CAIRNS CHAMBER FIGHTS BACK AFTER ATTACKS ORGANISED BY MACKENZIE AND LNP RATBAGS

Elected Cairns Chamber of Commerce President Anthony Mirotsos, who's been under fire with attacks organised by John MacKenzie and his radio program, today fired back at the critics, doubling down on the Chamber's disappointment with the new Bob Manning "led" Cairns Regional Council.

One of the most scathing remarks on Mirotsos came from Kevin "Hiding from the Pakis" Byrne.  It was filled with bile and caustic personal attacks on Mirotsos, and alleged that Mirotsos had acted without consulting his board.  Byrne also offered up excuses, claiming that Manning needed "time to change the direction" after the change of administration, and that the sniping was "bad for the city".  THIS FROM THE GUY WHO LED THE SNIPING AGAINST VAL SCHIER FROM DAY ONE AFTER THE 2008 ELECTION, AND NEVER LET UP!  And these themes were then picked up by Martin Tenni, Karin "Pearl Necklace" Pollard, and Raj the Printer.  All wrong.

In a letter to Chamber membership today Mirotsos says that his role as President is "to translate the thoughts and feelings of the Cairns Chamber membership to external audiences".  He points out the "overwhelming feeling of the membership. . .is one of frustration (with the CRC).  They promised to hit the ground running. . . .while the Newman administration set clear 100 day targets. . . then hit the vast majority of them, our CRC leadership appears to our members to have listed and achieved very little in the same space of time".

Cairns residents were sold this disUnity Team, with almost $200K in spending that was more than all of the other candidates combined.  The message?  Bob Manning is an experienced leader!  This has not been borne out in this council's virtually non-existant performance and appalling lack of leadership and vision.

Mirotsos also noted that at the Chamber lunch this week, Manning had the opportunity to fight back, to articulate his and council's work plan.  But instead Manning made a lame joke, sat with his arms folded, and looked a lonely, despondent and beaten man.  Just a few months into the job!

Mirotsos also shares with the community in this letter the lack of engagement and vision they had when they conducted their first meeting between the Chamber Management Committee and Manning shortly after the election.  Cairns needs a firebrand, a go-getter.  We instead look to have gotten a doddering old grandpa.

At Council committee meetings yesterday, this frustration began to show among the new councillors.  In one heated exchange with the chair, Cr. Steve Brain, annoyed at the Rubik's cube-like council processes, was reported to have said "let's just fuck it off then".  And while he later apologised, this councillor who brings a high level of military bullshit-intolerance along with decisive, decision-making skill, can see the rudderless gang that's now driving us into the rocks.  He should have been given a leadership role, but instead is sucking eggs.

So far, the only leader in this town is Anthony Mirotsos.  No wonder the other ratbags are out to get him.

The letter is signed "Anthony Mirotsos, President, Cairns Chamber of Commerce".
"And on behalf of the entire Cairns Chamber Management Committee".

To remove any doubt that this is a clear, majority position of the city's business leaders.  Stuff that up your jumper, KB!

Gooooooooooooo ,Mirotsos!! You're darn right, this Council is a lame duck. Face it, they only had one single objective, to get rid of Val Schier and the Entertainment Precinct. Their election was a personal victory of spite and revenge, not a POLICY DRIVEN victory. It was all about getting rid of a woman, a woman who had the audacity and sheer affrontery to beat Kev Byrne, that's all the Unity Team was about, nothing more. Well they tossed Val, got rid of the Entertainment Precinct...and now they don't have a FUCKEN clue what to do next.

Let's not forget the fact, entch stated at first he formed this business group of moller, mirotsis, and the other fella then said he was not part of it. Good on you anthony for speaking out to show us how useless this council and state gov are, they are setting this region up for sale and just want to rip us off.

Bob Manning IS a sad lonely and old man. He is the talentless dummy that the clique selected to stand against Val Shier, and the years of constant sniping and a substantial campaign budget ensured they succeeded. But there was no plan beyond that. And that's the strangest part of all: NO PLAN BEYOND BEATING SHIER. And here we are, in the doldrums, doing nothing, going no where, going backwards! People are starting to wake up and asking questions, but they can give no answers. They didn't think that far ahead.

Looks like Michael Moore is teaming up with his LNP mates judging by his latest post on his Cairns Blog. Maybe it is time we have the details of his activities aired for all to see like he has just done with his 'expose' of Hillbilly Watch.

Grandpa Bob was very busy on Council duty tonight. We saw him having afternoon drinks and then dinner with his wife at Bar8. Wonder how many community invitations he turned down for tonight??

Proof is in the pudding, so to speak. The only objective Manning and his Unity Team had was to beat Schier and quash the Entertainment Precinct. They had no policies or plans for the city beyond that. They have had six months which is a reasonable amount of time for a "honeymoon". They never gave Val Schier any honeymoon period. It is patently obvious there are no plans for anything and that Manning is too weak an individual to stand up for Cairns. It seems to me as if Mirotsos is only doing his job like he should in asking where is the progress. The hard truth is that Cairns is regressing, going back in circles as posters in this blog have pointed out.

But doesnt it all go to show that the LNP in Cairns just can't take any criticism? Manning has had ample time, half a year, in which to say something about his plans, but there is nothing, zip, zilch, nada. People are talking and starting to wonder if he is competent enough to be in a public position. So when Mirotsos does the right thing and ask, well where is the progress for Cairns, in comes Moller, out of his coffin in daylight, rushing in to defend Manning with this bullshit about not giving Manning enough time. Talk about fucken duplicitous behaviour! They didnt give Val Schier a single day before they were ripping into her.
And there is even more duplicity. I see Michael Moore attacking one of the alleged writers of HBW (I'm not sure he has the right person, actually!!!) and quoting his very close friend WAZZA,(he who wears the tight tight leathers and earring), and carrying on about personal attacks and slander blahblah blah. Then Moore goes and indulges in an orgy of slander himself about one of the alleged writers of HBW! WTF Is this because Moore now thinks he is one of the LNP and can say whatever he wants including, revealing himself to be one enormous fuck of a hypocrite? Jesus bloody Christ, what the fuck is happening in this city? The city has gone crazy with a pack of dingoes trying to run the place. Finally, MANNING, get off your arse you bludging bludger, you're being paid huge sums of money to get this city moving. You reckoned you could do it. If you can't then fucken resign and hand it over to someone younger and with more energy.

Ooooh well said Jethro. Well said indeed old boy. A "bludging bludger" is what we've got as Mayor and we've got a craven gutless sooky effete soggy bread eating mexican wimp as a State Member. On top of it all, we've got a bloody sociopath as Premier who likens medical staff to "garbage collectors" and who is ripping Queensland apart.

Jethro, you've got to ask yourself why Michael Moore is running such a vitriolic "get square"? Most readers have long ago identified different writing styles in the HBW blog and I know for a fact Entsch has got it wrong. Moore makes claims about his very short time at the Red Cross Blood Service - but has never explained why he was sacked. I'm sure Michael Moore is "judgement proof" - he's been unemployable for years, and has a big payout to Alan Blake likely to be ordered soon. The only one to have parliamentary privilege is Entsch, and even repeating his unsupported allegations leaves anyone open to charges. Glad to see HBW not jumping down into the sewer with these "community leaders", but instead keeping the readers focused on the real issues facing Cairns.

I wish you wouldn't use that nick, "WAZZA", Jethro. It makes me feel nauseous as it is indicative of the matey matey all for one and one for all nature of the BOYS CLUB in Cairns today. It's very different from the BOYS CLUB when Ron Davis, Mick Borzi etc were running it, very very different. We've seen enough evidence that todays version has no scruples or ethics whatsoever and any behaviour or tactics to get into power is acceptable. They have no standards or bottom line. But it is worse than that. This lot reek of corruption and menace. They have already revealed they don't want scrutiny, they don't want questioning, they don't want criticism. They have demonstrated they are prepared to polarise the city, ruin reputations, run to solicitors for defamation actions, use Mackenzie to spin lie after lie after lie, and to use ignorant and foolish people like shit paper. There is an ugly glaring sociopathy to this BOYS CLUB. They will go to any lengths, any distance, any corruption imagineable to get what they want.

As a chamber member, i too received this letter from our board early yesterday. I find it telling that the Cairns Post, copied on the letter, did not print it or do any kind of follow-up. This leaves the lies told about Mitrosis without the factual rebuttal.

All of this is why we need HBW.

Whilst I agree with Mirotsos that Cairns is in a state of paralysis (what an excellent description!), I disagree with you people as to the causes. I am not looking at personalities in my analysis. Looking at the big picture, the city has stopped dead with massive amounts of funding either withdrawn or in doubt, because of the results of the State Election. Newman has an unprecedented majority to govern. King, Trout, Kempton etc are, in public service terminology, "supernumeraries and surplus to requirements." (If they were all members of the public service today, they would have their emails by this.) This is the cause of our citys paralysis. Had the election resulted in a closer result, with the LNP governing with a lesser majority of say four to five seats, Newman would be trying to please as many electorates as possible to stay in power. We could safely say, in that event, we would have all our funding.
It is unfortunate for us, and many other people in other electorates, that when one political party, and that could be any party, has such a huge overwhelming majority, that it does not guarantee good governance, but the reverse.
I see Manning and the CRC caught up in this quandary. Well, that's how I see it. The bigger picture here is what is important, not personality bashing.

Caroline, you know who said...

You are unquestionably right there Alison, however don't you think that our so called civic "leaders" like Manning and King should be roaring away like lions demanding Cairns be given a shot in the stagnant economy? For sure we have a Premier hellbent on achieving a AAA rating in as short a time period as possible and causing havoc in doing so. But surely our elected representatives should be pointing out to Newman that the city has needs and that maybe Newman should slow down the slash and burn tactics? This would be my expectations anyway.

Alison, if you were worried about the size of the LNP majority, why did you works so hard to undermine the ALP? Many of my friends noticed your vitriolic and insulting behaviour, knew you were a trad Labor hack, and voted accordingly. Gavin King ought be down on his knees with gratitude for your efforts.

Alison Alloway said...

What peurile sophistry and nonsense Anonymous 10.29. "Many of your friends" hey? Not yourself? ROFL, I'm laughing here. So your friends "voted accordingly" because of My "vitriolic behaviour"??? Not because of Anna Bligh and the sale of State assets, or the abortion debacle? They voted "accordingly" because of ME?? I, who am just a member of the public with no political aspirations?? Either you have dead stupid "friends" Anonymous or you must have had too much ganga this morning and are full of cat piss and wind. I note you hide behind the usual cloak of anonymity as well. Go and take your pills, have a lie down and then try and say something rational under your own name, if you can. Half-wit. "Some of your friends" LOL LOL.

Will someone pleaeaease feed the vile former minister for brown paper bags to the crocodiles. That's bound to kill them.

This bloke is just too toxic even by McKenzie low standards. Why does Sledgehammer allow this garbage on air day after day ?

What a bitter, miserable old fool of a man. A proud former member of the most corrupt state government in Australian history and still he won't SHUT UP.

He should be in jail or in a padded cell in a mental asylum somewhere.

When he dies I hope he gets buried in a large brown paper bag donated by the frugal CAN DO government !!!

The near dormant Cairns Blog has suddenly burst into life with some of the best hypocrisy I've seen in a long time. HBW is being criticised for the villification of certain Cairns political identities? Now that's something Mr Moore would never do. Just ask Alan Blake.

Dean said...

I'ts counter productive to reduce debt, if it means reducing your revenue base by so much that it will affect your bottom line. If you want to cut spending, you're supposed to do it slowly to avoid sharp drops, because the economy is not linear, it's parabolic. Once you start going down, the speed will increase.

Newman cut the budget, so CRC should have put a bit back in to pick up the slack. Instead, they all made big cuts to spending and employment, cut their revenue base and now they're on a downward spiral and taking us all with them.

Manning has no plan, no idea and no vision. HBW knows it, The Chamber knows it, even the public are realising it. The last one to know will be Manning himself. He won't run for the next term to avoid the embarrassment.

Cairns is the laughing stock of the state and Townsvill has been the biggest beneficiary over the last 30 years. Mackay and Rocky are also booming.

what a sorry state of affairs we have in cairns so many experts who know best but with no idea i bet the old leaders of this town are turning in their graves these cockspanks in charge now are going to destroy the place

Seth at Port said...

Dunno about the place being "destroyed" Anonymous 20.28. The word is "paralysed", meaning not moving forward but stagnating or "regressing" meaning going round and round in circles. Take your pick. Either one, Cairns is going no place any time soon.
ps Alison, I reckon your usage of the word "supernumary" must have really stung someone. They reacted like a donkey stung on the arse.

Has Warren Enscht used Parliamentary privilige to spread malicous gossip? Certainly Cairns Blog links have far, far less credibility than HBW. Some online nutter one man hate campaign who even gets told he is the one looking sicko on a forum.

Also naming someone does not make it possible to take action as they still require the website host to provide that information as it is the publishers who is responsible, not only/or the "rumoured" author.

If you are to believe the idle online gossip, as it appears they have, then it also includes the snippet that alledges the named person can never own a website ever again. Yet then they say that person own one currently named by WE. So what is the truth?

So if they have used the internet at all for any "proof" they are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

I do think HBW should make some form of reply though to retain some credibility and also ensure any claims can be verified. Also unlected or unaccountable people should be left alone.

Some stuff on this site has been very welcome as we want the truth but sometimes seems crossing the line.

Good luck

THANK GOD for Hillbilly Watch. Have a gander at the online comments of The Cairns Post which is now catering for the dumbed down local population of rednecks and intellectually challenged parrots. Oh yes the stimulating debate of the day is about crocs taking dogs. I dare say it will fully engross the mental pygmies for another couple of weeks.

Re Anthony Mirotsos's "Statement from Cairns Chamber of Commerce" advertisement in the current Weekend Post. Is this a first where business leaders demand proper consultation with their local councillors and in particular Mayor Manning? This Mayor has shown nothing of vision or communication with the community at all. Why don't the Chamber just come out and say 'NO CONFIDENCE" in the Mayor and either BRING BACK VAL who they consulted with regularly or ask for an Administrator to be called in!

You seem to have ruffled a few feathers there Alison whoever. However thats the way I see it too, the city has ground to a halt because of an incompetent Member of Parliament and the inept machinations of a Premier who was elected on a record of no parliamentary experience whatsoever. Frankly when a Premier cannot understand the value of technology in medicine, I start to worry. You were correct in expressing your fears about tuberculosis by the way,

Michael Moore is an idiot. The difference between the Cairnsblog and HillbillyWatch is clear - Moore was using the blog to run a "get square" on people he didn't like, and the HBW just focuses on what's happening around town with the so-called leadership, and "big end of town". And wasn't it Michael Moore that first began a big push to promote the HBW? I'm unconvinced about who the so-called blog owner is, despite whatever Warren Entsch says. And frankly, I don't care. Just gimme my HBW every day.

Alison Alloway said...

Thanks Doc for your supportive comments. I note medical staff are out there protesting the axeing of the Brisbabe t.b. centre this week. I want you to know and to tell all your colleagues that Gavin King did not reply to my email expressing my gravest concerns about tuberculosis arriving into the country. Also please note that The Cairns Post did not publish a letter I sent int to them also expressing my concerns.

Anonymous 14.39, I wouldn't worry too much about the former minister for brown paper bags. I get who you mean. I think age has caught up with this chappy and something could be going on up top in his head. Best to ignore him and wonder what we're going to be like in our own dotage. I hope to Christ I don't sound like him, but -

Mckenzie just hung up on Racist Roy who complained that indigenous people were not being "controlled". We definitely don't need a racist rant from a whingeing Pom, so why is toxic Tenni allowed so much air time and why is he allowed to use the "N" word on air without any repercussions? I'd love to ignore the old fool, but there he is , day after day, spruiking his nonsense in the belief that the Joh glory days are back.

Hey Anonymous 21/9 10:29

Fancy thinking that alison Alloway has so much influence over how her friends vote? Talk about insulting. As a friend of hers I am quite capable of thinking for myself thank you. And, I think the Anna Bligh gov can be blamed for their own election loss. The final straw came when she mounted that stupid campaign against Can Do and his family (against advice I heard). I further hope the Labor Party never again interferes with a preselection ballot especially ours. I also hope that they learn some valuable lessons about what is important to Labor voters - for example, state assets, listening to their electorates and reporting back to cabinet, justice etc. The people of Queensland had a gut full of Labor by the time Can Do stepped up as the first promising alternative leader in years and unfortunately, I think this accounted for the overwhelming vote in favour of LNP - not Alison. (And I didn't vote for Gwain Bling.) What a crock!
