Cairns Mayor Bob "Sleepy" Manning beamed with pride yesterday as he posed for pictures to promote Cairns Festival.
And Manning's "signature event" has residents reeling!
It's called "FIELDS OF FIRE", and it's said to "reignite our agricultural past in a traditional cane burn supported by a raft of family friendly activities"
So the Cairns nonRegional Council and MP Gavin "Don't Rape Me" King stripped the festival of the biggest international event, the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, while adding an event dedicated to arson and air pollution.
"Family-friendly", to be sure.
The Canegrowers Australia proudly reports that the industry has turned away from the polluting blazes. And they understand that the cane fire was a dangerous practice, with frequent occasions where they "got away". The fires have been discontinued as farmers embraced green farming.
And the event is being held at the Yorkey's Knob site of Blazing Saddles, the Trout-family owned tourist operation. Likely where you'll be able to meet the Member for Barron River along with his two criminally-convicted brothers who are often on site to pass along their "family-friendly" tips on heavy equipment acquisition.
