NEW CHINA SERVICE BYPASSES CAIRNS - AGAIN! CAIRNS AIRPORT MANAGEMENT LED BY MILLIONAIRE KEVIN BROWN ABJECT FAILURES

Here's a headline that you WON'T see in the Cairns Post:

Kevin Brown, Bob "Sleepy" Manning, and other so-called tourism leaders have taken junket after junket to Mainland China.  All focused on getting our share of the Chinese tourism ¥uan.

Chinese OUTBOUND tourism exceeds 100 MILLION people this year.

Think about it.  100 MILLION.  Five times the entire population of Australia.

Cairns received less than 220,000 Chinese tourists last year.

.25%

Even Guam, our US neighbour in the Pacific, received 450,000 Chinese last year.

So the headline above is a shock when we find that permanent flights from Shanghai to Brisbane have now been snagged by the management at Brisbane Airport.

What are they doing that Kevin Brown (on $500K/year), his (now on stress leave) "Aeronautical Manager" on $250K/year haven't been able to do??

CAPTURE AIRLINE ROUTES THAT ARE GOOD FOR THE BRISBANE/GOLD COAST TOURISM INDUSTRY!

It's time the whole Cairns Airport staff are sacked.  They're stealing from Cairns.  Their non-performance is hurting is all, far more than a few cruise ships.

Not sure Cairns appeals to Chinese. When all the Chinese were flocking to Sydney and other capitals in the 90's the Japanese were flocking to Cairns but not to Sydney. China has vast landscapes and nature.

WTF did you say Shanghai, fuck the cruise ships, fuck the Japs Cairns doesn't need them. Oh that's right we have the ALP looking after us all, our problems are solved.

Can somebody please calculate how much money has been spent on Brown and Antonsons salaries, travel expenses and other perks over the past 5 years and then calculate how much new airline business they have brought in and see it they have been worth the enormous outlay? I think you would be shocked. And I think the Board members of NQA must be complete morons to have kept this duo for so long. Why couldn't Cairns have snagged Lyell Strambi as CAPL CEO? A proper mover and shaker who would run a real business, not some tight arse Scot who ponces around in poofy shirts pretending to be something he isn't - a decent CEO! Brown is known to be a protector of crap management and he blows off anybody who is half decent, he palmed one employee from Antonsons department off to Darwin, an opposition airport, and that employee is kicking goals and bringing in moolah for the NT instead of Cairns. Another one of Antonsons team in Brisbane who is also a top performer is about to jump ship. Makes you wonder why a supposedly competent CEO would allow this to happen, why he would not back his good people, but instead he just weakly allows Antonson to be protected by him while she travels the world producing......nothing. And don't forget their are many other whispers coming out of the offices of CAPL that would make your hair turn silver, seems that not all is well or happy within his united team, the place is leaking like an Indonesian fishing boat. C'mon Mr Brown it's time to take yourself, your Mercedes and your silly striped shirts back to Scotland where you belong.

You said it bob.r, Cairns Post is a biased load of shit rag that is only good for wiping your as on. Kevin brown needs to go. Brown is so desperate to make money that now he doesn't even replace much needed staff when they leave, just so he can save a few pennies. And what is the result of all his other grandiose plans for NQA? Heaps of new airlines, a freight hub, purchase more airports, put a petrol station on airport road, a shopping precinct on top of The general aviation area? Nothing. Haha. More dreams and fantasy. All he produces is hot air. He really should be in politics, talk talk talk but produces nothing, not a thing. I wonder how his plebs feel knowing he is earning over half a million dollars per year including bonuses, has his house paid for including all utilities, Mercedes is paid for, kids schooling is paid for. Somebody please put baldy on an international flight (do any fly out of Cairns anymore?) and get him out of here ASAP.

your facts are right we only get 220 thousand Chinese tourists a year that's great be proud that's 1.5 of our population not counting everyone else does 3 million Chinese go to Brisbane no they don't just think during Chinese year our population swells 10% in 2 weeks cairns managers quiet well ? and port Douglas helps heaps as well cans a small hick town in fnq punches above our weight and we haven't broached agriculture as well sometimes we should all work together and get the job done and stop worrying about the credit for fuck sake and grow up

Allegedly Cairns Airport have been too busy trying to sue Betta Airport parking who own the domain name "cairnsairportparking.com.au" in a dispute about the rightful ownership of the domain name. Sadly Cairns Aiport lost and had to pay legal costs.

Geoff Holland said...

In my view Hillbilly Watch and the commentators here are not much different from Bob Manning, Kevin Brown, and the rest of the Grow-at-any-Cost crew.

It is mindless development. I prefer intelligent, intentional development. What industries and businesses are compatible with the longterm futures of Cairns?

Why do we still pile all our eggs in the Tourism basket?

Would Jim Brooks, if he is elected Mayor, also be preoccupied with maximising flights, ships and Chinese to Cairns?

How about focussing on training and upgrading skills and creating employment pathways of our unemployed? How about assisting more people own their own homes? How about focussing on small business development?

Do we think that the profits of tourism really trickle down to the grassroots in Cairns? Didn't happen in the "Japanese boom" and won't happen in the "Chinese boom".

Anonymous said...

Ha ha ha, well done Brown. Yet another failure. How much did those legal fees cost you Kevin? Will the Board take that out of your bonus? What a bunch of bullies, trying to push a local small business under. Seems Brown and friends were too stupid to register the business name first, dumbasses, they deserve to lose. How much longer do we have to put up with him?

"ochhh yeh ned mo moneh in de barnk" (thanks kev)fuck off....

Apparently they have hired a full time person to deal with the huge rise in customer complaints. An inside source reckons equipment is constantly breaking down such as carpark stuff cos no money is being spent. Everything is cut cut cut so that Brown and his puppet masters at Hastings and J.P Morgan can all pocket profits and bonuses. What an absolute bunch of tools.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the problem is that Mr Brown, Ward and Antonson are all Eurpoean imports who have brought in their overseas methods that simply don't work in an area like Cairns? I mean the way Brown dresses pretty much sums up his lack of understanding of the region compared to his precious places of employment. Also I believe that Cairns airport is his first gig as a CEO, he came here with management experience but not CEO experience. Seems to me he would be better off suited as just the manager of airport lawn mowing or something like that! But I guess even then he would flog off all the mowers or not budget money to fix them.

Anonymous said...

I fucken hate chinnees. Why they haveta come hear.

I do not know much about Brown and am not in a position to judge and that is part of the problem as well. Privatization means we have no say and nor can we criticise officially. The stakeholders are not the people of Cairns so if we want things done different we need another airport. I recall we gave like 8 million to Silk Air and China Eastern so are subsidizing the airport operations. Privatization does not work at all.

So did anyone go to the reclaim rally to see whether they recognised any of the racist rednecks before they crawl back under their rocks?

Bob R. said...

Tony Hillier, a lot of those fluff pieces written on the business page are recycled ones. I keep on reading the same story over and over about a new mine about to open up near Georgetown. I reckon the editor there at the compost just keeps a heap of the same stories filed away and just reprints them over and over perhaps changing a name here and there.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately a lot of this problem is not that of Mr Brown or our Mayor, They have been doing what they should trying to entice overseas airlines into Cairns. As I see it there are two problems. 1. The Federal Government Aviation Policy 2. Lack of Money to offer airlines to fly to Cairns.
1. The Federal Government should alter their Aviation Policy so that overseas airlines flying into Australia should be required to fly into a Regional Airport such as Cairns before they are given approval to fly into Sydney, Brisbane , Melbourne and Perth. These airports are all busting at their seams as every airline only wants to fly into these cities. Cairns does not have a cerfew so they could fly into Cairns in the very easrly morning and then fly to the airports in the eastern states landing when their cerfew is lifted.
2. Cairns really needs to put in place a tourism levy just like the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast tourism Association raises about $14 million with their tourism levy which is why they get so many sdouth east asian flights into the Gold Coast. The flights are subsudised and are very succesful for their tourism. WE have a heap more attractions than the Gold Coast and until we all agree to introduce a subsidy then we will continue to lag behind all other airports. Unfortunately I can't see anyone in Cairns with the guts to promote a tourism levy. Mackenzie and his cronies would never support it so we will continue to play second fiddle.

Charlie.

Very true Bob R. The Compost recycles the same bullshit articles when things are quiet (which is very often in this boring city). The Compost likes to talk things up like Aquis, new Ports, a robust airport, mining about to ramp up and how Cairns is soon to become a mega city! All bullshit, all hype, all a dream. If the place was so good why have house prices plummeted in the past 6 months, shouldn't they be going up instead?
As for the airport, it is a third world shithole. You have to walk for miles to board your plane when it is pissing down with rain and stinking hot, the international terminal inside looks like a 1980's picture theatre and the outside is covered in faded, falling apart blue panels, a true eyesore. And what is wrong with the domestic baggage collection area, it always smells like raw sewerage in there, it's like walking through a third world airport as it always stinks like shit. No wonder his name is a Kevin BROWN.

Bob R. said...

Christ it must be about fucken time we heard of AQUIS again in the compost. Got to keep the rednecks and retards in Cairns all excitedly shitting themselves thinking about Chinese megabucks.

Much more importantly, where is Air Asia? It's more important that any Chinese airline?

Well said Bob R, well said. Morons waiting for the 'green light' on Aquis. It hinges on Tony Dung-fung getting enough backers, and with the failing Chinese economy all I can say is good luck. Speaking of gambling, I'm willing to bet $50 that on at least one occasion this week Kevin Brown will wear a gay looking colourful striped business shirt, Warren Enema will eat at least 4 greasy hamburgers while sitting on his fat white arse in his office, and Sleepy Manning will fall asleep 6 times during meetings! Yes indeed, Cairns, the retards of the north!

Tony Hillier said...

This city desperately needs a transfusion of progressive thinking young blood to drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st century and rid it of its small-town mentality.

Hamish Krint said...

Tony, young blood is important, but so is experience - a decision making body like Council needs a balance of both. And seniors can still be young at heart and progressively-minded - I remember a school inspector saying to a teacher - do you have 20 years' experience or one year repeated 20 times! I fear that when the analogy is transferred to some of our local government representatives and industry leaders, it is the latter. Cairns means many things to many people - again, we need to consider a balance of activities - for those who see it as a retirement haven, so be it; for those who want employment for their children to keep them as a family unit, there needs to be opportunities; for those who love the tourist side, let's think of ways to enhance it. For example, why don't Skyrail offer Kuranda/Tablelands residents a subsidised monthly ticket to get to and from Cairns, using the many empty cabins? It's a win-win - more loot for Skyrail, and less traffic and more safety on the Kuranda Cairns road. I'm sure a citizens' think-tank would come up with many ideas, not all necessarily appropriate or practical, but what the hell - let's do some creative thinking. From my observations, at least in the reported media, there are too many big-wigs pushing too few constructive and realistic ideas.....

Apparently Reader's meds hadn't kicked in when he wrote this, otherwise he'd realise his spelling is shit and it was his own state LNP pinup party and supporters that stalled this project for so long in the first place with stories of zombie cows marrying ducks because of the noise etc..

"Reader" (aka Karl Kobler of Mooroobool) is one of those tiresome LNP hacks who praises anything the LNP does, hates everything the ALP does and blames the " greenies" for everything else, regardless of the issue. I think like so many in Cairns he still hasn't recovered from the LNP wipe- out and the demotion of Tony Abbot. Once Manning gets the boot, who knows what he'll do. He is also a regular on the McKenzie show and as a typical contributor to that show is allowed to bleat on endlessly. Actually Macca did pull him up once, when he blamed dog attacks on the victims. Unfortunately it his his type that still dominates what goes for political debate in Cairns.

Must say, I took a trip back in time to when Kevin Brown had more hair, and read this article;
http://www.hillbillywatch.com/2013/11/cairns-airport-management-found-to-be.html?m=1

Well, not much has changed since then. Brown is still there and so are his team of executive tools. A couple of good mid level managers were screwed and left or were punted, orchestrated by the top tier of drongos. The place is still chaotic and uncontrollable, new blood comes and goes (all at the lower level) and the airport still deteriorates. GA is being forced out, the airport is outdated and bonuses are all that motivates Brown. The good news is that it looks like we have him permanently as he just splashed out and bought a mansion. Perhaps he will send a flyer to all us residents thanking us for putting up with him so that he can live a luxuriant life due to his huge salary and bonuses by cutting the place to the bone and meeting his puppet masters demands? The morale is abysmal, attitudes abhorrent and the amount of gossip, knifing and and scaremongering is disgraceful. How Brown can shaft GA so that he can convert the area into a shopping mall that will be built on top of polluted soil caused by fire fighting foam is beyond me. Why hasn't anyone from CAPL been held accountable for that cyclists death? Isn't there an issue with commercial retailers trading illegally? Why hasn't any of Browns grandiose development plans come to fruition for years? What about the rumour about the Baron being polluted from airport runoff or some shit? Oh well, I can't wait to fly out on Sunday because after I pay his airport parking charges I will enter the terminal and go and piss all over the toilet seats. Might even souvenir a few rolls of that cheap one ply shit paper they make us public use. Brown, go home. This is Australia, we don't want you here.

Anonymous said...

That is some funny shit Annon 21:49. I have a proposition for baldys airport; the international terminal is always empty so why not set up indoor cricket nets? It will earn Kevin some revenue and he just loves making money. I mean you have to use all the empty space and lack of international flights for something useful. Better still would be a cyclone wiping out the outdated grotesque eyesore of a terminal. It is truly tragic. The decor looks like a scene out of boogy nights, an old porno

Anonymous said...

Sounds to me like 'Brown by name/Brown by nature' hasn't been managing responsibly

Anonymous said...

The CAPL have advertised for a terminal manager. Does that mean that Kevin Brown-stain is bringing over another one of his imports that will be on $230k to $250k? He certainly remunerates his friends very well. However I'm not so sure there is much value for money between the three of them.

Anonymous said...

So another rumour this week is that millionaire Brown will leave next year. And numerous minions are jockeying for his job. Now we all know that old mate Brown is an easy replacement, but the thought of one of his ridiculous footstools taking over is the biggest laugh of the year! I mean what a selection on offer, you have a loud obnoxious plastic surgery abuser, another wannabe with a giant arse and bad skin, a little dweeb with little man syndrome and a couple of other Neville nobody's who couldn't jag a decent job outside Cairns if their lives were dependant on it. Oh too funny, just way too funny.

Recently, and supposedly for fund raising, Kevin Brown did a catwalk strut wearing ladies high heels!!! He looked the part, very sexy in high heels is Kevin! Almost natural! He and some of his Lieutenants were paranoid and were writing down people's names who watched the nauseating display, banning Mobiles from the room also. Those high heels sure do match his shirts! Maybe next year to raise money for the airport management bonuses he will wear high heels (again) and one of those embarrassing 'can I help you' vests around the domestic terminal (which always smells like poo) or around the international terminal (1970's repulsive decore)?

Anonymous said...

Sexy boy Kevin in ladies high heels, wtf. Rumour has it he walked quite well in them.

Anonymous said...

Do all JP Morgan minions where high heels? Perhaps he is androgynous?

Anonymous said...

I heard that Brown might be good at managing upwards and dazzling his board but he is useless at managing downwards and controlling the people below him. Either way it is being well talked about in local circles that all is not well at CAPL. And that is not good news to hear when the region needs strong leadership and capability during times such as this.

Anonymous said...

I do recall some years ago an enthusiastic Marcella being very excited about the Edinturd MD taking up his first role as a CEO at NQA. One of Kevin's early statements went like this; Looking forward to the challenge ahead, Brown said: "I am very keen to be on the ground in Cairns and Mackay, to meet the teams at each airport, to get to know and become a part of the airport community and the wider local community". Oh please, somebody get me a vomit bag. Part of the community you say Kevin? I don't see you flying at the back of the plane with the bulk of the community
Kevin? I don't see you driving a shitbox Hyundai like the majority of the community Kevin? I do however see you Poncing around in a brand new Mercedes Benz, Kevin. I don't see you aligning your outrageous salary with the rest of the communities shitty average, Kevin? From where I sit I've watched restructures and sackings instigated from your office. And you call that 'being part of the community' Kevin? You have brought in massive fee rises for general aviation, you have massively jacked up car park costs for the public peasants and you have tried to litigate against small businesses offering a counter service, and that is 'robust engagement with community', Kevin? I believe we have more of a used car salesman at the helm of the S.S NQA rather than a CEO.

Anonymous said...

An unnamed former Hastings executive had some interesting whispers to say about the ability of Mr Brown. Very interesting and somewhat amusing I might add. Obviously I cannot reveal all of the content, however one comment he made in regards to Brown's capability to purchase future airports and add them to the NQA portfolio was this, 'he should stick to selling snow to Eskimos'. Pretty much sums him up me thinks.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have any of the photos of Brown wearing those high heels? And also can anyone tell us if he borrowed the high heels or do they come from his own personal collection? Maybe it is standard JP Morgan executive attire.

The reason that Brisbane airport can cut deals and Cairns airport can't is because Brisbane airport is run as a professional, competent and experienced business, using a savvy and commonsense approach. Cairns airport is one of the worst examples of how to manage an airport you will ever see. Cairns is Browns first job as an actual CEO. And it doesn't half show! To put it simply he isn't up to the job. He can't attract the right talent. Instead of searching far and wide for good people, he lazily employs his 'mates' (or should that be matess's) from overseas. Friends before business, a big mistake, and a mistake that is obvious for all to see, with the exception of himself.

There are many on this blog who bag out Kevin Brown, and in my opinion rightly so. But don't forget the airport owners, they are the ones who hired this bloke, the same people who gave NQA Marcela as the Board chair. One would expect more from the likes of JP Morgan, Hastings and Auckland airport. Also remember that the same Board and CEO are responsible for that other lemon Mackay airport. That airport as had the same GM for 4 years, just like Brown as CEO, and all it has accomplished is to drag down NQA's overall value by several hundred million dollars. What a fine achievement. What is amazing is how the same management is allowed to continue at the helm? I thought superannuation companies are ruthless in their thirst to drive profits and add value? Doesn't look like it from where I sit.

I would have to agree with a well placed source who recently said that "the entire structure of NQA requires a mammoth broom. It's outdated and it's days are numbered. They should bring in the owners of QAL or NT airports to fix it up"! I found that quite amusing as it's great kudos for NQA's rivals but not a great statement about NQA.

I believe that Mr Browns empire started imploding last year and things are going from bad to worse. But I guess that you can only polish a turd for so long and eventually the shit underneath always eeks through.
Better put on those high heel shoes Kevin and pound the pavement, the reaper could be at your door. Chow

Oops, high heels and internal leaks? Doesn't seem they are the 'one team' Kevin espouses them to be. Time to gather your chicks together Kevin and 'manage them responsibly'. Oh the humility oh the shame of the wheels falling off. Happy new year!

The first direct flight from Hong Kong landed on the Gold Coast today, an awesome achievement and full credit to the Gold Coast airport and Gold Coast city council. Former airport CEO Dennis Chant and Mayor Tom Tait have worked hard on pulling this deal together. That's the difference between the Gold Coast and retarded Cairns. Could you imagine Sleepy Manning and Kevin Brown pulling off a deal like that? Manning is only good for sleeping and Brown is all talk no achievement. It really shows that having the right skilled energetic leaders can make the difference between a thriving city or a city as dead as a dog turd. It's also interesting to compare the infrastructure spend factor between the Gold Coast and Cairns. You have Gold Coast airport that has spent and developed it's asset to the point that it has become a leading airport (unlike Browns eyesore and poor excuse of an airport) and look at how Mayor Tait and his predecessor before him spent money on roads, lights and utilities while Sleepy Bob can't even spend a dime on fixing a few potholes and making sure public toilets have soap, let alone spend a cent improving our infrastructure. Also Mayor Tom Tait is an experienced and respected businessman. As for Mayor Manning, what an abject failure in business. Then Dennis Chant as Gold Coast airport CEO, years of proven experience and success. As for Brown as Cairns CEO, nothing to write home about, he likes to travel abroad and talk big but in the end - Nothing. Indeed it's an amazing comparison, an amazingly embarrassing comparison and we can only hope that we get a Tait/Chant type duo locally one day who will drive our city forwards not back into the dark ages.

The Gold Coast airport received Hong Kong Airlines first direct flight yesterday. Well done Gold Coast! Our half arsed Cairns airport will pick up some of the flow on service as they will piggy back off the Gold Coast because they are too useless to pick up our own direct service. And as usual the overpaid $260k per year Antonson has been blabbering about having 'talks' with Hong Kong Airlines next Wednesday. Yeah right, more talk no action. No doubt those talks will be followed up by her and Brown travelling to Hong Kong and enjoying another shopping spree while staying at 5 star hotels and coming back with no deals done! Then again the Gold Coast airport is now an absolute cracker so I understand why the Chinese want to fly there, lots of money invested in the airport (not just milked out of it Kevin) and it looks and feels modern and is user friendly, unlike our ugly blue panelled international terminal building with an interior that reminds you of a cheap sleezy pool hall and a crap domestic apron where you have to walk in the rain and humidity.

The rumour mill is once again running hot at CRAPL head quarters, home of the high heel wearing CEO. Supposedly Antonson is under a lot of pressure to perform and she has been 'feeling the stress'. Boohoo Janus boohoo. It's called having to work for a living.
