CAIRNS HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AS unSIR BOB NORMAN AURALLY FELLATES MACKENZIE EXPLAINING HIS 180 DEGREE SPIN ON EDMONTON HOSPITAL

LNP poodle unSIR Bob Norman has thrown the entire Cairns community under the bus this week as he placidly agrees to
CAIRNS VOTER REGRETTING HER
SUPPORT OF CAMPBELL NEWMAN AT
LAST ELECTION
abandon any hospital facilities in the fast-growing southern suburbs of Cairns - as ordered by his LNP Brisbane mates.  In the stunning announcement, we learn that we were lied-to by the ALP as well - told the Edmonton site for a future hospital would be purchased with money from the Cairns Airport privatisation, but instead we now discover that all we did is resume the land and give the owner a token deposit.  Cairns residents get lied to by all the pollies, left AND right.

Norman claims Cairns won't need additional medical facilities "until the population reaches 400k or 500k people".  Apparently he hasn't listened to his mate, Minister for Blogs Warren Entsch, who has visions of Cairns at 500,000 in 20 years!  With Cairns locked in to only one access route from the fast-growing south to the CBD and the existing hospital, Norman will need to explain this stupidity in the future.

This as the doctors prepare to resign en masse, disinclined to sign contracts that allow one party (the LNP) to change them at will.  Not much of a contract provision, and one feared to open the door for full hospital privatisation.

Norman's also proposed a cost-saving move that's breathtaking in its racial bias.  He's proposed that kidney dialysis patients in Yarrabah receive their periodic treatments without even the presence of a registered nurse.  Instead Norman plans to use TAFE-trained health care workers at the Gurriny Yealamucka facility in Yarrabah, almost an hour from Cairns Hospital should an emergency occur.

Sure, let's do cost-cutting experiments on our indigenous population in a place that votes ALP anyway.  Under the bus they go!

Kidney failures are closely tied to the generally poor health of our indigenous population, including the high incidence of Type-2 diabetes.

All of this on top of the news (unreported by the Cairns Post) that the Cairns Hospital has been serving tainted meat to patients who already are sick.  Perhaps the Norman-ordered switch from beef to skippy was part of this problem, too.

The loss of the south side hospital site is especially troublesome when you understand that eventually, the Cairns Hospital sitting at sea level will most assuredly be flooded and heavily damaged during a weather event.  Guaranteed.  Cairns has had now two golden opportunities to move this disaster waiting to happen, and we can thank John MacKenzie for this callous disregard of facts.

Norman meanwhile continues to use his LNP mates to push thru pocket-lining measures at the Cairns nonRegional Council.  Pilebridge Pty. Ltd. has gotten access to a landlocked development site via a Council-owned road for a "tip" of $55,531 (including GST).  Suddenly a virtually worthless piece of land is now worth. . . .millions?  unSir Bob Norman is allegedly the director of Pilebridge.

Meanwhile, the money-strapped Queensland Government (led by Treasurer Tim "The Sky is Falling" Nicholls), has unveiled their latest tunnel boondoggle gift for Brisbane, in part from the taxpayers of Far North Queensland.  We certainly want these city folk to be comfortable!  Welcome, the $5 billion dollar "BAT" Tunnel!

Politicians of all persuasions continue to serve their own interests and those of their party bosses, the puppeteers. They are, with depressingly few exceptions, lying, conniving, mealy-mouthed, two-faced sons (and daughters) of you-know-whats. Far North Queensland is going backwards at an alarming rate, courtesy of the current crew of cream-faced loons.

Off the subject but when you get rid of most of the mosquito control unit for CRC (2 left from 5) leaving them unable to respond to Dengue or struggle to respond to rate payers concerns re mosquitoes and you sack 140 other plus staff without the burdon of finding the money for redundancy payments, obviously as he stated today by Manning you can save 6 million. The trick for a good manager is to save the budget without ruining lives. Now please print this HBW and I will put you on my Christmas card list.

It is common for dialysis patients to have no nurse when having treatment. In fact home dialysis is the preferred method for many patients. There are home dialysis patients throughout Cape York and at Yarrabah. The machines are bought and maintained by Queensland Health and it is better than traveling to hospital for treatment.

The ward at CBH that is responsible for Peritoneal Dialysis is closing in 8 weeks time. The hospital board claims that the ward be merged with another ward in the new building.
The truth is that there will be a net loss of about 20 beds once this happens. What's more few staff on the new ward will have extensive experience with Peritoneal Dialysis. Given the extreme financial burden any form of Dialysis places on the health system, maybe the plan is to kill these patients off?

Yeah, we've all heard the latest news about the doctors and their contracts. Newman the dictator Hitler is going to bring us in overseas doctors. So who is going to train them and who are they going to train? Newman doesn't give a stuff about us Queenslanders only his own ego and getting his own way. Dictator!

Trumour at Cairns Hospital is that the HACC program (Home and Aged Care) is soon to be axed too.

Fact Check:

Not sure where Entsch is getting the figure of "Cairns Population 500,000 within 20 years comes from."

Thought I would do a little checking....

Sounds like he is pulling these figures directly from his arse to me!!!

Latest 2013 Population Projection figures issued by the Queensland Government in the last two weeks predict
Cairns City (LGA) (excluding Douglas shire now)to increase from 150,992 in 2011 to 225,006 in 2031 (a 20 year range)

Even if you include a wider area that encompasses from Cardwell in the south to Tablelands - Croydon in the west, Douglas LGA, Cape York, Cairns City and Torres Strait inclusive), an area formally known as the 'Far North Statistical Division', you get the following population figures,
2011 - 264,405 to 360,795 in 2031

So much for 500,000 population in 20 years.

Just where is Entsch getting his figures and what geographical boundaries is he using to arrive at such figures??? Is he including Townsville in this and if so, why??

The Cairns HHS basically services the area of the FNQ SD so in terms of health services, you would not want to include other areas outside of this?

The doctors contract issue has reached crisis point. In todays Cairns Post, it states that over 100 hundred doctors at the Cairns Hospital are preparing to resign. Newman is still saying he can recruit doctors from overseas and other States. It takes time and effort to obtain overseas doctors, but Newman doesn't seem to worry that if all of this eventuates, Queensland will be left with an inadequate public hospital system for months or even years. There can be only one outcome. Many Queenslanders will die.

TAFE-trained health care workers will do a fine job. Many Aboriginal people struggle to finish university level studies.
It is more important to have Indigenous people involved in primary health care. The QNU is full of shit!

Ginger TheRedHeeler said...

Anonymous 12:06. So Aboriginal people should get substandard medical care as long as the person giving the treatment is the right colour? I totally agree that health workers do a great job and having Aboriginal people work in primary health is important but not at the cost of patients dying. You want more Aboriginal medical professionals? How about getting the State government to fund programs which offer the necessary assistance so Aboriginal people no longer struggle to finish university studies?

Anna Bligh warned Queenslanders about Campbell Newman during the last election. Queenslanders ignored all the warnings, so ultimately it is Queenslanders who take the full blame if we end up with no doctors left in our public hospitals. People need to understand that they cannot disengage from politics or take the view of the ignoramus that "they are all the same."

Anonymous said...

There is a very clever political commentator who's name escapes me Mick who said after the QLD election then the federal election;quote,"It appears the voting public didn't so much vote for the LNP in QLD or the conservatives in Canberra as much as they had Labour on the nose and had no one else to vote for. In other words people had to vote for someone and pigs would fly before they gave it to Labour. How many people honestly knew Abbots or Newmans policies. You up in the back corner put your hand down, that Newman badge on your lapel says everything.the end

Doctors get silenced through the contracts then nurses and then teachers and then

Newman wants control through silence and fear

Cairns doctors: call their bluff.
If doctors stick together and stick to their guns and follow through with their planned en masse resignations, Newman and Springborg will capitulate.
There is no interstate/overseas pool of doctors ready to fill the breach in the time frame required. And under these circumstances, what doctor would want to.
In the meantime people would die - and that would become a health disaster from which Newman and the LNP would never recover.
Call them on this one, you can't lose.

Seth said...

I agree TAS, however what is horrific is that Newman and Springborg would know that many people would die, yet they are still threatening the doctors. Anna Bligh warned Queenslanders over and over about Campbell Newman. Yes, Anonymous 17.49, how many people did know what Newman and Abbott were going to do? They were very big on criticising Labor and even bigger on ridiculing our female Prime Minister and female Premier, but said little of their own policies.

Anonymous said...

The Doctors would be charged with criminal negligence if people died because of their actions. The government has nothing to fear and the Doctors have everything to lose.

Alison Alloway said...

TAS, I agree. The consequences of losing our Senior Medical Officers and specialists from all Queensland hospitals, would be disastrous. White Lady Funerals and other funeral businesses would do a roaring trade of dead Queenslanders. Women would die in childbirth, babies would die, cancer patients would die needlessly, stroke, heart attack, burst appendix, aneurysms, car accidents, on and on. Junior doctors need training and just cannot cope with all of these emergencies without the necessary training. Overseas doctors have to go through a rigorous process before being allowed to practise in our hospitals. Of course Newman may want to abolish all of these processes as well. Newman is playing with the lives of Queenslanders. On another issue, reports are coming through on social media that two Queensland hospitals have now started charging fees for services, including treatments for cancer patients.

Bob R. said...

Mick Wow, you ask how the hell did this fucken dictator Newman get elected? Cast your bloody mind back mate and think of the way people carried on when Bligh sold off part of the railways and the Brisbane ports. The left wing unions were out there yelling and carrying on and even campaigned against the Bligh government in the election without any fucken thought of the consequences. So here we are now with thousands of people lost their jobs, the cost of living has jacked up more assets have been sold off and we are facing a health system with practically no doctors. There are some fucken dickheads in the Labor Party, dickheads who get carried away on the spur of the moment get all caught up in one single bloody issue that it carries off their bloody heads and brains. If they had been more intelligent they would have understood that a Labor government despite its faults is still better than a Tory government any day. In fact one fuck of a lot better. But perhaps the only way you can drive that truth home to those idiots is if they or their families have to die because theres no fucken specialists left in our hospitals.
Yeah I hope they are all happy with what they did.

Angry said...

I wouldnt underestimate the callousness and cunning of the LNP TAS. Im tipping Newman will use the doctors stand off to call a snap election during which the Murdoch media machine will escalate their smear campaign against the doctors. Once the LNP are returned to government the shit will really hit the fan. The hospitals will be left without adequate medical staffing and the funeral parlours and crematoriums will all be doing a roaring trade. The Queensland yokel will think he can just mosey along to NSW or Victoria for medical treatment without any thought that those States may refuse to treat Queenslanders because of the strain on their own systems. But of course the wealthy will just fly overseas for treatment.

Anonymous said...

Silence and fear the new man way. will the voters stop this arrogance or make it worse for all.

the same can be said at the local government level, the old man and his sidekick

Alison Alloway said...

I hope to God, Angry, that it doesn't come to that. Yet the recent advertisement placed by the Newman Government in Sunday's Courier Mail clearly illustrates the government has moved into an attack position, portraying doctors as the enemy and publicly slandering their probity. This is unprecedented behaviour by a government towards our public health system doctors! I read where even more senior medical officers have handed in their resignations as a direct result of the government's bullying. God help us all. We are in the hands of a government of callous thugs.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Alison callous thugs. I remember the state forcibly amalgamating Douglas with Cairns, promising to look after the Daintree when the buyback and protections were in place and then not doing it, introducing stupid, ineffective and costly liquor laws that had no effect and the whole time saying to stakeholders 'we don't care what you think'. lets not even discuss spending gazillions on Cook Highway hillsides while the bodies piled up on the bad corners. OH WAIT that was Bligh and O'Brien...silly me!

Alison Alloway said...

When a government is deliberately prepared to put the lives of thousands of Queenslanders at risk; when a government slanders and impugns the reputations of our public doctors; when a government treats not only its citizens with callous indifference but also its most highly trained professionals with such contempt, it is a government of callous thugs.

Liz said...

Anonymous 12.42, you're more than silly, you're a raving lunatic. How could any rational person dare to compare the amalgamation of Douglas and Cairns councils with the widespread loss of life, the suffering and misery which will happen across Queensland if all our public health doctors walk out? Alison is right. Queensland is in the grip of callous, self-serving thugs, the like of which we have never seen here in this State. This is the most serious terrifying stand-off in our states history. I'm in allied health by the way.

Alison Alloway said...

Thanks Liz. This stand-off between the doctors and the Newman Government is the greatest crisis this State has ever faced. By comparison, every other issue just fades away into non-important argey bargey. Newman and Springborg are putting the lives and public health of Queensland in grave jeopardy. They cannot be allowed to sanction State mass murder, because that is the only outcome if they don't back down or arrive at a mutually agreeable solution with the doctors. It is just as morally wrong to sit back and say, "Oh well, the LNP will commit suicide if they go ahead." How could any normal person take gratification from the needless and senseless deaths of innocents? The very thought of some woman dying in childbirth after a long and arduous labour, just reduces me to tears. The thought of a dear little baby born with deformities who dies because of lack of specialist surgeons, also reduces me to tears. How about a fireman, covered in second and third degree burns, who cannot get specialist medical attention to save his life because there are no specialists left? What about a carload of people who are critically injured in a car accident, who will all die because there are no specialists left in the public health system?
The consequences if this stand-off is not resolved, is just so terrible in its legacy of needless pain and suffering and deaths, and yes, as I have pointed out, the resurfacing of major contagions, that nobody of sound mind could gain any political satisfaction from it.

Well said Alison. I see where more specialists have resigned including a renown airways specialist in Brisbane. I have also been reading this morning where the young registrars at the Cairns Hospital have been pleading their case on Gavin King's facebook site. King has been arrogantly and loftily dismissing their fears as "hysterical". Meanwhile I also note where professional employment sites are warning doctors against working in Queensland Health. We are now seeing a disaster unfolding. Frankly, I am wondering if Springborg, Newman and King are of sound mind.

Alison - front page of yesterday's Cairns Post, by-line re "misdiagnosis" told the story of a patient who attended Cairns Hospital recently with acute abdo pain. They did a scan and told the patient that all was well.

A few month's later, the same pt represented this time with abdominal swelling and again acute pain.

Second time around the patient was diagnosed with inoperable primary liver cancer and the patient is now in palliative care.

When you drastically cut staff to the bone placing existing staff under tremendous pressure, take short cuts on processes that were designed originally to protect patients and to provide good quality care, then you force patients to leave hospital before they are clinically well because you need the beds, and you fail to do post surgical followup as a way of cutting clinic wait times and money, then introduce a medical contract system that forces doctors to resign over conditions (and note NOT pay), and then hire medicos from overseas on 457 Visas who can hardly speak English, we can all expect and be guaranteed more of these sorts of headlines going into the future.

All this hysteria makes me want to puke. Yes it does. Just because a few commie doctors think they know it all and dont want to listen to anyone. We are in the midst of the greatest most awesome reforms of our hospital system in decades and you would think people would be grateful to our efforts and the awesome work that Lawrence Springborg is doing. Truly, the Borg is the greatest health minister this State has ever seen. But no. There is all this pathetic carrying on about people needlessly dying. I mean, is it MY fault if people want to up and die? I'm sick and tired of having junior doctors whinging in my ear as well about who is going to supervise them. I mean what the hell did they go to university for? I didn't need any supervision after I left university and look at me now? Awesome. Yet all we get is whinge, whinge, whinge and hysterics. You all ought to be grateful too that Tones has brought back our Imperial Honours system and I know I am in line one day for a Knighthood. Now that is really awesome. I'm already practising saying it in front of the mirror. The Right Honourable, Sir Gawain Bling. Awesome! What an awesome honour for Cairns it will be. That will show all the people who say I haven't done anything for Cairns. Yes you'll all be eating your own mean words when I get Knighted. Toodle pip for now.
