YOU'RE NOT EXACTLY DEALING WITH CHIMPS HERE. . .

A NOTE FROM THE BLOGGERS

The regular readership of this blog has almost tripled just since the last Queensland state elections - we had expected community interest to wane after the elections.  But clearly the community is concerned about the issues that WE'RE concerned about too.  This is a positive step forward.

However the blog has been under attack by those who don't hold the same regard for transparency and openness that we do.  Comments are being sent to the blog that Blind Freddie can see are designed only to enable the aggrieved to seek recriminations against the publishers.  These posts are cloaked in statements that agree with the blog, but then make statements that are likely defamatory because while we may agree, we only publish what we reasonably believe is true.

These kinds of statements have included things like

  • "Cairns has a Member of ------ fixing government contracts"
  • "----- is clearly a fraudster"

And other things like this.  Obviously we don't publish such comments.  And several of the comments have been traced back to IP addresses that tend to confirm our view that attempts are being made to set us up.

The regular readers and commenters need to ensure that they're not over the line.  It's better for all of us.

Fair enough Hillbilly. I will be on my very best behaviour from now on.

It's a measure of your effectiveness that they're out to set you up. It's a measure of their stupidity that they're so obvious.

Should HBW disappear, there are enough of us to start another blog going. We do not live in a totalitarian Stare. We have a right to know the truth, we need a place where whistle-blowers can safely come to with their concerns and we have a right to share our observations, knowledge and views. We have a right to debate, argue and resolve issues which affect us all. We also have a right to voice our objections and rage over actions which affect us and the community.
However I would agree that some of the personal attacks could be toned down again.

Damn, Jethro, I shall miss "Statler and Waldorf".

HBW

There are companies in Cairns who invested financially to secure a queensland government contract. The fact Team Wild was short listed for a multi million dollar contract when they do not have the capacity to deliver that level of service, states very clearly the tender process was not open or transparent.

David McLeod Jackson has been convicted of fraud on 2 occasions.

Please explain the modus operandi for this blog site if conveying information on the public record is an issue.

The purpose of a blog such as HBW is to make us aware of the happenings in our community that we would otherwise be ignorant of and the Michael Moore case has made us all aware of what can happen without due diligence in comments and articles posted. We are so poorly served in this town with a newspaper run by Rupert, as is our only other Queensland paper, that we need to hear the truth on the current state of our Council, State representatives as well as Federal. It has been left to organs such as HBW to give us a platform were we, the citizens of the Cairns community, can express our frustrations and sometimes anger at what we see as injustices in the local area. I would hate to see HBW afraid to speak out for us for fear of retribution and this really goes further than any "Freedom of Speech" issue.

Anon 12:47: we appreciate your sentiments, and we have no change in our commitment to report the facts as we see them. But with the Minister for the Blogosphere Warren Entsch stands up in Parliament to defame people falsely under privilege, you can appreciate we're on our guard. And when the IP address for an aggressive comment tracks back to a known political operative, we're right to be cautious. That's all.

Anonymous 12:21 is the type of poster HBW needs to be wary of, comments like, "the tender process was not open or transparent" points to illegality on someone's behalf.

This is an accusation. I had need to warn HBW last week of a similar post, accusing people of crimes.

When you do this, the burden of proof is on you, the poster, and the owner/s of this blog.

Cairnsblog is dead, Michael Moore finished, but the blame also lies at the feet of certain of his contributors, who also made unfounded allegations, he should have know better.

When this blog first got going, HBW posted all the crap the bogans sent in, all the insults, everything.

There were some of us who questioned the wisdom of that, they don't have a blog we can abuse, why were they allowed to abuse this one, it's not freedom of speech any more that if I were to walk up to you in the street and insult you.

If someone posts what is purely an insult aimed at this blog, ignore it, you don't need it, we don't need it, so fuck 'em!

There is enough proof out there that Gavin King was a massive mistake so it just about getting the facts to the people. HBW is useful for that but we need a bigger audience. He cannot be allowed another term.

So we do not really need any more juicy stories if it means exposing anyone to risk. Just need the message to get out there that is incompetant.

Anonymous 11.35, I'm still the same grumpy old curmudgeon and can still muster up the odd pithy epithet so don't you worry.

This blog is not about presenting an alternative view to the mainstream Murdoch press or Cairn's local shock Jock.
It's just a place where a dozen or so ex VAL supporters can vent their spleen.
All the rent a crowd, something to moan about losers who inhabit this site, can whine about Gavin and Bob and Warren and can-do and whatever.
As I said before ... this blog ...

Just print the unadulterated truth. It's more than enough to 'hang 'em with' and, as far as I know, it's perfectly legal (unlike the alleged emails to private addresses ... a brilliant HBW expose)

You're not wrong Hillbilly about the blog increasing its popularity. When I first started reading the blog I found no-one knew about it. Today, in any group of people wherever, I can find someone who also reads it. Well done, your efforts have paid off.

Just curious, but where is Stench these days? He has been conspicuously silent for a few weeks. Yeah I know rugnut comes back on air next Monday so it will be a tussle between Manning, King and Stench jostling away amongst themselves to dominate the LNP propaganda program. They have all had time in the absence of rugnut to invent some amazing spin to promote themselvess so they will be full of it and raring to go. Nothing excites these boyos more than talking about how great they are. However, in the meantime, what's happened to Stench?

Anon No. 4 said...

The Stench of drinking driving?

Probably down at the Cairns Post dropping off the inhabitants of his fundament.

To Anon 19:36 as the saying goes, it you don't like it, then don't read it! These forums are not about so called 'rent-a-crowds' as you call them but a place where concerned people can actually have a say - something the LNP are so trying to restrict. but as I say, if you don't like it.....

This blog is not an alternative to the 'mainstream' Murdoch press because the Murdoch press is no longer mainstream if it ever was, it is about campaigning for particular points of view, including conservative politics generally, against the 'mainstream' scientific view on climate change, and in favour of laws which weaken workers' rights.

The Murdoch press in Cairns fails to report significant items of news, such as the controversy over the Boot Camp contract, or does so only after the issue is raised in a blog. A survey of HBW and Cairnsblog will give you plenty of examples.

As for 4CA, just try to put a different view to their 'talkback' and see how you do.

And finally, while not presuming to speak for everyone on this blog, we are not ex-Val supporters, we are still Val supporters.

Whine about "can-do"?? I see "can-do" has lost his pretentious nick. Even the journos now refer to him as "no can do" or "can't do". Rumours are flying thick and fast that "no can do" might be given the flick by his own party before Easter next year. I also see where Carl Judge, MP has prepared a whole series of commercials to be aired shortly, commenting on the lack of transparency and democracy in the Queensland Government. I look forward to seeing them. Judge seems a decent man, one capable of feeling sympathy for the families and communities affected by the sheer brutality of Newman and the LNP thugs. I can't see Carl Judge sitting back saying it is "for the good of Queensland" to Doctors and Nurses who are saying that children will die now because of the extreme cutbacks to the childrens hospitals in Brisbane. Judge has a social conscience unlike his former LNP colleagues.

Vi L. Schumm, good point there man. We are STILL Val supporters and I got to say it, after all this shit which has happened this year, that Anna was better than this CAN DO shit dickhead.

Off-topic here, but this made me laugh ....

Before the election Bryan Law was spruiking King to anyone who'd listen, King was the answer, King was going to fix the place, and, most importantly, King was against opening City Place, Law's cause célèbre, now, from the CP's letters ...

"The "opening" of City Place to traffic is a pathetic small-minded idea from ideological midgets.
It's a futile waste of taxpayers money that will come back to haunt Gavin King."

So Bryan Law has finally woken up to the fact that King is, "a pathetic small-minded ideological midget".

Well done Bryan, it took you a while but you got there in the end!

This blog is the biggest thorn in the side of the conservative' boys club of Cairns, and becoming more so. The more it grows, the less relevance and influence has the Compost. And the more it grows, the more exposes will be 'leaked' to it for it's ever growing audience and participators. As for Cueball and 4CA; I think his influence in this town is grossly over-rated. The few people I know who tune in to it, are like HBW contributors; they listen just to hear what unbelievable crap will spew forth next. And listening to his regulars can be quite entertaining at times.

ruby said...

Heh heh, I saw that too Terry Pritchard, but I wondered if it really was Bryan who wrote it.

Observer,

Carl Judge has already appeared on one of the new digital tv stations with his advertisement re lack of transparency. Rumours have also been flying that Can't Do will be ousted by his own party before Xmas. Another reason to celebrate! HBW keep up the great work and as they say keep the bastards honest! Ex- Pat.

One thing to remember folks is that this blog was inspired by the actions of Mackenzie who has consistently refused to have non LNP personalities on his program and who refuses to have alternative views aired on his program as well. We live in a democracy, not a dictatorship and this blog is an expression of our democratic rights.

Anonymous said...

I wonder why people dismiss Mackenzie as "no-one listens to him" but all the LNP members, ie King, Manning, the Unity Team, Stench, Trout and so on all crowd his program. Would they all do so if they knew "no-one was listening"? Mackenzie's propaganda show is "by the LNP, for the LNP". It is a show which preaches to the converted.

BTW the 'Sch' is pronounced as in school, not as in Entsch
