SERIOUS ETHICAL QUESTIONS ALREADY UNDER INVESTIGATION IN YORKEY'S KNOB LAND DEAL WITH TONY FUNG

What a beautiful sight!  This is the North Queensland grandeur that greets visitors to Cairns should they choose horseback riding as one of their activities.

This is Blazing Saddles, just one of the Trout-family owned tourism destinations around Cairns.

Immediately adjacent to the 350+ hectare site of the Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort.

According to the map shown on the Blazing Saddles website, the Trout family would see their operation become part of the Aquis project.  We don't believe the Blazing Saddles map is correct, however.

Current Member for Barron River Michael "Hide the Backhoe" Trout has filed a Member's disclosure with the Parliament.  In it, he acknowledges a financial interest in "Blazing Saddles Adventures", although it is believed this site is leased.  So what kind of massive conflict of interest is being ignored by the Joh Bjelke Newman government in Michael Trout's "negotiations" with Aquis principal Tony Feng?

Or has the gutting of the Crime and Misconduct Tribunal rendered any financial malfeasance by a Member of the Queensland Parliament OK?  It's unclear if Fung is aware of the criminal history of Trout brothers Steven & Luke.  Luke is seen regularly by patrons of Blazing Saddles.

But this is nothing compared to the situation surrounding former Member for Barron River Martin Tenni.  Everyone in Cairns is well aware of Tenni, his disturbing verbal racial attacks, and other irrational behaviour.

Tenni called the Cueball radio show on Friday, to prop up his mate Bob "Sleepy" Manning.  But then Tenni starts unabashedly taking credit for the project himself.  He says:

"Now I've been involved in that for, well, from word go.  I did the negotiating with the land and everything out there, for Tony."

"I've also negotiated with Michael Trout, and Michael Trout has really played a major role in this. . "

"The reason I think why I got involved was the main holder of the main area of land has been a personal friend of mine for, I suppose, 55 - 60 years. (Francesco Pappalardo)  And he asked me to get involved, and help him out.  And I met Tony, and had breakfast aboard his ship one day"

So Martin Tenni has admitted and acknowledged negotiating a land sale, apparently representing BOTH SIDES in the transaction, without a real estate licence of any kind!

Tenni's alleged work in real estate was brought to our attention previously, during the destruction of the Rex Theater for which real estate agent Robert Smith was found guilty earlier this year.  Tenni has been advertised as the "agent" for several properties.

No licence of any kind for Martin Tenni to act as an estate agent is shown with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading.  The only agent Tenni is a "Jodie Sue Tenni".

CHECK HERE

Nothing like getting a project off the ground with the maximum amount of self-dealing as possible.  The "North Queensland Style".  Don't let anyone tell you our Queensland pollies can't go toe-to-toe with the Chinese - at least when it comes to filling their own pockets.

More soon. . . .

For those who lived here in the '80s, under the corrupt develop-or-be-damned administration of the National Party government, recent developments have a disturbing deja vu feel, almost as if the ghost of Russ Hinze were hovering overhead.

Thank God we will shortly have Abbott to lead us.

Along with Newman and Manning this wonderful development will happen.

Than God that awful Bilgh Covernmaent has gone.

Any special family of green frogs that inhabit this area will not no,w stop this progress.

Jobs for our children.
Keep them in Cairns.

What a wonderful opportunity this development is for far north Queensland.

Bob R, I second your compliment. Where's the "investigative reporting" at the Cairns Post, or ANYWHERE ELSE? The Compost had a three sentence "bio" on Tony Fung, HBW did a proper job. And now look at this story today - funny, you didn't hear MacKenzie congratulating Michael Trout for the "good fortune" of having their horse paddock in Yorkey's. It's obviously off-limits.

And the Tenni stuff? Few would have any problem believing that Tenni would play both sides in favour of his own pocket. Nice "mate", hey Pappalardo? 55 years and he sticks it in your arse to make a quid.

Bill S. (anonymous 19:49), you really hate green frogs, don't you...you made the same comment on McKenzies crap program a while ago. How about "Black Adders" ?

I have a feeling that in a few years time we will see a program about this whole saga on 4 Corners. With that sort of money going around, you can be guaranteed that there will be plenty of dodgy dealings. While the ALP is hardly squeaky lean in that regards, the QLD LNP has some serious form when it comes to corruption.

I wonder just who has made their dough on this deal?

Interesting to read on Gavin King's facebook site, where he claims he and Michael Trout "have been working hard on this for a long time." So with the evidence of their own bragging, King, Trout and Tenni have all been in this together "for some time". Nice to know isn't it? That your members of parliament have been negotiating in secret with billionaires about the development of a huge tract of land which will change forever the landscape and social fabric of a city. Nice to know too that these members of parliament have been "fast tracking" this huge development in secret. Even nicer is it to know that at least one of those members of parliament will make a nice tidy sum out of it all. No wonder they kept it all quiet.
We're seeing the return of the Bjelke Petersen style corruption all over again.

Follow the money and all will be revealed sooner or later. LNP politicians just can't help themselves. Watch out for brown paper bags!

Bob R. said...

So now we know why Tenni and his LNP cohorts launched the most vicious, reprehensible personal attack on Val Schier EVER seen in this city. Mackenzie carried the baton for them, ripping it into Schier on the Monday following her election and he kept at it until the day of the election three years later. (Tenni and King have confirmed themselves that this Fung proposal has been under discussion for many years.) We all said on HBW that a lot of money was at stake. We all knew damned well that there was a secret agenda and skulduggery behind the vicious opposition to Schier.
Well now we know, don't we?
Schier's Entertainment Precinct contained extensions to the existing Convention Centre and linked it up to a new performing arts theatre. Tony Fung's development contains two performing arts theatres and conventions centres. The question begs whether he would have proceeded knowing that the city was building its own facilities in that regard. Second, the Entertainment Precinct as presented by the Schier Council, was an iconic building in its own right, one which would have showcased Cairns on the international scene. Tony Fung most likely wouldn't want anything to compete with his "vision".
Hence, had the Entertainment Precinct gone ahead, Tony Fung may well have withdrawn his proposal.
Lastly, the Schier Council may not have approved this massive development and, like the Taylor Point development, been tied up in the Local Government courts for years.
It all makes sense now. The good people of Cairns have been done over like a dogs turd and won't get much out of this monstrosity out at Yorkeys Knob beyond jobs in the building stage. Fung has got 1800 "staff accommodation rooms" on the complex which sure as all hell won't be for Aussie workers.
The complex will monopolise the Chinese tourist trade, there can be no question about that. Fung wouldn't be spending such a huge sum of money if he wasn't planning on dominating the coming Chinese tourist boom.
Local tourist operators may get a few crumbs if they are lucky.
Well, to sum up. Game, set and match to Tenni, Trout, King, Mackenzie, Manning and the LNP boyos. They have cunningly done Cairns like a dog's turd. You bet some will make a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$ after which they will, of course, piss off somewhere for a nice cosy retirement.

Can someone (HBW?) provide the dates that fung bought this property and the date that Trout bought his property. There is a lot of comment about this being the reason that Scheir was pilloried and the entertainment precinct rubbished. This would also answer the questions about Trouts behaviour in this.

Seth said...

Neatly summed up there Bob R. Our own Entertainment Precinct, owned and operated by the people of Cairns as a city asset, as presented by Val Schier, would have seen the money spread around the region. People coming to attend shows and conventions would have stayed at any of the hotels, motels and accommodation places in either Cairns or the surrounding region. People would have eaten at the many restaurants in the city or region. Our LOCAL ownership of the Entertainment Precinct would have GUARANTEED that tourist monies would have been spread around. Tony Fung's privately owned proposal will in fact lock in those tourist dollars, to his own complex and his own profits. People attending conventions out there at his convention centre in his complex won't want to come back into the city for a meal. Neither will they want to have accommodation in the city. People attending stage shows or musical shows out at his complex won't want to have dinner in the city or stay overnight in the city either.
Val Schier's Entertainment Precinct was meant to provide a boost for local operators, Tony Fung's enormous development will see him dominate the Chinese, convention and arts tourist trade and make him more money. We have been done over like a dogs turd.

John S. said...

The Aquis Resort will do to the regional tourist industry what Cairns Central did to the Cairns Central Business District - deliver it a major body blow. Fung's huge complex will siphon off the Chinese tourists, the Asian tourists, the convention trade and all the tourism which shows and musicals bring. Wonder how the local tourist operators feel now? To think it was all being negotiated by local LNP politicians in secret and now being fast tracked by the LNP government. Frankly Trout, King and Tenni have just shat on the local tourist industry.

Trouts Blazing Saddles just appeared out of the blue. Was there approval by CRC or was it a case of LNP's usual "just do it mate and we'll cover up for you in Council". Can any CRC employee out there give us the dope on this issue?

Wake up to yourselves you people. This is Cairns, you're all talking about. The City of Fools. It will take a long time, a bloody long time before people wake up to the fact they have been scammed (again). We are going to see people all hysterical over the Fung proposal, led on by Mackenzie, King, Trout, Entsh, Manning and company. They will all sell it like it is all our Christmasses rolled into one great bloody shindig of wealth, prosperity and paradise for all forever. Yeah we've all died and gone to heaven. Entsch will trumpet it to the moon and back during the coming Federal Election hinting that he had a deciding role in the negotiations. There will be an incessant chant of jobs, jobs, jobs and more jobs. Oh the excitement will be built, the expectations of wealth will be rammed down peoples throats. Then once it is up and running reality will hit hard. Then and only then when the local convention centre is dead, the local hotel trade falls, tour operators lose custom, only then will the whinging and whining start. So for the moment all we will hear is that the Golden Moment of Cairns has come. God has delivered us a Miracle. Praise be to the enablers of our salvation, Tenni, King, Trout, Entsch, Manning and Mackenzie. The people of Cairns will for the foreseeable future regard them all as demi Gods. You know I'm right.

And the whole "waterfront land needed for future port expansion" was just a ruse to distract the punters from what really was going on over in YK all these years. Murdoch is trying to get rid of Rudd because the NBN competes with his Foxtel ventures. The Schier council had to be ousted because of the commercial interests of the LNP in Cairns. What a corrupt world we live in. Well, we all knew it would come to light sooner or later and that the opposition to the CEP was motivated by something other than concerns about rates. One consolation; Tenni won't live long enough to enjoy the fruits of his labour, King won't be re-elected and McKenzie is on his last legs...

Bus.Op. said...

Wonder what the local tourist operators think about it all? Were they consulted? Like hell we were. Yeah, it's real nice finding out that this has been in negotiation for some years IN SECRET. So much for the LNPs claim for "open and transparent" government. Wonder what else they are negotiating in secret? Personally I couldn't give a shit any more.

Emma Chisit said...

It just shows how naive our local LNP pollies are! The fact that they are now boasting about this project which has been in the pipeline for "years" confirms others concerns that Val was given such a hard time for a very special reason -masses of money for the chosen few. I love a good conspiracy theory especially when it turns out to be true. The sad thing is the public were sucked into voting for these (now possibly) corrupt bastards.

jim-bob jnr said...

What gets me is that no bastard was consulted about this. It was all done sneakily behind peoples backs and the fucken slimy LNP politicians were all in the know. Jesus H. fucken Christ, look at it. Its the biggest bloody tourist complex we've ever had built here. Its the fucken Taj Mahal of Australia that's what it bloody is. You would think that the residents who live at Yorkeys Knob would have been consulted? But they weren't even given the courtesy of a hint. You would think that all the big tour operators here would have been consulted but I bet they weren't. We've all been left in the dark until it is too late. Typical of the sneaky sly underhand way the LNP operate.

Tegan said...

My Mum reckons Mr Fung wouldn't be spending all this $4 billion to make a loss. He would be planning to make a profit by getting himself all the tourists to go out to his resort. My Mum reckons it is just too big and wont offer a fair competitin to the other hotels and resorts and will take money away from our casino in the city and the convention center in the city too. I think my Mum is right she's always been pretty cluey. We have friends who live at Yorkeys and they are very upset at the moment but don't know what they can do about it.

Bob R. said...

Anonymous 08.59, the Entertainment Precinct was deliberately, and with cold calculation, sabotaged and scuttled. Make no mistake about it. There was a concerted, planned strategy to kill it dead. I believe it was deliberately done not only to improve the chances of Fung's development being approved, but also to ensure that Fung didn't back away if he found that the city itself was building an Iconic Structure with extended convention facilities and a state of the art modern theatre. Secondly, Schier as Mayor may well have rejected the Fung proposal, hence the LNP went all out to depose her and replace her with a compliant Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Entsch owns property in YK as well... this stinks to high heaven.

Anonymous said...

"naïve" isn't the word Emma Chisit to describe our local LNP politicians. King has admitted knowing about this Fung development on his facebook site and said it has been in the pipeline for years. He admits Trout knew about it and Tenni has also confirmed he and Trout have been working on negotiations for years. They are not "naïve" Emma Chisit. They have not been "open and transparent". They have not been "consultative". They joined in with the opposition to the locally owned Entertainment Precinct with the full knowledge of the Fung proposal. They have demonstrated they are cunning, sly and secretive. "naïve", my arse!

Heard an interesting story this morning about the sale of the cane farms- there is a clause that if development doesn't start in a certain period of time, the farms go back to their owners with extra millions thrown in for their inconvenience. The plot thickens!

Anonymous said...

Cairns has a history of big announcements and then nothing eventuates so i would not get too excited by this announcement just yet. Remember there is an election around the corner and this type of tactic is not unknown. Still i would like to know when this actually started , ie when did fung buy this property. Many people are saying this is why the cep was quashed but if this was bought after Val was tipped out of office we are barking up the wrong tree. Can anyone throw some light on this question.

Anonymous said...

Gee whiz - you half dozen supporters are all using your various non-de-plumes to get at this development.

However, the rest of Cairn,s 170,000 people, are really looking forward to all the benefits this resort will bring.

Bring t on Mr Feng - bring it on!

Anonymous said...

I just had a gander at the comments on The Cairns Post online site regarding the AQUIS Resort. Looks like it has divided the community, yet the bogan element is already well sucked in, chanting jobs jobs jobs. They wouldn't have spotted the workers accommodation at the resort and made any deduction from it, of course.

Anonymous said...

Bus -op.I wouldn't worry about this development affecting local tourist jobs. The facility is being built as a self contained facility.Chinese tourists will only have to leave to go out onto the reef on Chinese owned vessels. The Japanese did pretty much the same with Green Is.Even had their own"funny money"Tourists who stay there will only venture out under strict control. The Chinese government likes their citizens to go to places they(the government) has virtually approved. The staff will be flown in as they will speak Mandarin, food will be flown in from Chinese farms etc.The whole thing is a big yawn.

Bob R. said...

Anonymous 14.19, what guaranteed benefits will this bring to everyone? Hey? Can you name them?

jim-bob snr said...

Anonymous 12.15, this Fung proposal has been in the pipeline for a couple of years as confirmed by Martin Tenni. It hasn't just sprung up overnight.
I think someone should do a titles historical search of all land purchased by Fung to see who has made the dinero on this and think about just who else is going to make a killing with the development.

Bus. Op. said...

Anonymous 17.50, yeah I agree. It looks like it will be entirely self contained and self sufficient. While King and Mackenzie will fire up the mugs around town with "jobs, jobs, jobs" and untold riches for all, Fung is only in the business to make money for himself and his corporation. We've already spent our ratepayers money sending old fool Manning off to China to "secure flights to Cairns" so Fung will have his tourists. So once they all arrive here in their tens of thousands, they will be shuttled off to AQUIS at its newly named suburb. There the tens of thousands of Chinese will stay in Fung's hotels, eat at his restaurants, watch shows in his theatres, see sport in his stadiums, lose their money in his casino, go on tours organised by his company. And all the profits go back to Fung. Yeah I can see Fung buying up things like Skyrail, a bus company, a couple of boats for the reef tours. Yeah I guess a few people will make some dough off him but after the complex is built, it won't be many.
Yeah, one reason why the Chinese Communist Government won't have casinos on the Chinese mainland is the nasty baggage attached to Asian casinos like the triads. I dare say they will make their appearance in due course and start their bullying tactics especially when they want to monopolise some segment of the tourist industry. The imbeciles of Cairns don't know what is going to hit them.
Frankly, as I said before, I don't give a shit.

John S. said...

Tegan, your Mum is one smart cookie alright. Damned right the Aquis Resort will syphon off convention trade away from the current Cairns Convention Centre, and trade from the current Casino. Restaurants and hotels in the central business district will lose the patronage of convention attendees big time. Fung will want his obscenely expensive resort full to capacity as much as he can so he will embark on a very aggressive marketing campaign here. Local businesses will find it hard to compete. I predict quite a few businesses will go under as a result of this. Fung has the money and capacity to start monopolising many facets of the tourist trade here in the Far North. I can't see him stopping at the AQUIS.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Australia has ever had any experience with the triads. Anyone???

Anonymous said...

Dunno Anonymous 21.02. I think most of that experience would have been in Sydney or Melbourne. However I suspect North Queensland is about to get lucky and have its own experiences. Whacko the diddlyoh. Aren't we the lucky ones?

Tony Hillier said...

Stereotypical intro in today's Compost: The $4.2 billion Yorkeys Knob mega-resort is likely to supercharge visitor expenditure in the region by almost $2 billion a year, while generating thousands of jobs.

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil!

Bob R. said...

I see where Gavin King is now calling for a "mature debate" on the project. Once again King can't keep his nose out of other peoples business. This should be Trout's call, after all Yorkeys Knob is in the electorate of Barron River. Frankly I would welcome a lengthy community discussion. There is a bloody lot to discuss.

Anonymous said...

This development may just tip the Yorkeys population just enough to get a pharmacy after all.

Anonymous said...

"Mature debate" means you have to agree with King or you'll be branded a socialist Greenie dole bludger by one of the brain dead members of his fan club. i think we need to have a good look if any of the politicians involved in setting up this deal will benefit personally from it. We should also find out how far back this whole thing is going. if it coincides with the virulent campaign against Val Schier and the CEP, more questions need to be asked. Finally, anything that Tenni is involved in would have been a Hinze style operation. These people don't know any other way to do business.

The very fact that there are artists drawings of the complex already is indicative that this proposal has been out there for some time. There isn't any question that certain men in Cairns knew about it when Schier was Mayor. I believe the fear was that should Schier have been re-elected as Mayor, she may well have quashed the proposal at Local Government level.

Anonymous said...

Not just men Bill, but a certain former female deputy major or ran to spoil Val's chances. What a miserable, nasty, bitter old bat!

Anonymous said...

The deputy mayor, a LNP member, had been undermining Schier from day one. It will all come out in the wash one day.Obviously this is the missing link that explain what really was bend the hate campaign against Val.

Anonymous said...

At the least with Val Schier as Mayor, the public were consulted on every development i.e. open Council Meetings, including demonstrations where she spoke with truth and conviction. Have yet to hear old Bob Manning speak with any ounce of conviction or truth. He just mumbles along with what the LNP what him to say. Sad Cairns - Hobart is looking better all the time!

Here's another article on " Cairns Lifestyle". I don't really like the tone of this site. There is also a bullshit article about air condition being indespensible :"The Cairns M suburbs are densely populated with housing commission rental properties, and due to the presence of this demographic these suburbs should be considered a write off. Violence and crime are common in these suburbs and I do not recommend them for worthy for rent or purchase.

Perhaps over time with gentrification, these suburbs will change, however, due to a lower class demographic and the constant occurrences of crime, violence and drug and alcohol abuse, this will be a long and turbulent road before these Cairns M suburbs are deemed “livable” to the common members of public".

Anonymous said...

Ohhhh what snot sucking snobbery and wanking fantasy. I live in an "M" suburb and am not an alcoholic, drug addict and have never had any dealings with the police in my life. I look after my house, pay my rates, and regard myself as a normal member of society. Whoever wrote that shit in Cairns Lifestyle should get off their arse and go and talk with some of us who live in the "M" subuurbs instead of sitting there wanking away.

Have a look at that site. It is full of shit like that. Disgraceful comment and generalisation about the 3 M suburbs. McKenzie would have approved. I'm surprised they didn't use the "N" word when talking about "demographics"...
