I can't find any details on the extent of it however. I agree that we are seeing the beginning of the privatisation of our State hospitals. We are already seeing it cut up into chunk sized bites, if you like, ie pharmaceuticals and pathology for privatisation. The entire privatisation of such a huge organisation would be complex and lengthy, however the LNP have been given the time frame in which to pull it off and can easily complete it before any major public backlash sweeps them out of office.rubynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-52367918756534810682012-12-21T06:14:56.439+10:002012-12-21T06:14:56.439+10:00A poll taken by "The Age" newspaper is a...A poll taken by "The Age" newspaper is asking readers whether it bothers them or not that Swan has ditched his commitment to have a surplus in next years budget. Well over 60% of voters on the poll replied "No." Yet here we have Queensland's LNP going "gung ho" ripping into the frail aged and the handicapped, tossing people out of institutions, starting privatisation of essential health services and so on, trying to get a surplus in as short a time as is possible. White of course is a multi-millionaire. The Cairns Post, needless to say, is not mentioning it, but a couple of the Brisbane newspapers have. Despite the raving and ranting the LNP did about Anna not seeking a "mandate" to sell off Queensland Rail (which didn't affect people's health!) they are attempting to privatise stealthily and covertly without any mention of a "mandate".
The reprehensible fact of privatising this all important part of health care, is that the blood sucking CEOs and heartless shareholders will suck out as much as they can, ignoring the plight of the really sick and the needy while regurgitating that awful lie, "Oh the State was so much nto debt, these services HAD to be privatised." Sadly, some of the hillbillies will believe this, unable to comprehend the huge profits going into the pockets of a few people. Yet, there are ...Jan from Kewarra, you are spot on. Yet, there are big buckaroos to be made from privatising health services, big big smackeroos for the select few who will be "shareholders" and "CEOs". Just like Telstra, immediately following privatisation, they will be all out to gouge as much money out as fast as possible. Sure, there may be some sort of outcry if patients die or wind up being re-admitted and maybe some sort of checks may be put in place, but basically I predict they will remain privatised until a change in the Queensland government, which is not likely for quite a few years. We could also see where the Federal Government may be called upon to "provide" for the poorer patients. Basically what these privatised corporations will do will be to "privatise their profits" and "socialise their losses". Another area which looks like being privatised is the home care service industry such as HACC Services.Jethronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-6559502099824478142012-12-20T07:25:26.351+10:002012-12-20T07:25:26.351+10:00Privatising public hospital pharmacies - that goin...Privatising public hospital pharmacies - that going to be an interesting outcome.

Current hospital policy is something along the lines of if a patient is prescribed new meds whilst in hospital, they are given a certain amount to go home with (just a few days supply), and then either the patient or the family then has to get another prescription from their local doctor, then get their script filled.

One can only speculate what is going to happen if public hospital pharmacies are privatised......either dead patients or patients re-admitted very shortly after discharge!!!Jan from Kewarranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-38139412935066728022012-12-20T06:55:35.896+10:002012-12-20T06:55:35.896+10:00ruby, there are moves afoot to privatise hospital ...ruby, there are moves afoot to privatise hospital pathology services as well as pharmaceutical services. We are experiencing the stealthy privatisation of our free hospital scheme. It will mean compromised health services for patients as there are, understandably, huge profits to be made here. I predict pathology services will be outsourced to Malaysia or Vietnam where there are no quality assurance controls and pharmaceuticals will also be bulk purchased from China where once again they are not subject to quality controls. Queenslanders could well find they have been diagnosed with a benign cyst when in fact they have a cancer. They could also be given what doctors believe are "pain killers" but are in fact crushed up dog turds. But, never mind, the CEOs appointed by the Newman Government, will be on multi million dollar salaries, and their limited shareholders, also full of LNP members, will be laughing all the way to the bank.Jethronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-65154921775964201822012-12-20T04:10:42.536+10:002012-12-20T04:10:42.536+10:00Twomey was Chair of the local LNP at one time.
