In February 2012, Cummings Economics was commissioned by Brett Moller and the Chamber for Commerce and Industry Queensland (not to be confused with the Cairns Chamber of Commerce) to examine the dangers of building a theater in the potential "blast zone" from our working port.
This document has been updated showing the NEW Manning proposal to also be smack-dab in the blast zone, as will be a new hotel.
Brett Moller is now Chairman of Ports North. Let's hope he's disclosed the massive danger that a hotel this close to Wharves 4, 5, and 6 will present to the hotel and their guests.
You'll note the original site (shown in blue) that is STILL THE PROPERTY OF CAIRNS NON-REGIONAL COUNCIL AND THE PEOPLE OF CAIRNS. Bob "Sleepy" Manning has proposed one of the stupidist things ever to be proposed by a Cairns councillor.
HE WANTS TO GIVE IT BACK TO CAIRNS PORTS!
Not "negotiate" to return it, getting something of value for the Cairns ratepayers. Not to turn it into more oceanfront parkland, one of the stunning features that visitors rave about. Not to build the long-needed Cairns Regional Museum in conjunction with White's Shed.
NO, HE WANTS TO "GIFT" IT BACK TO THE PORT AUTHORITY!
What kind of sleazy deal is going on here? Is no one acting on behalf of the ratepayers? A valuable parcel (Cairns Ports took a $9M capital gain tax liability on this parcel) that the ratepayers own and these clowns want to give it away! Waterfront land in the Cairns CBD? $25M, minimum.
Forget Cairns Ports. We'll take it. If you're giving it away Bob, sign it over to "HillbillyWatch.com". We love gifts.
