LACK OF PUBLIC TRANSIT AT CAIRNS AIRPORT - DEFENDED BY CAIRNS POST INCOMPETENCE AND LNP LIES

AND DON'T WE LOVE HOW ALL
THE "RESTRICTIONS" ON THIS
RATE ARE IN TYPE THAT CAN'T
EVEN BE READ WITH A MICROSCOPE!
The Cairns Airport continues to be run by a private consortium more interested in fattening their wallets (and that of the transport vendors) then provide proper access to the public.

They're today claiming that there's 'no interest' by TransLink (QConnect) in providing regular public bus service to the airport.  The privately-owned airport is happy with the current situation - where the only transit options are shuttle buses and taxis.  Both who pay hefty surcharges to operate to/from the airport.

And as we all know the substandard access road and lack of pedestrian facility (despite a legal requirement to provide one) leaves Cairns tourism in a disadvantaged position.

How badly do we treat our visitors?  The chart (below) shows the top airports around Australia, the top airports in Queensland, and the transport facility and availability of free WiFi in the terminals.

Note that the only two "rogue" airports are the Cairns Airport and the Mackay Airport.  Both are owned by the same private company, with the major shareholders being New York-based investment bankers.  Not Queenslanders.

The lack of affordable public transit is a bigger financial ripoff of the "precious backpacker market" than an increase of their payroll tax.  While all the tourist business crybabies attack the government for any taxing of Working Holiday Visa visitors, we gouge them when they arrive, and gouge them when they depart.  Plus all the other gouges they endure daily.  And we all know that the same business crybabies are paying large numbers of backpackers "cash in hand" - an illegal practice that will only INCREASE.

Note also the RAPE of passengers at Mackay and Cairns on parking charges.  Two regional cities in Queensland with among the highest airport car parking charges in the world.  With Mackay-area residents paying a "discount rate" of 3 days for $72!  3 days of similar parking at the Brisbane Airport is only $77!  This is a clear rort by the Cairns Airport - but just one of the pile of gouges they put in place when the Bligh Government "privatised" our airport with NO REGULATIONS IN PLACE.

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP!

And then today we've had Cueball MacKenzie and Minister for Blogs Warren Entsch DEFENDING the plan to provide $1 Billion in publicly-financed loan guarantees to the crooks at the Cairns Airport!

Was out at the Cairns International Terminal yesterday seeing a friend off at 2.00pm and the coffee shop was closed. Tourist friendly my arse.

Exactly. A third rate Hillbilly airport with decore that makes it look like an old porn film. But Kevin Brown and his JP Morgan puppet masters aren't about improving the asset, it's about stripping the asset for profits to feed his bonuses and the New Yorkers bonuses. During Browns 5 year tenure he has not improved the airports comfort level or it's embarrassing appearance, all he did was fill his pocket with bonuses and fat salaries (as he did for his friends he brought with him from overseas). He put fees and charges up, has refused to put in a footpath to the airport, he has forced local operators out, and overseen a poor management culture and staff levels at their lowest ever. He sanctioned the railroading of some good people over the past couple of years and he has allowed his managers to get away with lots and lots of stuff.
Good luck to Perth, the toe cutter is coming. One thing is certain - there will be a restructure, people will be shafted, spending cut on maintenance and improvements and it will be all about more profits and bigger bonuses for him. The NQA Board have been asleep at the wheel, and should also be punted. Hilarious how it is only Cairns and Mackay not providing free WIFI. I just hope the bald headed airport manager in Mackay doesn't become CEO. What a disaster!!!

What a stupid, short sighted thing it was selling off the airport.

The Compost loves kissing Brown's ass. Pathetic Softcocks. Kevin Brown couldn't give a shit about airport transfers by road, footpaths, or anything that doesn't return a profit. Every dollar he spends equates to a smaller bonus. Remember, this is the millionaire CEO who went to the staff Xmas party one year and he put in an expense claim for the $2:00 parking!! I kid you not. It's the same CEO who wouldn't take his Merc to Innisfail for a meeting because he didn't want to put wear on his tyres which cost around $2k! So you really think that someone that selfish could give a toss about spending money on the airport?

No more Kevin poncing around on the weekends in denim shorts displaying his lilly white legs?
No more Kevin strutting about in silly striped business shirts and looking like Priscillla Queen of the desert?
No more listening to Kevins obsession with terminal sprinklers and turning off lights to save electricity?
No more of Kevin's slick speech yet delivering SFA?
No more Kevin wearing high heels in Cairns?
No longer the sight of his shiny bald head behind the wheel of his mafia car?
No more shall we see the travel itinerary for Antonson and Kevin sitting on the office printer that shows a cost $50k for the two of them to travel to China for a week and come back empty handed, regularly.
No more will we see him poncing around the terminal gardens and car parks (I mean revenue raisers) in his 'Can I Help You' vest picking up ice-cream sticks and ciggie packets.
No more pathetically boring media stories in which he waffles on about complete shite while looking like a complete goose as he cuddles up to the likes of Manning and Entsch.
No more of his silly Scottish arrogance, uncontained emotions or pig headed arrogance that has cost him dearly over the years.
No more Kevin in general!!! Yippee

We got ripped of for parking just last week, the website said it was cheaper for overnight parking at International so we went there but it was the same price as the more convenient domestic. It was like $50.

Also if the bus is not viable how will they cope with light rail?

Cairns is totally retarded. Crap airport, crap roads, crap public transport. I don't blame Turnbull for shunning the place. Why throw good money into shit? Start at the top, get rid of the likes of Entsch, Manning, Kevin Brown, that idiot Deb Hancock and then maybe just maybe we will be looked after. But for the time being we really are a laughing stock.

I was in a cafe recently and overheard 2 of Kevin Browns inner sanctum ripping into him behind his back. One of the females used language that I haven't heard since I last worked on the wharfs many years ago. These 2 individuals were senior managers as I overheard everything, including them sticking it into other staff and discussing personal internal matters such as staff behaviour, written warnings and dismissals, very sensitive stuff. However they saved the best spray for the CEO. I'm too dignified to repeat what they said but I can assure you that if ever he found out he would sack them instantly.

Anonymous said...

Annon 23:02, I've heard similar stories. That is an exorbitant price and also deceptive marketing, but would you expect anything less from a tight fisted Scot? I'm glad he is leaving, no loss to Cairns.

Anonymous said...

I've heard that some have nicknamed him 'Kero', short for kerosene, due to all the aviation fuel leaking at the international airport. Quite an amusing nickname for the proud bonus loving CEO.

Ol Kevin hey, leaving? He aways was full of himself. But to think he won't be strutting around in his wonderful colourful shirts, ridiculous safety vest and those famous high heels!!! He is so arrogant that he doesn't realise how his staff are always taking the piss out of him behind his back. Fool

I was hoping that if the airport puts the concrete footpath in that they might also make a snug fitting pair of concrete boots for baldy and drop him in the mangroves! Either the crocs will eat him, the Mosquitos will gnaw on his bald head or he will drown in the leaking aviation fuel......bye bye Jessie

I am in a position where vision problems no longer allow me to drive - and am travelling to Brisbane soon for a family reunion. I have a good friend who is good enough to run me around to the doctors hospital shopping etc. When I asked him if he could maybe drop me to the airport - he said " fuck that - I'd sooner sling you $50 for a taxi ." I feel that pretty much sums up the situation.

Anonymous said...

WTF did you say Shanghai? your a wanker.

Kevin Brown also has problems with his vision - all he can see is dollar signs!!

An executive with Hastings once told me that 'Kevin is great at managing upwards", in other words he is good at dazzling the Board members, painting a rosy picture and keeping his Board from finding out about what is really going on internally, but at the same time he is 'completely useless at managing downwards", managing the people below him, ensuring he has good managers who are doing a good job....I think that sums him up perfectly. No wonder he is bailing, the wheels have finally fallen off and it's time to bail and leave the mess behind.

Most of Zimbawe's airstrips are better than Kevin Brown-eye's Cairns airport. Considering he has had 5 years to turn the airport into a world class facility, he gets a -2 on my scale. Look at what the Gold Coast and Darwin airports have achieved in the same 5 year period! An incredible transformation. Not Cairns and not Mackay, these two airports are complete jokes. Speaking of Queensland, even Whitsunday airport and Sunshine Coast airport have kicked ass and done great things. Then you have Rockhampton and Gladstone along the coast, and the new Wellcamp airport at Toowoomba. But wait, there's more. Inland we have had Roma, Emerald and Longreach improvements. As a pilot and businessman these airports are important, and the quality has improved. So my argument is that it can be done. But Cairns? What a pathetic joke.

Have NQA found a replacement for Mr colourful queer shirts yet? Have any of Kevin Browns protected species incompetent twat management left yet?
C'mon Kevin, do us all a favor and please manage your staff responsibly and take all the managers with you. We won't miss you or them! We just want our airport back, it was a great place until you came along and started to allow the deadbeat managers full power to wreck the place while you turned a blind eye and kept your tongue buried in the Boards assholes. A competent Board would've done to you what they did to Marcella.

Shanghai I had a blowup as well with the Iriish Sheila who has a saggy ass and Botox injections to try to look young (isn't working). She has been there for years and shuffled through every department at the airport. Loud, dopey and a sook. See ya Kevin ya ponce

Ol mate Brownie must be under the pump, he has had a few kiniptions in the past few weeks. You should see his face turn red when he is angry. He finds it very hard to control his silly emotions. I do hope his replacement isn't such a douche.

Anonymous said...

Rumour has it that some of NQA's major stakeholders are not happy with how Brown has run the place and with what he is leaving behind. Not only that but one of the stakeholder partners is commissioning a private audit and review of the NQA business, and Brown knows nothing about this......until now!

The car parking prices in Mackay an Cairns shows just how disconnected with reality and the community Kevin Brown and his footstool in Mackay are. A shitty little airport in Mackay charging similar to Brisbane prices? I suggest that in both Cairns and Mackay people should boycott parking there. People need to do the following;
a) Petition the media to run stories about this gouging of the local residents.
b) Car pool, travel in groups to save costs
c) Grab a lift from friends, slip them a $20 note to be dropped of and picked up from the airport, it is still cheaper than parking there.
d) Do whatever you can to avoid parking at the airport. Park offsite at one of the local car parking businesses. It is cheaper, supports a local business and sends a messag to Kevin Brown and his New York bankers. Hit the airport in its hip pocket. Remember, those car park fees are feeding NQA's profits and Kevin's bonuses. Strip their lifeline.
e) Look for ways to avoid paying the fees. Do things such as Tailgate each other out of the carpark. Don't worry about and CCTV, they only check it if someone reports something, which is never. Of teen the cameras aren't working anyway.

I know of airports interstate where mass vandalism of car park equipment has also sent a strong message to the airport owner crooks. But I'm not encouraging that here.

Send Baldy Brown a strong message people. He doesn't want people being transported to and from his airports because he doesn't earn profits from that. He wants you to park at his airport. DONT DO IT!!!

One of Kevin's "close inside associates" recently told me that Kevin boasted about how rich he intended to become, at any cost. He even said that he has never ever been drunk before, and while everyone at Uni was getting pissed he was hitting the books. He is totally career (and money) focused and nothing else matters. While some people may say this is a fantastic thing, in reality it shows the personality of a person driven by the sole goal of benefitting only himself in life, not his staff, the community or the assets he manages. Everything he does is to benefit himself. Is it any wonder that the airport and it's staff have so many issues? The bloke is out of touch, living in Kevin land only. What Kevin forgets is that karma is real and it can be a real bitch. No amount of money will prevent a fatal heart attack or cancer, or prevent a fatal head-on car crash, or stop your wife rooting the young tradesman next door, or prevent your kids from growing up as spoilt little shits addicted to ICE. Don't forget that lesson Kevin, what goes around comes around mate.

Brown and his puppet managers have embarked on a campaign to shut down any staffer who raises internal issues. Management like everything to look just dandy while trying to gag anyone who raises any problems. In the past year or two Cairns airport has received multiple non conformances in their security, safety and operations areas. A large increase over previous years. This explains and justifies the concerns of Regulators. It also explains why issues such as the leaking aviation fuel are only now coming to light after years of being hushed up. Staff have had a gutful of being bullied or being made to feel like their jobs are in jeopardy even for doing the right thing. Money money money and budgets budgets budgets is a that counts to Kevin. Who cares about fuel leaks.

Anonymous said...

hey brownie you muppet now that you are leaving will you be taking the source of all your internal leaks with you? ha ha ha maybe not but you better have your office checked for hidden bugs cos it's very accessible by staff at times ha ha ha. No secrets bro.

Anonymous said...

I used to work at Cairns airport. There were rumours back then over 3 years ago that staff had bugged the CEO office and would then sit in adjacent offices listening while the CEO held meetings. The staff would then have firsthand knowledge of all the 'high level' stuff. I think that is quite amusing actually. I wonder if they also heard the Scotsman farting after a corporate lunch and his never ending cups of great tea?

Anonymous said...

Why would you want to bug Baldy Browns office anyway? What secrets would there be? NQA has no strategy, they haven't purchased additional airports, they don't spend on their current airports, they haven't picked up any additional full fare carriers, they haven't started building any extra infrastructure at either Cairns or Mackay airports, and all Baldy Brown does is cut costs, cut back on staff, cut back on maintenance and give himself and his executives payrises and bonuses, and there is nothing new in any of that! Perhaps the secret bugging picked up Brown discussing business shirt colours with his tailor, or what options to include in his new Mercedes, or what style of high heels to purchase next, or where to buy Haggis in Cairns?

Anonymous said...

baldy brown loves his cups of queer green tea.probably thinks it makes him more masculine, however anyone that drinks tea like him, wears those poofy shirts and dresses up in high heels is more like Prince.does baldy also get plastic surgery like the old ugly boilers who work for him?

I've been told the management environment can only be described as thoroughly toxic. Which is interesting because any given culture is reflective of what people at the very top are like. So Kevin Brown has a lot to answer for considering the state of the place after 5 years of his leadership. I wish Perth airport well, and I wish them a lot of luck as they are going to need it.

Anonymous said...

Have they plugged the fuel leak yet? It's only been going on for at least 4 years. I've been told that a number of dodgy welds have been repaired but the fuel is still leaking and is uncontained. Also some of the fill beneath underground fuel pipes is sub-standard everywhere. I've also been told that the domestic terminal baggage area often smells like shit due to poor underground sewerage pipe work, and because of what the repairs would cost the airport has chosen to ignore the issue. There are many issues with the general aviation area pavement quality which is also receiving minimal attention and only receives temporary patch up work. At least a million dollars needs to be spent. I've also heard that the airport flood gates don't close fully due to sub-standard original workmanship, and as a result they don't do their job properly. These are some of the bigger issues, not to mention the smaller ones that also pose problems on a regular basis. Good work Kevin, hope Perth know what they are in for, and I hope your replacement CEO in Cairns also knows what he/she is inheriting.

Too funny too funny. The airport ARO'S and refuellers love HBW. These posts have us pissing ourselves laughing so please don't stop. CEO's and senior managers have come and gone over the years and each time it ends the same way, in tears. Kevin is not much different to the rest of them as he is just part of a long line of boss's who have done jack shit while earning squillions. Some of us have spent decades at this airport and still laugh at all the management shennanigans that go on with managers having heart palpitations, nervous breakdowns, rooting each other and having uncontrolled outbursts ba ha ha. The funny thing is that Brown, Geatches, Manning have always been aware of the mischief but chosen to turn a blind eye. It's part of the hillbilly culture and will continue under the next CEO.

Hilarious airport hijinxs with the stupid 5 rag heads this morning. AFP did a stellar job but the funny bit was the CAPL staff running around trying to be important yet acting like complete gooses! I'm surprised we didn't see ol stripey shirts Brown taking charge like the control freak normally does? Perhaps he was at early morning tap dance class breaking in his latest pair of high heels, or counting $0.5 coins he found with a metal detector in the airprt gardens!! Fools

I thought Kevin would have added another airport to his Group before he left for Perth? He has only had 5 years in which to achieve this, but still nothing! All talk no action. Rumour has it that his GM Mackay airport is worried that he is being overlooked for CEO so is now considering bailing. He allegedly applied for a position at Wellcamp airport but was turned down. He allegedly applied for the top position at the civil aviation safety authority but was turned down, some time ago though. Seems everyone wants to leave NQA, I wonder why? Who cares, as long as they bugger off, right?

Anonymous said...

The NQA CFO announced weeks ago that 9 new routes were going to be added to Cairns. Of course he didn't go into detail (what a shock), and we are still eagerly awaiting the 'big news'! C'mon Ian, announce something. Surely you can tell us something. Anything. Obviously you haven't brokered any deals yet. Is Antonson flying business class on a world trip to cut these deals? Is she heading to China again with Mr stripey shirts for one last spend up before he leaves? (and I guess before she leaves as well because only an idiot CEO or one who is your mate would keep someone like her employed on over $260k per year) while producing only tacky lightweight wins for the 'team'.
I hope Perth airport have plenty of frequent flyer points ready to give to Kevin as he loves those international trips. No shortage of company money to spend on himself that's for sure. But don't ask Mr tight arse to shout you a coffee out of his own pocket!! He also likes a car park space close to the office so he can gaze out of the office window at his beloved Merc and make sure his baby is all safe and sound. (Even though the rest of the underpaid workforce arrive at work in their old shitboxes and have to drive past the Capitalists car).
Not long to go now Kevin, you will be on your way! We are already cheering, planning a few drinks, getting ready to celebrate the day you are finally gone. Can't wait bro! Although most of your executive 'team' seem to be a bit edgy now that their protective cover is leaving. Too funny too funny

Anonymous said...

An airport insider told me Herr Brown and his NQA 'team' are bidding for Sunshine Coast airport and hoping to buy it. God help the Sunny Coast if Kevin's 'team' get their hands on another airport! However considering he hasn't bought anymore airports in 5 years as NQA CEO I would presume he will be unsuccessful, which would be a good thing. The poor sunny coast have plans to spend money on their airport, not strip it to the bone. Plus the airport currently has good wifi and car parking fees that aren't too excessive, and we all now what Kev would do to those car park fees and aircraft parking fees! (He likes the easy wins and picking the low hanging fruit so as to turn over a quick buck and make higher profits). Plus he will be gone soon so hopefully he keeps his paws off the sunny coast airport and can concentrate on Perth (HA HA HA HA Perth).
Mind you, it would be funny to see the high heel wearer strutting around Noosa's granite bay in his colourful speedo's, lilly white legs and bald melon. Perhaps he would confuse the granite bay rocks with Haggis?

Don't ask Bob Katter what he thinks about Kevin Browns little airport! Bob has a long memory and from what I've heard he still thinks the airport is complete crap. A source recently told a few outsiders that Kevin's airport team have worked very hard to keep recent non-compliances in operational areas 'quiet', but without success. What I now think is thoroughly appalling is how the NQA Board have allowed the present group of managers to exist for so long. They are not capable of doing what needs to be done, and that is to bring in a new external CEO and just as important they need to purge the organisation of all current senior managers. One good enema should do it!

Anonymous said...

I was told that one of the reasons behind NQA not performing as well as it should is because instead of executive management concentrating on their airports and developing, expanding, improving their businesses they spend their time travelling the world seeking out fantasies rather than putting in the hard yards and ground work locally. Always looking for 'easy victories'. Lazy and inexperienced approach. All piss and wind, and it actually shows. I agree with other comments that it is now time to look at the Board for answers, and it sounds to me like most of the Board should also be rolled. The past 5 years is the measuring stick, and it doesn't look too good.
