ELECTRICITY PRICES - ONE OF THE MOST SERIOUS ISSUES FACING AUSTRALIA - POLLIES IGNORE DIFFICULT ISSUES

Electricity is the lifeblood of a modern economy.

Decades of inaction and the lack of any comprehensive energy policy among our state and federal politicians is strangling the Australian economy.

AUSTRALIA HAS AMONG THE VERY HIGHEST ELECTRICITY PRICES IN THE WORLD.

AND NO ONE HAS A CLUE WHY.
WHERE IS ALL OUR MONEY GOING?

We have our own coal and natural gas.  We ship this coal and gas to China and Japan, who produce and sell this electricity at HALF what we pay!

We have a fairly compact population (92% within 30km of the coastline).

  • CANADA  .128¢ kWh    ERGON (CAIRNS)  .221¢ kWh
  • USA      .101¢ kWh      ENERGY AUS (NSW) .244¢ kWh
  • CHINA      .092¢ kWh    GERMANY  .142¢ kWh

AND DESPITE AUSTRALIANS PAYING AMONG THE HIGHEST PRICES IN THE
WORLD, OUR COAL POWER PLANTS ARE ALSO THE DIRTIEST.
CLEARLYTHE OWNERS OF THESE PLANTS AREN'T
INVESTING IN THEIR OPERATIONS.

Electricity prices are now strangling Australian retail, strangling Australian manufacturing, and standing on the neck of Australian consumers.

And still we have no energy policy.  Shame on the ALP!  Shame on the LNP!

Pretty obvious Queenslanders don't care or are too stupid. Look at the cretin running the place and his efforts to penalise those who are trying to develop more sustainable means of electricity generation. They aint a COALition party for nothing!

It's why we should go NUCLEAR !!!

I agree, it should be a priority for all political parties.

We do know that half our electricity bill is made up with network costs, ie poles and wires. We also know that solar feed-in tariffs are costing a lot as well.
Another area that is causing increases is the dividend's that state governments are ripping out of state run generators

I agree with you HBW. It is an indictment on both our major political parties. Good on you for raising this.

It looks like everyone has swallowed the LNP lie that this country is in dire straights. We have a triple rated, low tax, low debt, low unemployment Australia and our economy is running along nicely. Let's have some positivity!

Infrastructure is fucked for starters , 10 ergon blokes at a site and one in bucket ???? As a sparky the extras they get paid are outrageous , privatise , simple .

I pay $65 a fortnight to Ergon and sometimes get a small bill, the last 2 bills both in excess of over $250 on top of what I have already paid,I am not doing anything different, in fact I have restricted use, I am not getting anything extra. Corporation (Government) greed at it's finest. You might think that you are free and independent, but you are OWNED,We are the CASH-COW, the GRAVY_TRAIN. Liars and thieves at every turn, sad :(

Anyone who supports nuclear energy...knowing that we cant safely store the waste, is a bloody idot. I hvae gotten to be a grumpy old fart and no longer tolerate idiots. I hope those with that lack of intelligence go to sleep permanently, as we surely do not want that kind of thinking , with the world in all its stages of upheaval. That is just gross ignorance and stupidity. You have to get your heads out of your collective arses and realise that the ground we stand on, is far more important than bits of paper with pictures of the queen on it.
