One motion sneakily moved thru Cairns Regional Council by Cr. Terry James last week was a vote to dismantle two blocks of the very popular new bicycle track built along the Esplanade - TO BE REPLACED BY MORE OCEANFRONT CARPARKS. Another expensive, unbudgeted item for the ratepayers to shoulder; this item was not on the public agenda and was agreed to despite no one having a clue how many hundred thousands of dollars it would cost. More borrowed money signed off by Bob Manning, who's looking to be the most fiscally-irresponsible Mayor for Cairns - EVER!
This is the narrowest area of the Esplanade, where walkers, bicyclists, skateboarders, and others are squeezed close together - the area where this bikepath is needed the most.
And in an ironic twist, Cr. Richie Bates, who voted "NO" was paired with Cr. Max O'Halloran today in a lame attempt to promote the national "Ride2Work Day". This event has been a big success the last few years as the previous Schier Council made long-needed investments in the city's big path infrastructure.
In the Ride2Work Cairns promotional photo, O'Halloran's skill on the bicycle is quite clear - THE DICKHEAD HAS HIS HELMET FASTENED UP BACKWARDS.
Good'onya Max. You're not fooling anyone.
