POLLS, MATES, ALCOHOL, AND ANGRY VOTERS ALL POINT TO ENTSCH REELECTION ROAD A LIKELY DEAD END

Like the movie "The Thing That Wouldn't Die", Kevin Rudd slimed his way back into The Lodge and C-1 this week.  Commentators and polls now show the results - Queensland parliamentary seats up for grabs, with voters scared by Campbell Newman's performance and the fear of having a Federal Joh Bjelke Abbott continuing to gut the Queensland economy.

KRudd has often boasted of his "mateship" with Queenslanders regardless of party affiliation.  This was no more apparent than the almost instant endorsement of his Prime Ministership by Bob "We ain't got no gays HERE" Katter.

This mateship doesn't extend to Cairns-based MP and
Shadow Minister for Blogs Warren Entsch.  KRudd is known to loathe Warren Entsch, and sees Leichhardt as a winnable seat.  In an internal ALP memo sent to campaign operatives today, Entsch is one of four LNP members seen as opportunities.  In fact, Leichhardt and Entsch are at the top of the attack list.

The analysis notes the lack of any leadership in Cairns despite all levels of government being LNP in what is generally an ALP stronghold.  Entsch stood idly by as new LNP state members handed back over $100M in funding - something that no experienced pollie would ever do.

Complicating the problems facing Entsch are two other issues.  The first is that leadership in the LNP, and in fact most at Parliament House, consider Entsch a retrograde hillbilly, uneducated blowhard, and a public embarrassment.  So bad is his reputation, cabinet members have no
compunction in berating him publicly, even in the house chambers.  His reputation was massively damaged with the Michelle Rowland affair that saw him telling dodgy stories to the press as well as his own leadership.  And his drink driving arrest - well, his own party would prefer to see the bloated and sickly-looking Entsch under the bus.  Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party are not about to expend any serious effort to defend Entsch when most in their own party see him as a neanderthal embarrassment.  And Cairns voters are now questioning his inability to bring any government (OUR tax) money back to Cairns. So as KRudd and the ALP ratchet up their interest in taking back the Cairns seat, the exhausted-looking Entsch seems physically and mentally unable to mount any serious campaign before angry voters.

The second more serious issue is about to be raised by the ALP - an issue so serious, it might under normal circumstances see the member step down in favour of a new preselection process.  The Entsch swagger is about to be cut down to size, as those dudded come forward and tell their stories.  The ALP is guessing that the Entsch ego will see him "riding it out" until too late, handing the seat back to the ALP and the capable newcomer Billy Gordon.

It'd be nice hillbilly to see the back of entsch once and for all.

Stench has wriggled out of very serious allegations before: Cape York Concrete, an illegal land-grab at Mareeba, conflict of interest at East Trinity, etc etc

The only that I could think of would be one of his former young female staffers going public.

Any clues, Mr Watch?

I met Billy at Rusty's yesterday. He seems to actually know stuff about our region- this may be first for a Cairns representative. I'm much more inclined to vote for Rudd than that Abbott prick.

Jethro said...

Well said HBW. There has been a dramatic shift in the political wind with the resurrection of the Rudd factor. Abbott no longer has his trump card, ie "that red-haired woman" and he looks like a bewildered, stumbling clod without his fiery anti-Julia ranting. Rudd has taken steps to overturn some unpopular decisions by the Gillard Government which is endearing him even further with the electorate. I agree, Billy Gordon is in with a chance. Good to see the ALP maintaining their values of inclusion and endorsing an indigenous candidate. I was particularly disgusted with the way the LNP deliberately exposed the misogynistic underbelly of Australia and ruthlessly played upon it. That style of politics is frankly abhorrent and undemocratic.

ruby said...

Oh well said Jethro! Yes, Australians have joyfully reclaimed Kevin07 like a long lost cherished teddybear and Labor has surged in the polls. The LNP no longer have misogynism as their weapon of choice to bash the ALP with. Abbott isn't looking too good without his neanderthal club in hand and especially since he has refused to debate Rudd on the economy. I agree absolutely with the ALPs choice of candidate. The ALP still maintains its values of equality and inclusion. It was gut wrenching to see Julia Gillard tossed aside after all her hard work, however the ultimate goal of politics is to win office. The ALP cannot be a force for change sitting in the opposition benches!

Aw Cmon Hillbilly. Don't tease us. A few times on this blog people have claimed to have mind-blowing dirt on local pollies and it's come to nothing. The Post and McKenzie won't even mention it until it hits national headlines.

It was an undignifed end to our first ever female Prime Minister. However the LNP have used sexism as a successful weapon with which to drive out the first ever female Mayor of Cairns, the first ever female Premier and now the first ever female Prime Minister. The LNP just disgust me when they then claim they aren't stoking up the forces of misogynism and that it is all the womens fault. It's pretty typical of what some men do though, bully and abuse the woman and then blame her for it all. Yeah as ruby pointed out before in here, the female voice of the LNP has shut up big time.
So now the LNP have exposed the ugly side of Australians, of course Kevvy was going to make a triumphant comeback. He's got a tassel. Im hoping to Christ Labot gets re-elected in September of whenever because Abbott will be a repeat of Newman, only on a bigger scale. How many pubic servants did he say he will sack? 20,000 he reckoned, which in reality would probably amount to 50,000, most of whom will be female administration.

Stench must be at least 65. I reckon plain and simple he's had his turn. It's someone elses go now.

Abbot thought he could walk in on the back of disgruntled Labour voters,al la newman, now abbott will actually have to come up with policies,be a viable alternative government.Interesting days ahead ah.

I appreciate the optimistic comments here from some partisan ALP megaphones but the required 4.5% swing in Leichhardt will still be a tall ask. Even with a Rudd Revival. Not my choice but hey ....

It may be feasible but I can't yet see it in an ALP campaign too focussed on Cape York. That is not a moral judgement. The reality is that the bulk of voters are in Cairns.

It shouldn't necessarily be expected that the 'Rudd Bounce' will be sustained and the polls still favour a Coalition victory.

However when it comes to polling I have previously posted here to refer to Possum Comitatus. Poss is associated with the Together Queensland union but has today posted as below.

Perhaps he is too enthusiastic? However the demographic peculiarities of Queensland remain in play!

Queensland Rules?
http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollytics/2013/07/01/when-wholes-are-less-than-sums-of-the-parts/

Note: Possum did note in the recent Together Megapoll that Regional Qld was comparatively holding for LNP while big swings were in BNE but can't relate this to current political polling.

Dunno KitchenSlut, but I can confirm there is jubilation around the clubs and out in suburbia with Ruddy back in the chair. Yeah the same yokels who want the boat people turned back but not at the expense of another Work Choices foisted on them.

Liz said...

Bob R., that was an intelligent exptrapolation there. Yes, we often find where bullying, abusive men like to accuse their female victims as the oppressor. It's pretty damned outrageous when you see the woman with years of scars representing innumerable cigarette burns and knife wounds all over her body as well as a broken spirit. Frankly I wonder a lot about Tony Abbott and his relationship with his wife.

WTF Shanghai!
Did you say Elvis will be in the Cafe China on Wednesday eating yum cha?

Anonymous said...

Does the LNP have any policies at all apart from bashing Julia Gillard? Anything? Anyone? Huh?

KitchenSlut said...

I don't disagree Bob however my sense and past experience is that politicians in Leichhardt spending inordinate time around elections on Cape York however worthy is a curious phenomenon. I would suggest Billy would benefit from issuing more PR releases related Cairns than Cape York is all! Mind you some of the poll swings on the Cape suggest .... well lets not go there :0)

Bob R. said...

I take your point KitchenSlut. Gordon does need to spend more time campaigning in Cairns and surrounds.

ruby said...

Liz, the thought had crossed my mind too however I don't believe we should go down that path. That type of delving into private lives should be strictly taboo.

All up Entsch has been a mediocre representative achieving no real big infrastructure projects. Jim Turnour on the other hand, in his one term in office achieved the new Dental School at James Cook University, the Maritime Training Centre, the Liz Plummer Radiotherapy Centre and funding for the Southern access road, which is currenly in progress. Money poured into Leichhardt when Turnour was the representative. Entsch couldnt even be bothered lobbying for a radiotherapy centre heredespite warnings from the medical profession that country people suffering from cancer were more likely to die because of lack of radiotherapy facilities. That was left to Jim Turnour to achieve.

Abbott's popularity is tanking spectacularly now he doesn't have a woman to bash. Seems to me as if the LNP are now all in panic mode as the ALP surge in the polls. Abbott is refusing to debate Rudd on the economy which won't go down well with the punters. Moody's has just confirmed Australia as one of the few countries left in the world with a straight AAA credit rating. I now predict this will be a tight election, but Labor is looking much better.

Anonymous said...

With all due respect, Entsch wouldn't be the only MP who has been a mongrel to his staff.

Alison Alloway said...

It is extraordinary how quickly Tony Abbott's popularity has sunk and the LNP's chances of election fallen. Of course what has happened is that the LNP have fallen bodily into their own cesspit. They have spent years abusing, villifying, mocking and victimising Julia Gillard and painted her as the most evil woman in Australia for daring to oust Kevin Rudd. They spent considerable effort in portraying Rudd as an innocent victim, cruelly and unceremoniously displaced by a scheming, deceitful evil creature who killed kittens and ate babies in her spare time. They wrung their hands and beat their chests in outraged sympathy over poor Kevin Rudd. In fact, they helped Rudd regain his public image far more than any Murdoch media campaign ever could! Oh the shock jocks like Alan Jones and his incessant ranting against Julia and crocodile tears over Rudd all helped as well. The public were all stirred up with indignation and sympathy over Rudd's "treatment". (Never mind that Abbott ousted Turnbull as the LOTO). NOW that Rudd has been re-installed and Julia is in the background, the LNP are putting all their energies, ALL of it, into trying to demonise Rudd and make out Julia is the victim!! Do the LNP realise what they have done? Their campaign aganst Julia was a tremendous boost for Rudd and Australians have reclaimed him with as much affection as a long lost favorite and much cherished teddybear. And like a much loved teddybear, Australians won't let go this time.

Hear hear Alison. I just watched Sunrise this morning and there sits Julie Bishop spruiking like the fork tongued hypocrite she is, condemning Rudd for "back stabbing Australia's first ever female Prime Minister." The fool thinks we have forgotten how she was all bleeding hearts herself when Rudd was ousted and had her claws out for Julia. The LNP are in hysterical mode at the moment as Labor keeps on surging. You reap what you sow Julie Bishop.

Shit I reckon that Mirabella woman kills kittens and eats babies in her spare time.Yeah your right there Alison. The LNP have helped make Rudd more popular with the "she done him wrong" wailing and ranting. So now theyre trying to do the "he done her wrong" thing and nobody is listening. Goes to show what retards they are. Ruddy can run rings round Abbott.

John S. said...

Frankly the LNP remind me of that painting 'The Scream' at the moment. Kevin07 is roaring back as Kevin13 and Labor is whizzing up the polls. All I can say is UP YOURS Tony Abbott.

jim-bob jnr said...

Gavin King would now be the highest earning State Member for Cairns ever. Yet what has he achieved? Nothing but lost us over $100 million in funding. Fucken greedy self-serving arsehole. Good point there Alison above about Ruddy. Thank Christ hes back.I feel better now I tell you.

Jim-bob jnr you seem to forget that that failed journo now a so called pollie put up a no smoking sign at the hospital.Come on,give the "man" credit,he is earning his outrageous pay rise.

Fortunately McKenzie is back and is keeping us well informed. Today's "show" was about crocs, crocs, CROCS !!! some "expert" came in to justify the massive pay rises fro MP's and blamed it on Anna Bligh. Yes, it was the previous government's fault. Apart from that the city of Cairns is under siege by tens of thousands of man-eating crocodiles and bats. Sounds like the radio man is suffering from delerium tremens, bats, bats, bats everywhere...The local members wisely stayed out of sight. How could they possibly justify their massive pay rises while performing so poorly.

PB said...

Good analysis there Alison as per usual. The LNP have in all probability, fatally clubbed themselves to death with the same big stick of sexism they took to Julia Gillard. They weren't looking at the consequences.

jim-bob jnr said...

Oh shit yeah, the no smoking sign at the Hospital. Yeah fucken good one King you moron. Now all the smokers are either up at the bloody taxi rank or over at the skateboarders ramp watching the kids there while dragging and coughing away on their cancer sticks right in front of the kids. Next we will have the parents screaming about it. Then you see some smokers going into the public toilets there, fucken good one alright when they have to go back to their sterile hospital beds isn't it after walking through all the shit on the floor in there?. Then you got to wait while some old fella dragging a drip behind him crawls across the pedestrian crossing with a speed of like one fucken centimetre an hour. Yeah fucken good one King you fucktard. Ever think the solution mighthave been to have a smoking area somewhere in the hospital grounds? Sheeeesh. we're paying you close to two hundred thousand dollars a year for all of this crap.

Quite obviously the point of sexist abuse is to make a man look good. Abbott miscalculated badly on this one. Rudd was the one who was made to look good.

You're all so mean and cruel to me. You don't take on Trouty or whatzisname from Cook do you? NO! You just pick on little old me. Why shouldn't I have a $50,000 increase anyway? It's all Anna Blighs fault you know. She froze parliamentary salaries for several years. Did it help her get re-elected? Bwah hahahaha. Goes to show what a stupid bitch she was and how well rid of her we are. Besides we have the money in the Treasury now to pay ourselves whatever we want, so there! Suck on that you pinkos and greens! As for smoking at the hospital. It was the single biggest issue facing the hospital and I solved it for them. In fact I have had people post on my facebook page that I have done far more for Cairns and the hospital in the short time I have been elected than any of the other Labor members over the decades. So there, that's what people think of my hard work in resolving the smoking issue. You people must have hair for brains if you think that KRUDDY can do the hat trick of being re-elected as Prime Minister. I mean he back-stabbed the first ever female Prime Minister of this country. You say you're all for women's rights. Well what hypocrisy. The LNP never indulge in such lowbrow behaviour as sexism and misogynism.
Toodlepips for now, except for ruby the dog and Liz the lezzo old harridan. You got to learn to shut the splitforks up Hillbilly if you want to be taken seriously. Got to run and have my chest waxed!

LNP could change laws so they could sack thousands of public servants, but couldn't change laws to stop giving themselves a pay rise. Now the Mayor & local Councillors are getting a pay rise as well. People we need to get off our arses and protest loudly and aggressively, we cannot let shit like this keep happening.

Anonymous said...

Well Gawain you hairless little maggot, lets all hope you end up with lots of infected ingrain hair after your "waxing".
Dunno about you lot in here but Im not writing off Tony Abbott yet. He's on an electoral roll with "turning the boats back". Nah, we know he can't do it, but the redneck and bogan voter only listen to catch phrases and the like. Howard was successful with his giant lie "children overboard" and "weapons of mass destruction". Lies work well especially if they appeal to the Aussie voters sense of prejudice. Abbott knows this and he is going to repeat his bullshit about being able to "turn the boats back" over and over ad nauseum. As people in this forum have pointed out again and again, it isn't what politicians DO that counts its that they are SEEN to be doing something, even if that is just talking loads of nonsense about it. It impresses the hell out of voters.

Bob R. said...

I reckon that is really King himself writing there under the nom de plume of Gawain Bling. It sounds just too much like him to possibly be anyone else.

Warren Entsch should do the right thing by the Electorate of Leichhardt, Queensland, Australia and the LNP and retire.

Jethro said...

Entsch is all about looking after Entsch. He knows he has the full support of the local and national media machine. He knows the media are keeping silent on the LNPs policies such as introducing a new version of WorkChoices, abolishing Medicare, mass sackings in the public service, cutting the dole after six months and attacking aged care services. He knows the "turn back the boats" bullshit has immense appeal to the dull minded voter, ditto "axe he carbon tax" so he will campaign on these. He also knows the value of misogynism so will use the neanderthals' woman bashing club to satisfy the rednecks out there. Lastly he will use scarmongering tactics of the national debt which will scare the shit out of the less informed as per usual. Like many others in the LNP Entsch is money hungry. He doesnt need the money and he is at the retirement age of at least 65. However like Manning, the more money he has the more he wants. Like Manning, he is well past his use by date in the community and nothing more than an ageing shell of bullshit, piss and wind, but, with the full support and complicity of the media machine, he has been given an easy, well protected ride. Why wouldn't he want to go again?
