CUTBACK IN VITAL TOURISM SERVICES BY CAIRNS COUNCIL - RESULTS ALL TOURISTS CAN SEE AND REPORT BACK TO THEIR FRIENDS

The current Cairns Council, led by Bob "Sleepy" Manning, has stuttered their way into a new year as questions grow about the loss of vital services so that Council can boast "they're showing a profit".

One of the huge cutbacks has been on restaurant and other food service inspections.

This is despite a growing number of eateries failing their inspections.  And while most other tourism-centric destinations REQUIRE periodic inspections and posting of an inspection grading in their windows, Bob Manning has bowed to business interests and refused to implement this kind of consumer protection.

The results of this Unity Team policy were subject of a recent posting to social media, where the pic has gone viral with the heading "Sweaty Sushi a Cairns Speciality".  This "chef" was making sushi rolls and serving customers, dressed in ONLY in board shorts and a baseball cap.  Fully in public view on Shields Street, the busiest tourism route in Far North Queensland.

We understand when contacted, on a Friday afternoon, Cairns Council refused to send an officer despite being provided a copy of this internet photo.

The Unity Team is boasting on their "Vision".  Where is the "Vision" in protecting and enhancing our primary industry?

What a fucking disgrace. You would be better off buying deep fried rats from a street vendor in a Brazil slum. Cairns definitely wins the award for 'Redneck Capital Of The Universe', thanks to Council for allowing this shit to go on.

Why don'f you comment on that idiot attention seeker Pyne and his inability to work in or with a team.

Anonymous said...

Anon 0831 why don't you comment? So much of the commentary from this site is about current councillors (sycophants) doing nothing for their constituents and simply following the orders of the mayor. Rob Pyne actually listens to the concerns of the people of Cairns and raises their concerns to the government. It is clear the government doesn't care or listen to him so he will create them change for them to care and listen - political damage. This city needs more people like Rob Pyne who are prepared to stand up and fight for this city

WTF did you say Shanghai? Rob Pyne standing up for the Greens, Dr No, and the Lefty tossers that idolize him. HaHaHa

I don't thing Rob Pyne will be 'standing up' any time soon!! Ha ha

Thank you for raising this issue Hillbilly Watch.
Many years ago, as a young teenager, I suffered acute food poisoning from buying a pie at a local service station. The government doctor at the time told me, "If you were a young child or an older person, this may well have killed you." I have never forgotten the acute stomach spasms, the copious vomiting when my stomach heaved with the strength that only women who have undergone the rigorous physical exercise of childbirth know. Yes, the stomach reacted that powerfully in expelling the food!! Then there was the diarrhea! I ended up so weak and feverish, I was bed ridden for two days.

So...just recently I was out at Stockland when I decided to purchase something for lunch. I went to one of the outlets at the Food Court and bought a spinach and cheese triangle and a cold drink. While sipping my drink, I could smell this highly unpleasant odour, which I thought at first may have been coming from the floors or a nearby rubbish bin. As soon as I lifted the fork with a piece of the spinach and cheese triangle on it, to my mouth, I knew. The food was RANK. Not having the strongest of stomachs, I gagged straight away and fled to the nearest toilets where I dry retched.
Yes, I should have gone back to that food outlet and told them that they had unsafe food for sale, however by that time I was feeling so unwell, that I just wanted to go home.

If you have EVER had acute food poisoning, it is something which you never forget.

I will endeavour to let both my Councillor and my State Member of Parliament know of my experience and hope they can arrange for a Health Inspector to visit that particular food outlet.

Thank you for raising this, Hillbilly Watch!

Who is ever on Team Cairns? The team we have had are destructive to Cairns, the boys club team is to ensure they keep thier jobs. That teamwork is cronyism. To embrace, as both parties do, right wing economic policy means increased productivity that will lead to less demand for workers in regional towns like Cairns. Privatisation will only do the same, less local ownership and more branch economy. The right wing ideology demands those that cannot find work or whose business struggle relocate to where the work is. So why are the brain dead leaders of this town always on Team Destroy Cairns? Since GFC obscene wealth generated in this nation and our so called "team" make sure NSW firms get our business, offshore investors get to laugh at how gullible we are chasing 8bn casino when clear it was a sales pitch to get the license then to make sure we look like fools demand obscene sums to shift mud for pennies in ROI and silly silly pictures of chunnels costing billions and going nowhere making idiot Newmans tunnels look rational.
I am tired of Team Stupid and the breathtaking arrogance of their brain dead followers.

Pyne is not doing the damage Team Destroy Cairns has been doing , LNP took a sledgehammer to regional QLD and why not, that is their ideology. Cairns to them is a" Lifestyle choices" and yet we had a team agree we should suffer? Pyne is not a solution to many problems but he is not the problem like your "team" has been. We need him, or indeed any other contender to be Independant because teams are the problem.

Unity another team where the "team" aspect is self serving and destructive to democracy.

Cooking in this climate would be sweaty. I think we would be eating a lot of it really.

Our 'proactive' council at work. A great big outbreak of food poisoning will fix this problem. It's just a matter of time.

Yep ... I got a real bad case of diarrhea when Manning was elected ...

Perhaps I can cater for the next Council 'love-in'. I would happily shit in their meals!!

like Alison Alloway I suffered the same experience only 2 weeks ago from an outlet on the esp. the violent manner in which my body wanted to rid itself of every ounce of moisture in it and the poison within ensured I was in pain and left me weak.

an experience not to be forgotten any time soon

Following my post above, I had a conversation with Richie Bates, my divisional Councillor who assured me he would follow the matter up. So this morning, I received a phone call from an officer in the Council who is going to do an inspection of the food outlet at Stocklands where I purchased the suspect food. He said he will get back to me with the results of his inspection. I would suggest that Anonymous 07.39 who had a similar experience to mine, also contact Richie Bates and provide him with details including the name of that food outlet, so that the inspector can also visit that place.

Thanks again Hillbilly Watch for raising this issue.

And it always amazing how these slop shops, normally run by Asians, never take Eftpos, they only take cash! Gee, I wonder why. Everyone else has to pay tax, yet these assholes don't. You never see ATO doing anything about it. As I've said many times - I you're an Auatralian citizen you get squeezed for every cent while foreigners get golden handshakes. The system is fucked and so are our politicians.

Where is the leadership in Cairns?. Entsch, Manning and Pyne all useless.

Anonymous said...

Ha ha ha leadership? Yeah right. It fucks me how these muppets get voted in, or even how they had the intelligence to 'play the game' to get to the level they are at now. None of them are worth pissing on, none of them.

Early this morning at around 9.05am, I received a phone call from the Council officer who did an inspection of the food outlet at Stocklands where I purchased a suspect food item. I won't go into all the details, however I am content that he did a thorough inspection of the entire premises, checked that all health regulations were adhered, checked that heating and cooking instructions were followed etc. The owner is also going to contact the manufacturer of the item, which apparently arrives in frozen cartons at his outlet. All up, I am satisfied with what has done.
Thanks to Richie Bates who took this matter up for me straightaway.

I went straight to the owner of the outlet and encouraged strongly they dispose of the other items that had the same ingredients my meal had, they threw them all out, went through a detailed and disciplined investigation of my complaint and arrived at a conclusion, which I can readily accept.

In my experience this operator was genuinely concerned with the deterioration of my health and well being from food sold and did everything to make sure I was the only one.

Not all operators are the same

Heard of another case at Cairns Central , you might be on to something.

I was hoping to see Gavin King shirtless and working in a dim sim shop or somewhere equally tasteless. And what about Manning, let's see him run a Council meeting shirtless. Or Entsch, ride his Hog (his motorbike, not his wife) shirtless or kiss Malcolm's ass while shirtless. Or Kevin Brown posing in his Merc on a Sunday afternoon not wearing one of his queer striped shirts.....oh this town gives me too many laughs. Hillbillys indeed.

The only and singular reason the CRC is in the black is because they sacked 148 staff three years ago and saved millions by giving them to another council with no prospect of a job when they got there, no redunacy payouts. I know of at least 3 broken marriages because of it and 1 suicide as their lives and mortages crumbled.Love or hate council workers they are human and the 15 or so who have moved south took their economy with them.I hope rate payers remember that when they vote and if one of the worst councils in living memory is re- elected then don't weep to much when they find out how the civic centre with all it's faults is to be payed for.

Sad comment Anon 9:50. Manning and Newman sacked so many with no policy in place to provide replacement jobs but now demand government waste money on uneconomic projects like dredging or demand assets are sold to fund jobs in providing infrastructure we simply do not need. So they support wasteful spending on short term projects but not the more sustainable employment of workers who provide consistent money supply to the region.

Anonymous 31/1/16 09:50 - CRAP !
There were 32 staff and everyone of them needed to be sacked.

Nice response 09:50 but if you are capable of putting more than one expletive together for your knuckle dragging mates....the reasons they needed to be sacked being?
