While the hillbilly community in Cairns gets Bob "Screwdriver" Manning flapping his mouth whenever Cueball MacKenzie snaps his fingers, the rest of the community has observed mostly a Mayor "MIA".
Port Douglas is just one such kettle of (imported) fish.
Longtime resident, raconteur, nee'r-do-well, and former owner of the Courthouse Hotel is one Michael Gabour. Michael and his wife run the very popular local radio station, Radio Port Douglas.
Since the Cairns Regional Council election, Michael has tried fruitlessly to get Bob Manning on the radio for a chat (as Mayor Schier did weekly) with this economic hub and largest of divisions. Manning has flatly refused the weekly chat, claiming he's "too busy", or "too sleepy", we're not sure. He's also yet to have a community meeting in Port, and rumours persist that the Division 10 council meetings have been discontinued by the new disUnity Team.
So now Gabour is instead on Monday running the "Where's Bob" show, 8:20 AM. Kinda like the Port version of "Where in the World is Manning Sandiego".
And this isn't the only group that Bob Manning is disrespecting. Community events regularly opened by Schier and even Kevin "Hiding from the Pakis" Byrne opened and spoke at the Junior Eisteddfod, Ukelele Festival, and other events. Manning has been MIA at all of these events - said to be "too tired" to get out in the community. A growing, dynamic community doesn't need scatterbrained, geriatric leader.
Our suggestion? When Manning is on 4CA, Gabour and Radio Port Douglas need to call-in to 4CA and get on line to "Ask Bob".
