BOB MANNING ATTACKS PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE WHEN HE SHOULD BE SACKING HIS OWN INCOMPETENT STAFF (AND WE NEED TO SACK THIS COUNCIL)

Cairns Mayor Bob "Sleepy" Manning, living up to his moniker, has lashed out angrily at the  Queensland Parliamentary Committee taking public testimony on the Pub and Club Lockout Law changes today.

Cairns Council has already made their thoughts clear on the proposal in a letter to this committee  So why is Sleepy so angry?  Manning is angry because he won't get his opportunity to stutter and stammer his opinions on this important legislation like other Mayors across the state.

Manning however is lying by suggesting the Committee has snubbed Council's testimony.  As was made clear to Bob Manning and the Cairns (un)Regional Council CEO Peter Tabulo, all they had to do was make a request to do so.

Manning should be angry at the incompetents he's hired to manage our city.  It's their fuck-up.

But sadly, it isn't the first.

Manning has been in such a last-minute, pre-election rush to do SOMETHING about our derelict Civic Theatre he rushed the announcement and contract WITHOUT any meaningful public consultation - the result of which was that NO proper application for funding was made to the Palaszczuk Government.

And even almost two months later, Council staff STILL hasn't made a proper application!  They also haven't made any federal application for funds, either!

This is Manning Council Incompetence of epic proportions.

And it's going to cost the ratepayers MILLION$.

We always hate to admit when John MacKenzie gets something right.  But like a broken watch, MacKenzie identified the problem yesterday in a rant with a caller.  MacKenzie relates a story about how government officials typically get incomplete or ignorant proposals from Cairns, when places like Townsville know how the paperwork gets the job done.  Kevin Byrne and Val Schier knew how to get the proposals properly made, which got Cairns MILLION$ for the Lagoon and almost $100M for the Manning-ditched Entertainment Precinct.

When Bob Manning took office he sacked our very experienced and successful CEO Lyn Russell (who often gave testimony to government committees, and got competent requests into the government on-time) with the Developer's Poodle Peter Tabulo.  As CEO, Tabulo has been the key mis-manager of these important issues.

You can't make this shit up.

This kind of mis-management is governmental malfeasance. And Manning now tries to blame it on a government committee that has advised "we would have been happy to take Manning's testimony - but no one asked us for the time".  It's spineless and dishonest, Bob.  You're not fooling anyone.

Cairns Ratepayers are being victimised by the Manning Council Incompetence.  We all want a proper share of our tax money returned to us.  But we've elected idiots and layabouts who don't get it done, and hire other idiots and layabouts that don't get it done.

John MacKenzie, having identified the problem, should be asking the hard questions of our elected leaders and their poor performance.

Nah.  No testicles.

Mannings a funny little gnome and I don't mind having him as Mayor, its the other dickheads on the council that should be removed,we need decent Crs who can run the place and let Manning do his own thing,(without power)

The shock jock seems to be in the pocket of the hospitality industry to oppose these new laws. After ranting about law and order for years, now suddenly we are being told that there is no law and order issue in the CBD. He mainly caters to the Australian equivalent of the tea party, so what can you expect ? Manning is becoming more of an embarrassment every day, but that won't stop him from being re-elected by an electorate that supports every pie in the sky project like Aquis and dredging, while fighting tooth and nail against anything worthwhile like a new hospital or a world class entertainment centre. And then blames it all on Townsville...

I'm waiting for Manning to start bellyaching about how we can't get our new performing arts theatre because the Queensland Labor Government won't allocate any funding for it. He is already saying how the Council will need "government funding" AFTER the fucktard gave it back when King was elected to Campbell Newman. If you think the LNP haven't wrung out enough political capital out of the performing arts theatre, think again!

Cr. Manning's promise of a rectangular sporting stadium (ostensibly to lure the Cowboys to Cairns), which will no doubt garner votes from male footy boofheads, should be exposed for the pork barrelling farce that it is. Mayor Mumbles and his equally incompetent, under achieving minions are seemingly still a million miles away from scoring government funding for their Cairns Performing Arts Centre when Val Schier and her team managed to secure the best part of $100 million for a vastly superior waterfront precinct that would have been the envy of major Australian cities had Mumbles & co not knocked it on the head. Mumbles' current game plan appears to be to knock down the Civic Theatre after The Phantom of The Opera's run, in an attempt to put pressure on Brisbane and Canberra to make up for a sizeable funding shortfall for the replacement facility. No wonder Cairns is regarded as a joke in the corridors of power … even "Cueball" has concluded as much!

Manning has gone on the radio this morning and essentially admitted that Council errors caused the Mayor to not be offered a speaking slot in today's committee hearing.

However this DOESN'T explain why Manning, instead of just calling up the chair in question and asking for the oversight to be corrected, thinks that going to the media and doing a political beat-up was his only option?

The reason is well-known. Manning knows few of the MP's in Queensland, and hasn't put in the time to get to know them. So when a screw-up happens like today, he has no personal relationships that he can draw on. Mateship has failed the ratepayers of Cairns.

I guess you've actually got to be AWAKE and ATTEND the relevant events to build these kinds of contacts.

Great work again HBW!

I was still trying to get my head around Manning mumbling on about job losses and how he should have been invited to have his say about the new liquor laws, when he suddenly started crapping on about Aquis, which apparently will start a new Golden Age for Cairns any time soon now. Yes, that's our Mayor....

We are now being treated by expert after expert attacking the proposed new laws, but not a word from those supporting them. Nothing new there...It's like that on just about any other topic of the day, dredging, global warming, the CEP. Only the narrow minded, vested interest are ever heard.

Sleepy Bob is too lazy to run Cairns. It takes hard work and effort to be a Mayor. The goal is to apply of state and federal funding when it comes along. The fact that the Manning council either can't get applications in on time or just doesn't bother to apply shows utter contempt for their role which is looking after the Cairns region. Only an idiot wouldn't bother taking the time to fill in forms and put a business proposal together so that they can get a government gift of free money!! FFS why oh why can't we sack the lot of them?? Dickheads

Manning has been a very poor mayor. Why do you think he is okay as a mayor?. Kevin Byrne was 10 times better if we must have a right leaning mayor but Manning could only ever appeal to infantile voters who want a daddy figure the regressive stone age people that hold us back.

So he forgets to tell them he wants in then runs to the Cairns Post who mislead the people because why? If they are not corrupt then why do they always lie to the people and treat us like idiots?

Meanwhile we have no representative to support the lock out laws. I am dreaming I know but the city would proposer if it had an inclusive night-life rather than hand over the entire city to a few drunks every night of the week. The lock out is really the people who have to stay indoor every night of the week if they want to stay safe. They are the ones locked out. Would love wandering around at 11.00pm being the same as at 2.00pm. especially in this climate. But then perhaps the macho culture of violence and thuggery is too entrenched to change. And the lobby groups get to everyone it seems.

And we pay this guy?

I wonder what was the mindset of the people who backed Manning as mayor, and more to the point, who were they and for what purpose did they provide this backing. They must be "pie eaters"..

I see Council are now advertising for a replacement personal assistant for the mayor.
The knives are out

It keeps becoming clearer how the mayor's family business went under.

Anonymous said...

Knives? Dunno, how much damage can a P.A cause, generally speaking? Probably more a case of she has caught a liferaft off the S.S Manning. Can you blame her?

Poor Annie, she was a good operator, someone had to take the shit for not getting the Mayor on the list.

Cairns, and Airlie Beach, made a mistake by becoming defined by backpackers. Love them and they have helped put Qld on the map but both places became known as backpacker nightspots and it gave Cairns a low rent image. Airlie Beach should be the most upmarket destination on the Qld coast but despite all investment the Main Street drunks left the town under performing. Late night drunken behaviour issue negative for the economy and now we see any Chinese investment preferring Kewarra Beach, Palm Cove and Fung Yorkeys Knob. I am not sure about lock out laws but clinging on to the bogan culture is bad for the economy yet we have all sides of politics claiming otherwise. We have decrease in hospital visits apparently but nightlife has died down due to lower demand. A few years ago there were far more clubs yet the town tries to cling to past success rather than evolve. Backpackers down due to visa changes, lower dollar, farm work exploitation and upcoming increase in tax payable yet this is what drives our economy?

Now let's look at Manning. Non descript performing arts centre bad location, obssessed with port, defence and rectangle stadium. Wow Bob why not run for Mayor of Townsville? Why copy that city when the economy there is nosediving ever since Newman sacked public sector workers with no policy in place to generate replacement jobs? Why weaken the region being just another redneck backwater like everywhere else? We have a fragile year ahead with global markets unsure and in negative territory and be just like Townsville is the vision we have?

Lockout laws may do the town a favour but then we would need the creative minds to step up and open quirky specialist bars that are all the rage these days but perhaps we do not know how to market anything but bogan and falling down drunk.

Last I noticed Julian Tomlinson journo did not live in cairns, typical right wing news from cp and the editor needs a reality check and stop writing crap everything to get at ALP go back to where you came from and take your inadequate journos with you

Tomlinson is the same brand of politics as Abbott and the far right. Last thing we need. Seems he has a brother at Townsville Bulletin and their father was the media guy for LNP sacked for sexism. The LNP need to sort that out as Abbott and Newman extreme right was poison to regional Qld. Why would the nationals merge with the far right? Leaves rural Australia devoid of any representation, Article in The Australian recently how the National merging with Liberals has been a gift to the city liberals and left the country with nobody. Now we have " Liberals" in the region running around asking for government handouts and spending. I mean didn't they get the memo, they are neo liberals now. let us fail if that is the way the market decides.

Julian Tomlinson son of nasty Max Tomlinson who worked for many years for senator Ian Mcdonald. Not much better than Gavin King.

As a ratepayer and a taxpayer this whole thing is the biggest ripp off joke. Where the fuck is rob pyne and what is he doing apart from collecting a fat salary doing nothing except abusing his privalege and using his power to backstab and undermine his previous employer which he also used as a stepping stone to get where he is whilst doing nothing there except using our rates to feather his nest. Absolute fucking joke this shit. U cant make this shit up. They are such bigheaded bullshitting cunts.

Noticed Woolshed now has Cotton Club, maybe they understand the changing demands.

Anon 20.06

What a load of crap. If anything Pyne has not attacked his previous employer enough. Here we have YET again this pathetic excuse of a Mayor blaming State for his own screw ups. Did the same with ports after he led all the simpleton yes men morons on a merry goose chase. Pyne could improve but attacks on council have been minor and warranted compared to petty stupid attacks by the fact free Manning and the idiots at Advance Cairns on the state. They made the decision to support free market Neo liberalism which helps major economic centres like SEQ at a cost to rural regional economies, as has always been the case, then complain about what they demanded.? Stupidity is right up there in leadership. There is little demand for economic growth in Cairns so there should be no public investment until there is. Right wing politics dictates that. Suffering? Then move to where economies are stronger and stop complaining. But please never ever wear the LNP banner while whining that a socialist MP is not wasting enough money.

You have to blame the dumb electorate don't you? Good point by so Elbe about the bars though, other cities now have chic small bars . Even Perth has quite a few, they are pretty good. Still we do have Cazaleys- it oozes class.

Anonymous said...

Fuck Cazaleys, this is Cairns bro. We got the Hambo at Gordonvale. Even Billy 'the willy' Gordon could score a root there!

Hang on - Bob's rant about being locked out wasn't run by Cueball, it was Jimbob Campbell of the Compost. How has Jimbob's performance as local government reporter been? Did a job on Brain(less) to ease the way for Bob's young gun, dear old Brett Moller. Spruiks the Civic Whatsit. He's on a CRC PR dripfeed, young Jimbob.
