On or about 30 August the following indictment was laid:
- One Count of Trafficking in Dangerous Drugs
- Three Counts of Possession of Dangerous Drugs
- Three Counts of Possessing paraphernalia related to Pt. 2
- Two Counts of Producing Dangerous Drugs
- One Count of Drug manufacturing paraphernalia
The Cairns Post did run a story about cannabis being flown from South Australia via Brisbane to Cairns, with one local man charged. But the indictment presented in the Supreme Court seems to be from a different incident altogether, a far more serious incident that has apparently been given the spike.
The indicted? Steven James Trout. A man with a long criminal history including jail time for drug offences, who's currently under a four year good behaviour bond for his infamous "backhoe" theft in 2009. A Trout family member routinely seen at the family's Blazing Saddles tourist attraction at Fung's Knob.
Will the Member for Barron River's first boot camp include his own brother?
Well, with Steven James Trout the father of six children and the son of pastoral rancher Peter Trout, it would seem he's a poster boy for boot camp failure.
Given the high level of secrecy surrounding this arrest we continue to await further details from those "inside" the system. This shouldn't be a factor however - open reporting of court proceedings is a fundamental right in a free democratic society. It's somehow looking to be subverted in this case.
Mr. Trout of course is entitled to the presumption of innocence, as are all those charged but untried. A status that often eludes Cueball MacKenzie.
More soon. . . .
