I can't see many of the tourists staying at the Aquis resort coming into the CBD, and the current hotels will certainly lose a hell of a lot of business. Ditto, most of the convention trade will be lost to Aquis. Turning the CBD into a residential area, with high rise apartment buildings and selling to wealthy Asians seems to be the plan. I predict a lot of the current businesses in the CBD will just disappear as Cairns becomes the new Asian frontier. We will see the emergence of businesses servicing the students, Asian restaurants and takeaways and so on. High rise apartments bought by their wealthy parents will house most of the students. They will secure part time employment at the Aquis Resort, if they need to fund their studies. Aquis will offer housing for thousands of wealthy Chinese who will buy land, businesses and housing in the Cairns region. As is the case in China with politics, local politicians will be bought and owned lock, stock and barrel by wealthy Chinese entrepreneurs. Hence we can see where certain individuals in Cairns are $$$ right behind Aquis.Observernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-39172491094877320242013-12-17T17:55:43.157+10:002013-12-17T17:55:43.157+10:00Wonder how many of this crew will be whinging, whi...Wonder how many of this crew will be whinging, whining and bellyaching away once Aquis draws the public away from the CBD, they cant get into the hospital for treatment and driving out to the beaches takes hours through bottlenecked traffic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-47956377614256856832013-12-16T08:05:04.247+10:002013-12-16T08:05:04.247+10:00White Elephant. Chair's NEVER select members of Parliamentary Committees. The various parties nominate their own representatives and these are then confirmed by the House of Representatives and the Senate.

This process was completed last week. So who is the Deputy Chair? Alannah MacTiernan (ALP, member of Perth, WA). No Nova Peris, No Scott Ludlum, No Ian McDonald and of course no Clive Palmer. What else did he say that was absolute tosh? Why is it always about him?

The Green paper and White Paper on Northern Australia are being developed in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Not by Entsch's sad little committee.
