It was truly racist and not sure even why it was ever published. In every society you could say there were freaks and weirdo but when do you say that there should be no democracy because of it? Not good for a politician either to have caveats on democracy, especially one who appears to not represent "those people". Dear Chinese people, the real freak and weirdo is Gavin King. We will dispose of him in "democratic time".

Yair - I second that anonymous

King boasted he spent "quality time" with the President of China Eastern, "Mr. Ma". Did he ask Mr. Ma if he was a freak or weirdo? Or did Ma, having be briefed, assure King he was neither? What a double embarrassment for Cairns - King not only our local rep, but also junior minister for tourism.

Anonymous said...

For those who missed (or ignored) the original article : In the article dated August 9, 2008 Mr King said, “China is made up of more than 1.3 billion people, with all manner of interest groups, ethnic clans, freaks and weirdos.”

“Bleeding hearts in the west miss the point when they call for democracy,” he said.

“I realise it's politically correct to advocate for democracy and free speech in China, but it`s clear this is the last thing the world needs right now.”

Cairns apparently doesn't need democracy either...

Anonymous said...

King turned out to be a visionary after all :

"So in my quest to help the TV producers find some A-grade dorks, I turned to the one place I was guaranteed to find them - the Liberal National Party," Mr King wrote.

"I'm certain they could all run a farm better than most people. I'm just not sure we want them running the state.

"In fact, this bunch of bogans would be better off as actors on the small screen, where we can laugh with them, instead of at them," Mr King wrote.

Anonymous said...

King's own words about democracy and free speech, ie "...this is the last thing the world needs right now" sends chills down my spine.
The Courier Mail today reports that 2410 more jobs are expected to be axed in Queensland Health.
We're living in a nightmare.

jim-bob jnr. said...

Huh, the biggest dork of them all in the LNP would have to be King himself. Gotta say though Im getting sick and tired of bagging King because he isn't worth any personal headspace. Im still spewing over Newman turfing out the old people and handicapped people from Eventide. I reckon we got some type of fucken Tasmanian devil in as Premier. Boy, did we flip from the fucken frying pan right into the fucken fire itself last election.

ruby said...

Anonymous 07.39 and jim-bob, Ive also been reading todays Courier Mail and looking at all the e-petitions from staff in all the aged care nursing facilities in Queensland trying to save the institutions. So, 2,410 more staff in Queensland Health to be sacked. God help us all.
I've been seeing the gradual emergence of fear amongst people in the past few months. It isn't just anger, it's a cauldron of disbelief, shock and anger mixed with unease and increasingly, real fear. I cannot recall a time when people lowered their voices, almost conspiratorically, to talk about politics. I cannot recall a time when people "veiled" their eyes and changed the subject so quickly when criticism of a government came up. It is so totally different from the anger, and the open shrillness of disapproval of the Bligh Government. It is so different from the rowdy open anger against the Bjelke-Petersen Government. LNP supporters today are conspicuously silent, ALP supporters seem largely paralysed and mute with shock. It's like Queensland has been king hit in the guts several times and winded. We have never seen a State Government like Newman's. No Government has ever attacked programs and institutions for the handicapped and elderly. None.
I repeat the mood of the electorate is, in my memory, unprecedented.

What disgusting and vile blog this is,
Positive tourism news for Cairns is rubbished and turned into a personal and gutless attack on Gavin King by losers and ALP hacks.
The lot of you are no better than the people you defame.
How many of you actually have a job/ employ people or do anything useful for the community.I'll bet a lot just bludge off the Governement.
You just sit at home in your dark little room throwing rocks form behind fences. The new gutless scum of modern society.
Cairns needs this blog like we need another Yasi

Dear very Concerned, You see here we have a go at those in the public eye not like you cowards that attack the vunerable, the taxpayer, the worker, the ukelele players, the cyclist, the Chinese, the aboriginal in fact anyone they wish to hate upon for the day with some sort of sick and twisted extremist self rigtheous reasoning. So go outside and get some sun and stop worrying about people having a go at the pollies, it is Aussie tradition and this mob are disgraceful.

"How many of you actually have a job/ employ people or do anything useful for the community? " asks "Very Concerned" .

Most of us actually do, so that is something you don't need to be concerned about.

The usual dismissive dole bludger slur does not work here. Why don't you try to debate the issues instead ?

Mick said...

I hope you say the same to the commenters in the Cairns Post and the listeners who phone into to John McKenzie too Very Concerned. I mean, it's only fair...

Dear Very Concerned, I am typing this on one of the computers owned by the limited liability company of which I am the majority shareholder.

I consider the time spent helping to get rid of the most economically and socially destructive goverment Queensland has ever had (including the putrid Joh Government)to be time well spent.

Dean said...

Very Concerned is only doing what the blog is set up to do. This blog criticises MaCkenzie, VC attacked this blog.

The fact that most of the posts attacking the blog contain no discussion on-topic but simply attack the perceived people who appear on the blog (and is wildly off the mark, I'm self-employed and run my own successful business, but thanks for your concern) says a lot more about those posters than it contributes to the topic.

Does anyone else get the idea that P.Crockford is a punk young kid pretending to be a crazy old man?

I did think this most recent HBW post was a bit ill-directed and timed, but at least no visitors are going to read it, I doubt many will type in hillbillywatch to a search engine.

Type in Cairns to Google and you get the Compost which for years contained the ramblings of an imbecile/editor which would have done a lot of damage to the image of the city.

"Anonymous Anonymous said... It was truly racist and not sure even why it was ever published."

The answer is that the cairns Post is the second most racist, bigoted newspaper in Australia (No.1 is the NT News).

It is one of the many many reasons why the Murdoch empire is known collectively as the Hate Media.

Tony Hillier said...

Ruby, I realise that it's stating the bleeding obvious, but I'm afraid there is absolutely no escaping the fact that Newman was delivered an unprecedented mandate by Queensland voters, who had made up their mind en-masse to dump Bligh's ALP govt. One wonders how many of them now regret giving the LNP their vote, especially those that reside here in Cairns.

Anonymous said...

My job is being a dole bludger, and part of my job discripion is to go to centrelink and collect my free money, then go to the bottlelo to grab a slab and then make a few calls to fellow workmates to come around to my unit that is subserdised by my employer, and then get drunk abuse our neibores for being white and then the best part about my job is coming on here and talk shit.

Dean said...

Tony, the problem is not that they dumped the ALP, who were running themselves into the ground, but that the only viable alternative they saw was the LNP.

Even ALP supporters would say the Bligh Govt wasn't the best set of politicians (though not worse than Newman)

Given the setup of voting in Qld and no upper house, it tends to be more true here than in Federal Parliament that any other vote may be wasted, particularly in Cairns where the mixture from conservative/redneck right through to progressive/hippie is so well spread.

Qld is an advertisement for proportional representation if I've ever seen one. Heaving from one side of the political spectrum so violently to the other is terrible for the economy and long-term planning.

Anonymous said...

How true Tony. As bad as it is, I am one who can enjoy the warm inner glow of being a person who did NOT vote for the LNP. It's a good feeling being a part of a small majority which judged things oh so correctly - or at least had a hunch that Newman was going to turn into a vile dictator with small man syndrome. That say, I now have to suffer for what the idiot majority put in place. Sigh ...

Anonymous said...

The media played a huge part in Newman's election, Bligh was crucified over the sale of State assets by the media machine. Yet compare that to the way the media have treated Newman on breaking his election promise of "The public service need not fear me!" And then he goes and sacks 14,000 public servants, the biggest mass sacking in Queensland's history!
Compare and contrast the actions of the media machine.

Bob R. said...

Well said Anonymous. Imagine the uproar, the fucken mother of all outrages if it was a Labor Government responsible for the biggest wholescale sacking of workers ever in Queensland? Can you imagine? There would be media demands for the Government to resign day after day. The State Governor would be harassed daily with calls to sack the Government.
Mackenzie would be screaming and inciting the rabble and hillbillies to fever pitch. And then look at how Newman is turfing out frail old people out of Nursing homes. If it was a Labor Government doing this Mackenzie would be beating his chest, wringing his hands, putting a big ball of snot in his throat and squeezing out tears on his program calling the Labor Ggovernment "despicable", "without a conscenice". Instead he indicates he thinks it is all marvellous. The hypocritcal bastard.

Talk about hypocritical; the whingeing Pearl was on before and she is worried about transients polluting her beloved Wangetti. She demands that Manning installs portaloos and provides for parking for those skanky sightseers who are will descend on her backyard to watch the eclipse.

While Pearl is in favour of boot camps, she does not want one in her backyard and is demanding compensation from the council (even though this is a state matter)if one is put in Wangetti. After all they are already lumbered with an Aboriginal college...

Pearl you have been advocating and screaming for the council and state government we currently have and now you want compensation ????

Anonymous said...

Manning just spoke strongly in favour of bikeways in Cairns, absolutely stunning the vile Tenni after his usual tirade against greenies, do-gooders and cyclists.

Anonymous said...

The economic benefit of Chinese tourism is expected to be very low initially. The eclipse will be 3 times more for just a few days.

The real benefit would come from growth in education and business trade and sustained tourism. This would be more likely had we invested in upgrading the CBD and going ahead with the CEP.

That is not rocket science, investment of that type pay back whereas just big noting oneself at a chinese dinner makes for very little long term benefit.

Look at Singapore and now Sydney. Major investment and major major returns. Singapore exceptional tourism growth. But did not happen without some risk.

So be positive? Why when some selfish people have made political ambition more important than the town's future?

They make me sick. Whatver happens it would have been better with forward thinking. LNP have taken away opportunity from Cairns and nothing they can try to spin will ever change that. I for one will never let them forget it.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone put in a call to Jamie Packer?

The dishonourable Martin Tenni's obituary is being prepared as we speak. Long may his vile memory be a blot on Queensland.

DEATH NOTICE.

It is with great sadness that i am reporting the passing of the relationship between Klem the koala and Crockpot. A very sad day when these two bigoted, miserable pains in the arse have actually turned on each other in recent days!Best laugh i have had reading the Cairns postings in years. Clem actually called Crock of shite a GREENIE!!! Which got a typical reaction except it wasnt pointed at any of the reasoned factual statements from most other posters, it was aimed at a fellow troll!Irony or justice....hmmmm, i cant decide and who gives a rats arse!

Anonymous said...

I noticed that one as well. Crockshit, Spewville and the Koah Clem, the 3 despicable uber trolls who will attack anybody and even each other. It would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that internet bullies like them discourage many , intelligent , knowledgeable people from expressing their opinion.

I am at a loss to understand why the CP allows these idiots to post their endless, nasty and baseless comments day in day out.

There must be something seriously wrong with these morons. Inferiority complex for short arse de Spewville, bitterness for the whinging Crockpot, because his missus left him and no one will give him a job (wonder why ?) and the Clam is obviously the clinically insane product of years of inbreeding.

It's a bit like 4 CA. Any one who actually is allowed on air with a different opinion will be cut off, then will be on the receiving end of some snide comments from Cueball, without the opportunity to respond and on cue a a conga line of regulars will ring up to totally diiscredit the brave soul who dares to think outside Cueball's (tiny) universe.t.

Anonymous said...

Another great initiative from the LNP: cairns Port is earmarked for uranium shipping ! Just what this place needs. It will greatly enhance our image. maybe be can put a nuclear waste processing plant on the CEP site. The CP Trolls will be ecstatic and anyone who raises concerns is obviously a green, tree hugging do-gooder communist.

Anonymous said...

to bloody right, and you greenies, tree huggers dogooders should pull ya fucken heads in we need to have this mineing, and let all those you buete youranis ships in here as it will make our city glow.

ruby said...

So instead of an Entertainment Precinct overlooking the inlet, we have ships exporting yellow cake. Hmm, wonder if that is because a CERTAIN SOMEONE has financial interests in a shipping line????? Wonder what all the tourists arriving by cruise ship are gonna think when they see the ships transporting yellow cake beside them?

Anonymous said...

Slightly off topic but -what do Ayr, Brisbane, Bundaberg,Gladstone, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville have in common? They are all to be treated to a free live simulcast from the Arts Centre Melbourne of Opera Australia's performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly delivered by satelite to theatres in these diverse Queensland towns. I heard the very arts minded Mayor of Townsville this morning saying how important it was to bring such cultural treats to towns throughout Queensland. She was a breath of fresh air and made me think how much Cairns is suffering with the loss of our former Mayor and her interest in the arts. Why is Cairns not included in this marvellous event? Not everyone can afford to fly to Brisbane or Melbourne Mr Mayor.

Ms Elly-May said...

Why, Anonymous above? Didn't you hear the Mayor when he was first elected. He and his wife fly to Brisbane or Melbourne to see shows. So what is the problem? Manning and his wife don't see any problem with that. They both enjoy their little trips down South and can talk with enthusiasm about the restaurants they go to, the shows they see and the shopping they do.
They can't see anything wrong with that!!!
Hey, what, you say that "not everyone can AFFORD to fly to Brisbane or Melbourne....."???!!!!
What is this strange word, "afford" Anonymous? Do you really think someone like Manning would understand the meaning of it??? Really???

Anonymous said...

Went to another show at the Civic Theatre at the week-end. Slipped off the seat again and had to endure old jokes by the M.C. during scene changes because no revolving stage for quick changes - way behind the times. No theatre ambience coffee place for pre-show or interval talk. What an embarrassment for the highly talented performers - can imagine the shoddy conditions backstage too. When can we move on in with vision this city?

Anonymous said...

Like being in the 70s in Brisbane every time I go to a show. Very embarrassing to even drive by the place whenever I have international visitors. Mind you, many of the old Cairns guard, who are avid theatre goers, voted for Manning as a woman should only ever be a mayoress in their mid 20th century view of the world. They sow what they reap! Choral Society is a classic example....

Anonymous said...

Your right about the Patriarch and Matriarch of the Choral Society. I saw them on the invited guest list for the Manning Council inauguration and yet it was ex Mayor Val who attended all eisteddfod competitions and finals and encouraged the arts (choral etc) constantly. Manning sent his lady or a Unity Councillor. Not the same.

ruby said...

Yes the Choral Society distinguished itself by being completely silent on the issue of the Entertainment Precinct. Yet individual members, not committee members, whinge, whine, moan and complain about the dressing rooms, the tiny stage blah blah blah. Had the committee taken a stronger advocacy role, we might have had the EP.

Anonymous said...

Let's hear it from the Choral Society -how are they feeling now with NOTHING? No CEP no new theatre nothing -does anyone have the courage to tell us how they are coping now that Val has gone?

ruby said...

Never mind the Choral Society, they used to perform at the Creswell Hall so they're used to working in tinny little boxes. It's the thousand plus kids from all over the region who attend the Eisteddfods who are missing out big time.

Anonymous said...

C'mon Bob, this city needs the CEP, we know it, you know it. The loss of this opportunity under your watch will be a an unwanted epitaph on your mayoral term. Yes, it might be Val's conception but it can be your vision which facilities it actually happening. Show leadership, God knows we need some.
