ADVENTURE WATERS PRONOUNCED OFFICIALLY DEAD - ANOTHER VICTIM OF CHINESE DEVELOPERS?

We've noticed the quarterly announcements by Paul "Witches and Bitches" Freebody, Managing Director of Adventure Waters P/L claiming that his $22M $28M $31M $33M $41M waterpark project seem to have stopped.

We earlier reported on the closure of the offices in the Trilogy.  And today we hear thru the grapevine that demands have been made on the company for return of $150,000 in grant money given for the development and seemingly unaccounted for by the company.  After Freebody's world-class backstab on the Queensland LNP machine when they dumped his preselection for the seat of Cairns, apparently some in the LNP haven't forgotten their divine right to "get square".

Can I get an Amen?

It's also known that Paul & Kim Freebody have listed their luxurious Koppen Terrace home for sale "by tender" with offers between $990,000 and $1,280,000.  This is substantially below the last listing for the Freebody home, which looked for offers "above $1,650,000".

The nail in the waterpark coffin seems to have come in the form of an insider at Council.  Private Council talks with Chinese investor Tony Fung on his $3B Yorkey's Knob project indicated that the Fung project will include a world-class waterpark, making the Freebody effort redundant and unnecessary.  Freebody was given this heads-up by a Council insider.

So far just the "rumours" of the Yorkey's Knob project have struck fear into the developers of an aquarium in the Cairns CBD, and now the same rumours have killed the local effort at a waterpark.

If we can get the Chinese to build a Town Square and a world-class Entertainment Precinct (likely if this is to be a world-class casino destination), we'll have little reason to upgrade the CBD as it will be superfluous to our needs.

Here's hoping everyone is brushing up on their Mandarin.

You have just made my day Hillbilly. I love a bit of intrigue and here we have it by the bucketload. In light of this inside information of yours, I suggest that we ask that brilliant Mandarin speaker from down Brissie way to come to Cairns and set up a school to educate us in the finer points of Chinese language, philosophy and culture. (He definitely needs something else to occupy his devious little mind). I hear the Chinese are building an airport a week in China so the small project that you suggest would be a breeze.

Entsch is already running with the Fung proposal as an election issue. It won't only just kill Freebody's waterpark, but also the aquarium proposal from those two fellas, forget their names, but also will most likely spell the death knell of the casino in the city. It will mean the end of Yorkeys Knob as a laid back village type suburb as well.

Jethro, a small price to pay for greed.

If Entsch is involved then it is probably just pie in the sky like his support for that bloke who was going to rescue the Marina Mirage. I think Entsch was even trying to get his hands on the CEP cash for that project.Never heard of it again...Borbidge is involved as well, so good luck with that !

Speaking of unwanted developments I see master Bates is 'shocked' that people see him as an LNP arse kisser and don't like the way he and his LNP mates are using underhanded ways to go against the community's will

I don't see Bates as an arse kisser. The whole issue of the CBD has been a vexing one for too long, ever since the 1990s when Cairns Central killed the City Place stone cold dead in a matter of days. Frankly I just want to see something finally done. Let them get on with it, once and for all.

Yeah Bates is definitely an arse kisser. Votes with Unity always and defends their decisions constantly (oh except flouride)

If the Yorkey's Knob site falls over they could try East Trinity.

Entsch always wanted to build a tunnel to East Trinity. Abbott could fund it out of his Northern Australia Food Bowl For the Asian Century white paper (read: bucket of cash for friends). Entsch of course could supply the concrete.

He could even turn any pesky crocodiles that hamper the project into shoes and handbags.

A perfect LNP plan.

Could this Chinese casino/resort/waterpark proposal for Yorkey's Knob be the reincarnation of Rainbow Harbour, a truly horrible and poorly-conceived canal-style development that was mercifully dumped unceremoniously following an avalanche of protest in the '90s?

In today's Cairns Post the WaterPark is still listed as one of the projects that is going to inject billion (YES BILLIONS, or thousands of millions as McKenzie likes to say) into Cairns. They also list the entertainment centre, even though there is no funding for it and the original aquarium project, which may be dead in the water if that casino goes ahead.

So the independents slept through the city alive workshop supporting a steering committee without so much as a mumur. Then golly shock horror it gets endorsed at the infra meeting. Your right a about masterbates though, apart from supporting fluoride, the cep and too many bloody bikeways and unions what has he done. Watch unity shaft him as soon as they get a real conservative for the division

Lets not forget entschs great idea of a mono rail thru the Daintree? and the support of marriner at mirage at port douglas with taxpayers dollars, and now abbot has all the answers for FNQ.
We are the fools if we believe this.

Just read CT online -Mr Abbott was in town apparently and he has started the old "Federal coffers are empty" mantra already, reading from Candos hymn sheet with the arrogant assumption of power after September 14. No funding for anything but the Bruce Highway. What did the Howard years do for Cairns and the Bruce Highway, Wazza -you were there, do you remember?
Ole Tony was well briefed by our State Premier wasn't he. Cairns doesn't need any funding they are all idiots up there -look who they voted in!
Vote the Mad Monk in and you get a replay of Cando and his vile slashing of jobs in Health, Education, and other essential public services. We need Federal candidates who care about Cairns and perhaps our only chance is to vote for an independent, anyone know one?

I reckon it's probably a good thing that Abbott has shit on the City Place funding, maybe by the time it comes to fruition , there will be a new Mayor with some sort of vision who can come up with an inspirational plan. This Mayor is not able to think on a large scale,he is old and had his day and seems to still regard Cairns as a big country town and appears scared to make decisions, lest he upsets his local hillbilly mates

The freebody park was always a bucket of fantasy - only the chinese have any $$$'s these days and a stand alone water park connected to nothing was going to fall over. The $3B Yorkey's project won't kill the city aquarium or the city casino - if anything it will compliment them as they are targeted for very different markets. You can't walk to Yorkey's from the bulk of our hotels in the city and our public transport stinks so why leave the city for yorkey's unless you want to gamble $1m at a time? No it will add to the activities of the city and create a bigger pie. Or does anyone really think a 2nd CBD in Smithfield will close Cairns City down ?
