We've all been told about the "secret plan" on Cairns crimefighting..
Apparently, the "secret plan" that MP Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King has been touting this past week was something called "Escalate 2", announced by the new Queensland Police Commissioner on his first visit to Cairns yesterday. (Another Newman government official giving MacKenzie talk radio the flick, we note).
"Operation Escalate 1" was run with some rubbery number of non-Cairns police, and accomplished some number of arrests and other actions that have yet to be quantified. So how is this "blitz" being accomplished this time?
Commissioner Stewart is happy to announce: "LOCAL ROSTERS WOULD BE RESHUFFLED TO TACKLE THE RENEWED BLITZ".
In other words, the suburbs will be stripped of their already inadequate police numbers as they're reassigned to the CBD for this new dog-and-pony show. During "Escalate 1", Cairns saw a spike in crime across the suburbs, with auto theft and home breakins increasing while the coppers were busy tipping on grog on the Esplanade. We predict a similar outcome this time - because there's no way any government, LNP or ALP, will reduce the number of hours spent speed-trapping drivers and using those police for real work.
On Wednesday, when Gavin King was asked by (not singing anymore Karin "Pearl" Pollard) about the now "voluntary" boot camp Cairns was promised for the burgeoning Young Crim market, King responded "we don't know yet, we haven't purchased the land". The LNP announcement said both the Cairns and Gold Coast boot camps would be operational "early 2013". Guess Gavin didn't get the memo.
But many are now questioning the increasingly bi-polar views being expressed by Gavin King. One day he's the "crime and grime are killing Cairns King, the next "Cairns is Paradise" King. We're getting dizzy trying to follow it all. . . .
But hey, "Joh Bjelke" Newman left us $175,000 so we could all learn Chinese.
That's some scary shit. Even Menzies didn't give us Japanese lessons to prepare us for an invasion.
