No single Cairns resident has made more fuck-ups, pissed off more people, and gotten more deserved bad press than this former Cairns City Councillor, the "born again" Paul Freebody.
Can we have an Amen?
He's back AGAIN in today's Cairns Post, his company Felhope Pty. Ltd, again spruiking the
Let's review Felhope P/L, shall we?
Owner of the local Toyworld, a well-known story around town suggests the city slickers from Toys R' Us snookered businessman Paul out of his toy shack.
Then the Freebodys (Ms. Good Christian Wife Kim set up a "we hate Val Schier" page on Facebook) decided to conquer the car wash market in Cairns. Claiming they had "heavily researched" the business in the USA, this Felhope project has been another dud. Unfortunately, a $5 car wash in the USA using cheap labour doesn't work in Australia where the minimum wage is pushing $17/hour, and the market for $30 car washes in Manunda is painfully small. Numerous attempts to sell the dud business to others has proven to be unsuccessful and trouble-ridden.
Then after being ousted as Cairns City Councillor by 21 year old Kirsten Lesina (his campaign featuring handbills with misspellings, grammatical errors, and other dodgy English), Freebody announced the Adventure Waters project in late 2008. And while other more appropriate (and out of the flood plain) sites were offered to him, he asked council for development approval on the current illogical and carpark short location. When council declined to approve the project, he famously got on Cueball's radio show and screamed and snarled at the council, calling the female councillors "witches and bitches".
Can we get another Amen??
NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE INVESTORS: IS THIS THE KIND OF MENTAL STABILITY AND CLEAR-HEADED DECISION-MAKING YOU WANT IN A BUSINESS PARTNER ???
After negotiation with council and other adjacent property holders, Felhope Pty Ltd received a development approval in 2009. Then said "negotiations almost complete". More bullshit.
Freebody claimed the project would be finished in 2009, then mid-2010, then early 2011. When even MacKenzie wouldn't promote the failed project any longer, Freebody decided that he should be the LNP candidate for the Queensland Parliamentary Seat of Cairns. What else does a failure do? Run for another government job!
His preselection for this seat went over like a lead balloon, with even Warren Entsch telling voters to give Freebody a pass. And as predicted, Paul Freebody's marginal grasp on reality quickly gave way, with Freebody sending emails around Australia advocating the "JFK solution" for Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
As LNP and public anger at the idiotic email exploded, Freebody first claimed the email was "doctored", then in a stunning reversal claimed one of his kids did it! Yes, that's right, he threw one of his own kids under the bus!
Can we have an "Amen"!
The LNP expelled Freebody from the party, but not without first having an LNP meeting bugged by the sleazy Freebody who then released the recording, claiming to be bullied by Can-Do Newman. DOWNLOAD HERE
NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE INVESTORS: A BUSINESS PARTNER THAT BLAMES HIS KIDS FOR PERSONAL FAILURES, AND THAT SECRETLY BUGS PRIVATE MEETINGS - IS THIS THE KIND OF NORTH QUEENSLAND CHRISTIAN INVESTMENT EXPERIENCE YOU WERE HOPING FOR???
In October 2011, Paul Freebody famously begged the media "Please Leave Me Alone". Until today, when he's laughably trying to get this unwanted project over the line. Again. Yawn.
In today's New Testament chapter of Adventure Waters, Freebody sez his now $41M project is back on, claiming he's "secured the backing of two banks". While this may theoretically be true, it's irrelevant as any bank is going to want substantial investor equity before lending on unmarketable waterpark equipment. Likely 50-60% equity, or $20-25M from private investors, according to Cairns bankers. And these are investors that are no where to be found. Today's story is just more Felhope fluff. Yawn. We've heard it all before, Paul. You're a laughingstock.
So then two weeks ago Freebody tweaks the media into another round of promotion by claiming he would have been finished except for the fact that Ergon is dragging their feet. Perhaps Ergon doesn't like the idea of dropping a hundred thousand dollars of equipment into an area known to flood.
And then when Ergon stops laughing at this Freebody foolishness, Freebody claims the project is getting "a rethink" because of the Aquis development, which he suggests will benefit by a 30% increase in guests. However the project still sits on a two-small site that was approved with inadequate parking the first time.
The Freebody brood, Nathan, Trent, and Daniel all have exited Cairns for the Caloundra area - the excitement of the car wash business apparently overwhelming for them. And Paul's Facebook page is replete with his misspellings, grammatical errors, and general nastiness.
Give me an Amen! And pass the Jesus Fish.
