NEW TRADEWINDS TOWER HAS TINY, ODD
SHAPED ROOMS SERVED ONLY BY
ONE TINY GUEST ELEVATOR. BUT HEY, IT
LOOKS NEAT FROM THE OUTSIDE!
The poodle councillor for the Esplanade area has, as usual, refused to respond to these myriad of issues. Nice going Richie.
When the Tradewinds was first approved in the 1980's, adjacent property owners battled with the council about the shortfall of parking. At the time, the 256 room property was required by the then inadequate parking code to have 187 off-street parking spaces. The developers bullied the council into an approval with only 139, but subsequently only built 95.
OBJECTIONS TO THE ORIGINAL 1986 APPROVAL ABOUT PARKING SHORTAGE
The new development adds 55 more rooms, and has provided a consultant's report that suggests that the 95 are completely adequate for the greatly-enlarged project! The Cairns (un)Regional Council has, under Sleepy Bob, been completely under the grip of developers and their consultants, so don't look for anyone at council to question this bogus report.
In part the report completely ignores the parking requirements for STAFF. Which is understandable, since employees at the Tradewinds have always been told to "park on the street".
More serious however is the employment of Prime Constructions (Qld) P/L as contractor for this project. Prime is only licenced as a Category 3 Contractor in Queensland. This limits the company, and owner Andy Taylor, to projects no more than $30M in value.
Emails to Prime have not had a response. An email to the Prime PR shill Danae Jones wouldn't have much weight - she's a known bankrupt (In Touch Media) that left employees dudded, and former front-man to Cairns' Minister for Blogs, Warren Entsch. We wouldn't trust a word she said, so tainted is HER credibility.
TERRY JAMES SHOVELING SHIT
Starting out with a contractor who isn't licenced for this kind of project makes tradies even MORE vulnerable.
The upgrade to the existing Tradewinds building has NO additional elevators - a known shortcoming that has been well documented in TripAdvisor.
There's no stopping the ghost train. All aboard!!! We look forward to the ribbon-cutting - we understand Bashar al-Assad will be hosting the festivities!
