In fact if one of them farts they usually make a media statement about it. So why are they all quiet about the deal with Alpha flight catering to build a catering building at the airport? I heard there are two issues, one being that the competition of having the extra facility at the airport may put locals out of jobs, and the second being that the buildings location means they will have to build over mangroves and other protected ground. Anyone know if this is true? HBW? It is very out of character for these attention seekers to be so quiet about something that they normally would class as a big scoop.

Lots of questions surrounding this mob. All secretive about the Alpha building (possible environment impact), helipads in the mangroves, GA to be relocated and shops built in its place (except there may be fire fighting perfluorochemicals under some of that ground), tens of thousands of litres of aviation fuel leaking under the tarmac, a paint spill that leaked into the Baron due to dodgy floodgates, noisy engine runs in the late of night, and the list goes on. Are they exercising environmental best practise? Who or what people have oversight of these very sensitive issues considering the airports close proximity to the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef? Why aren't the EPA or even UNESCO taking a much closer look at these issues? Where is the in-depth and holistic external audit that this airport desperately needs? Or is this just normal redneck hillbilly activity that is not only accepted by the NQA Board but also accepted by local council?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-39404419416589624122016-02-13T13:01:12.477+10:002016-02-13T13:01:12.477+10:00Nice one, so I.T are monitoring staff phone record...Nice one, so I.T are monitoring staff phone records and emails. Demands for spending by the state when we really have no real deficit in infrastructure. State should only spend where there is clear capacity constraints or long term economic advantages will occur. Demands by those that have destroyed the economy by creating headlines about the state being bankrupt, economy not able to withstand lock out laws, economy collapsing if dredging does not occur and both parties allowing AQUIS too much time when they have been negligent in providing information required. Of course private sector will wait until they know what happens. Why build a new hotel when he is to build 9.? Business are not demanding he be given a license as such, but that a decision be reached. All these issues have been given the reactionary make over, a sure fire way to see dive in business investment. In short the town is telling the world we are a basket case then they cry when investors take note.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-52646270898286496222016-02-12T12:44:54.691+10:002016-02-12T12:44:54.691+10:00Dunno much about Mackay but I know a chick who wor...Dunno much about Mackay but I know a chick who worked for Cairns airport and she described it as completely toxic Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-21594529156915764152016-02-12T09:37:11.296+10:002016-02-12T09:37:11.296+10:00It's interesting how this discussion is about ...It's interesting how this discussion is about Cairns airport and it's performance (of lack of). NQA own both Cairns and Mackay airports, and Brown is CEO of both. It seems that Cairns is not the only airport operating to a shoe string budget and not investing money back into its airport. I was in Mackay a month ago on business and an insider told me that the airport has dragged down NQA's overall value by well over $100 million in the past 2 years. Apparently the new airport hotel is a laughing stock as it was built after the mining boom, and only has an occupency rate below 30% and it is too far from the town centre and you need to get a cab to go to restaurants. The same person said 'you probably have only one occupant per floor, and there is no need for a buffet breakfast because there are no people'. NQA are also looking to possibly outsource the management and running of the airport, a bit like how BMA outsourced Moranbah. Wasn't it Kevin Brown and the NQA Board who approved the hotel? So I guess it isn't just Cairns airport that is a joke, so is Kevin's other airport. Oh, and isn't it part of the NQA strategy to buy more airports? Heaven help us, because if that is the case then I am pulling my money from my super fund.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-47266626377104958632016-02-11T20:30:29.413+10:002016-02-11T20:30:29.413+10:00That's why they constantly have to cut service...That's why they constantly have to cut services all over the place. Anyone with talent or brilliance was on the first plane out allowing the mediocre to become managers and business owners and prominent in the press. Now this less than stellar mob hold positions that have more importance than the talented youngsters that fled all those years ago. Survival means they cannot be outed for the dills they are so they only allow mediocre newbies in who will not show them up. So the cycle of stupidity is maintained.

If we break that cycle, the old colonic irrigation, then Cairns has possibly the most potential of all Australian smaller cities. Changing a hillbilly culture to a progressive one is a hard task though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-35709402579035836062016-02-11T16:18:07.460+10:002016-02-11T16:18:07.460+10:00How funny is that, 30 mins of free slow download. ...How funny is that, 30 mins of free slow download. I wonder if management came up with that innovative idea (not likely as they don't come up with any ideas), or I wonder if staff came up with the idea? I don't recall seeing that idea on the wall at "lunch n learn" the other week. Oh well, considering the GM's are all on between $200k to $260k (accept for one of them) you would think that they could come up with some decent idea? Then again, the "orange shirts" have carried the office Muppets for years so nothing surprises me. Can we nominate the airport for an award for "Airport that best represents the 1970's"? Let's look at the difference. Firstly, the Gold Coast airport had Denis Chant as CEO. A lot of money has been pumped into the airport under his tenure and strategic direction, and he took the airport from Hillbilly status to a premium facility. Denis was an experienced CEO with a proven track record in business dealings and was known for getting the job done.

Then take a look at Darwin airport. Another experienced and astute CEO with Ian Kew. An experienced businessman with an excellent business acumen and again, a proven track record as a CEO and businessman. Darwin airport is almost unrecognisable and good money has been pumped into this asset. Again, as with the Gold Coast, Ian has taken the airport from Hillbilly status to a premium airport. Well done.

That leaves us with......Cairns, the hillbilly airport managed by Mr colourful shirts Kev Brown. Brown is an electrical engineer who dabbled in customer service. Cairns is his first job as a CEO (and hopefully his last). In almost 5 years uder his tenure what improvements have been made?? Higher car park fees, clapped out slow wifi (free for 30 mins) and heaps and heaps of bollards around the airport to prevent free parking! Absolutely nothing but lots of international trips, a couple of awards for clean terminals and plenty of Board level ass kissing. Kev may be good at working his way up the ladder and impressing Board members with slick talk and fancy clothing, but once you slice through the trimmings you only have to look at what has changed in the 5 years he has been in charge? SFA. Darwin and Gold Coast are the benchmark, not Cairns. Cairns is a lesson in how to spend nothing, extract everything, and leave behind a carcass.

This city needs real business leaders, real political support, real direction. Sadly as HBW has consistently shown we receive none of the above and we are paying for it.
Time for a massive colonic irrigation of the region.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-87171336244999738032016-02-11T06:05:18.583+10:002016-02-11T06:05:18.583+10:00no suprise here...sad very sad, absolutly hate the...no suprise here...sad very sad, absolutly hate the place! detest approaching the vicinity..
