AMERICAN BRAD MADER! WTF!
So deep was the criticism last year, "The Color Run" isn't coming back to Cairns this year. But like all good Utah-Mormon scams, they've got a backup plan, and in this case a backup scam organisation.
Enter "Color Me Rad".
"Color Me Rad" by all reports is a group that is substituted for The Color Run when a community "gets wise" to the scam. The Cairns public should be proud - while we lost almost half a million dollars that could have gone a long way if donated directly to local charities, we learned earlier this year that "The Color Run" wouldn't be coming back.
Like all good Yank scams, this one is also headquartered in Salt Lake City Utah, just down the road from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as the Mormons. This "religion" has about as much to do with Jesus Christ as Color Me Rad has to do with charity.
The state of Utah has the highest rate of affinity fraud in America. A US newspaper called Utah "the test market for scams". And the most fruitful of them get exported, with Australia being seen as a prime location for "The Color Run", and "Color Me Rad".
The Charity being promoted with the Cairns Color Me Rad run is the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland - who have not responded to our requests for information regarding this sponsorship. Neither has Color Me Rad, but no surprise there.
Some comments on Color Me Rad from around the 'net.
BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
Various news organisations have estimated the actual cost of the event at between $21,000 and $27,000, about 7% of the total. With less than this going to the charity, this leaves over $350,000 PROFIT for Color Me Rad!

CLEARLY OBVIOUS US PASSPORT
Ironically, the owners of "The Color Run" and "Color Me Rad", all originally acquaintances, are now suing each other for cutting into each other's gravy train. I would guess a bigger percentage of the race fee is spent on lawyers than on charity!
If the community wants to have proper 5K charity runs, the boards of Cairns Charities need to get off their arse and organise them. If they don't, Cairns will continue to be easy pickings for American scammers who have only their own Mercs and Ferraris in mind.
