CAIRNS' FIRST SUPERLINER VISIT
When Campbell Newman and the LNP defeated the failed ALP government of Anna Bligh-Beattie, John MacKenzie took great comfort in his alleged "iron-clad commitment" from Newman to dredge the inlet. Rapist-defender Gavin King built a brief political career on it before going back to "journalism" (his own dodgy website because no REAL new outlet will have him).
The LNP failed to deliver, and even "hid" the environmental report from the public. After losing the election to Palaszczuk, she and treasurer-trainee Curtis Pitt manipulated this report to suggest the cost would be almost $400 Million. Clearly not something a cash-strapped Queensland government was going to build.
Everyone knew the $400 Million quote was a bald-faced lie.
Now with an election looming, Pitt has "figured out" a way to partially dredge the inlet, pump the dredge spoil into Yorkey's Knob, all for the bargain basement price of $120M!
Which will blow out to $400M - AFTER the election it is designed to help Palaszczuk win!
Politicians on both sides dangle a treat in front of us, that yank it away after it has done their political job. There is NO economic justification for this project - it can NEVER produce enough revenue to account for the cost. What's changed?
How about spending $120M on the shitty road infrastructure, the missing upgrade to the Kuranda Range road, the lack of city bypass, the pie-in-the-sky Bob "Sleepy" Manning light rail project? None of these projects stack up either, but they're not a lazy $120M being given to a (likely) Chinese dredging bidder.
We're a mob of stupid fuckers in Cairns, aren't we?
