Cairns Post readership (and sales) have tanked the last couple years. It's no wonder they've decided to apply a "hillbilly sales technique" trying to get more papers sold. Wonder how long these $8/week subscribers stick around after they get their $50 of beee-yah money.

Just reading the ole facebook this morning and I see where King has made a right royal jackass of himself over these doctors contracts that Newman wants them to sign. Christ I laughed hey. Yeah I don't buy the old compost anymore either. I get the news now from online and listen to ABC radio.

Looks like the compost is getting desperate.

I don't care who reads the Cairns Post but PLEASE don't pay for it - that will only encourage the clowns.

Ever known media that doesn't get regular lambasting? Actually, the Cairns Post figures are far better than most newspapers - circulation, readership, advertising and profit contribution. Sure, the CP has faults, but then most other newspapers have more faults, and I write that as an ex General Manager of several major newspapers. Now, about some of the content on Cairns Hillbilly Watch .......... throwing stones in glass houses etc.

Cairns Post sales have collapsed by more than 20% in the past 12 months according to Roy Morgan's Newspaper Audit. Even this offer wouldn't entice me to glance at it sideways. What a useless rag!

I have read the Cairns Post nearly every day it has been printed since I was about 16. I'm now over 70 and I am seriously thinking of cancelling. I enjoy reading the political things that are happening locally, in our State and Federally. Since the last State and Federal Election I'm not getting anythingf with theeth. No investigative journalism locally and nothing of local interest politically. It's as thought they are protecting KIng and Manning when everyone knows they are failing. Seriously I'm going to cancel the Compost. It's not a local daily anyone more. I just found a great paper in Mareeba the "Independent". It is well worth reading as there are plenty of local stories telling us how it really is.

My wife who listens to Mackenzie (why why )never has to buy the CP because mackenzie reads a lot of it's content on air. As for buying the Saturday edition, well if one takes out the ads, car guide(if one is looking for a car)other "slip ins" all that is left is rehashed news from the week before. What is left even after that is a heap of paper for the mulcher!.

McKenzie spends an hour every morning selectively reading the newspapers. I suppose there is a limit to how much time you can let cranky old blokes waffle on on air about their problems. There is plenty of time set aside for LNP propaganda and greenie bashing though, lots of annoying ads and advertorials, some crap music and that's it. The Compost is nothing more than an advertising rag for cars , real estate and whores, lots of whores. The online version is practically identical to the Courier Mail, which has become another LNP propaganda tool.

Those considering cancelling their Compost subscriptions or not buying it anymore should be aware that there will be a price rise from $1-20 to $1-30 effective Monday 17 March. This of course is why they are cynically running their crocodollar competition at this particular time

Ah the newspaper is in decline as more and more people look online for news, including perusing the fabulous "Guardian".
