One promises to get elected. Manning and the Unity Team also campaigned on "dredging the inlet" and lets not ever forget that piece of land the Entertainment Precinct was to have been built on, which was (in the very words of Manning) "of critcal importance to future Ports operations in Cairns."

During his tenure as mayor, Kevin Byrne's attendances at arts and cultural events were thin on the ground. Bob Manning has yet to be sighted at the Tanks Arts Centre, CoCA or any other local arts & culture venues — at least during a concert or exhibition. No surprise really since he's already informed us that he and his wife jet down south to see shows (which is why he helped to sink the CEP). In stark contrast, his predecessor hardly missed a local cultural event of any significance during her watch. Come back, Val ... Cairns needs you!

From my memory, Byrne only opened and attended an event, if there was a free drink and food. A bit like Enstch. Val on the other hand would appear at minority group events even though she was not invited in an official capacity. She just totally involved herself in the community to meet the people and show interest in their doings etc.

If you look at all the money that the Libs were hording from us Australians, and here we were in Cairns screaming out for a new hospital and roads that were needed badly and little Johnny Howard said we couldn't aford it. Fucken liar he was just like a old granny saying, here's 5 cents son and don't spend it all now!. It wasn't till the Labor Party got in and opened the vault and things started happening for Cairns, but while we have these "cando you up the arse" mob in were fucked as they will use the excuse there's no money so they can hoard it.

Yes indeed Tony Hillier. We need Val back. Perhaps we might organise a huge singalong of that old Equal's song, "Baby, Come Back!" and put it up on youtube.

A great idea Tony and Eckers, but there is just a little problem convincing the the great brainwashed masses to think for themselves when next they vote and not listen to the biased crap that passes for comment in the local commercial media in this hillbilly town.

I have been told that very few people call TalkBack. Most of the regular "contributors" get called by McKenzie, not the other way around. That's why you get the same old ratbags dribbling their nonsense day in day out. McKenzie completely ignored the 12 th International Reef Symposium being held in the convention centre today.Instead he had some obscure Canadian journo flogging her book attacking scientists who believe in climate change. One of the regular Bills rang up promptly ( prompted?) and started drooling all over the Canadian journo, who probably is a distant cousin of our very own "Pearl". Yes, bring back Val and relieve us from this dithering old fool we have been lumbered with. This year will be remembered as the year that Cairns took a massive step backwards.

A lot of Port people voted for Bob so perhaps they might like to call in to St Mary's by the Sea and offer up a plethora of prayer that His Worshit will actually drive up and see them at least once before he pisses off on his luxurious retirement paid for by themselves.

A real turn-around from "Bob The Builder" of a new CEP to "Bob The WRECKER". The kids are angry and so are the voters.
