This is the week for Cairns media missteps.
On the heels of the John "Cueball" MacKenzie apology for his participation in the John Schilling defamation of Connect Cairns mayoral candidate Jim Brooks, the Cairns Post has engaged in ethically-challenged behaviour this morning.
On the heels of the first ComPost investigation into the Cairns Hospital since - well since ever - a Cairns Post reporter Daniel Bateman has used his personal Twitter account to heap praises on the report done by one of his colleagues.
Really? You can't make this shit up.
Bateman fired up Twitter and praised the story by his colleague Bianca Sullivan as "brilliant journalism". He did this on his personal Twitter account and not on the @thecairnspost account.
Besides being misleading and unethical, this would also seem to violate the News Ltd. policies on the use of social media by Cairns Post staff.
Bateman is the principal writer of "fluff" in the Cairns Post, and has no chance of anyone referring to his work as anything but pedestrian.
