They've had floodgate problems airside. Is it fixed yet? Wet terminal roof paint flowed into drains and into the little Baron. Did EPA do anything? Up to 40,000 litres of leaked aviation fuel is sitting under the international tarmac, which just so happens to be a few hundred meters from the ocean. Fixed yet? Crumbling general aviation Tarmac area. Fixed yet? Turnover of security, operations and compliance staff and an increase in audit non compliances. Fixed yet? Safety issues with the runway lighting bridge that goes across the Baron river. Fixed yet? Poor morale and hated managers. Why? Rental increases for tenants. Tick. Rental increases for light aircraft operators. Tick. Increases in car park fees. Tick. Rental increases for hire car operators. Tick. Pay for luggage trolleys. Tick. Budget cutbacks. Tick. Poor management behaviour. Tick. Lots of overseas travel and expenditure by executive management and the Board. Tick.
Stupid childlike strategy sessions in the board room with butchers paper, minties and a roll call that staff hate. Tick. All talk no action. Tick. Airport shops allegedly operating illegally (as reported in HBW). What's the outcome of that? No roadway footpath and a pedestrian gets killed. What's the outcome of that? Precious mangroves that have survived for centuries are to be removed for a helicopter landing area. Seriously, who has signed off and permitted that? Us tenants being forced to attend stupid boring safety and security meetings which are poorly facilitated, drag on forever, cost us precious time and valuable resources and are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Tick. Not enough water stations airside to provide us with a drink during these stinking hot summers.Tick.......puke, I'm done with this airport and Cairns. If Kevin Brown buggered off back to Scotland (and took his stupid coloured shirts with him) the airport would survive, we wouldn't miss him. Browns role quite simply is to squeeze as much as he can out of the local community - lease increases, car parking fees, litigate against competition, cut local staff positions where he can, minimise spending on the community airport, all about money and profits, nothing else. The Scotsman and JP Morgan are the perfect match - it's all about bonuses and profits for both, greed greed greed. Airports aren't a challenge in general, they are a gaurentred revenue earner. However what concerns me above profits are deaths due to not having footpaths, massive fuel leaks, environmental risk and security breaches. That is not how an airport should be run. What are we as a community going to do about this? We need to demand answers to questions? We need to demand that these problems are fixed? We shouldn't accept the way out airport is being managed as being acceptable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182703408922632531.post-71256638621956141772016-01-25T13:11:53.309+10:002016-01-25T13:11:53.309+10:00So we had the walk yesterday for Dinah, it was a t...So we had the walk yesterday for Dinah, it was a touching event. Naturally neither Bob Manning nor Kevin Brown attended, the two people who should be putting their bald heads together to formulate a plan to put in a footpath. Bob would've been sleeping and Brown would have probably been Poncing about Port Douglas in his black mafia Merc in his little shorts and lilly white legs. Absolutely pathetic that a regional Mayor and a representative of JP Morgan the capitalists can't cough up a few cents to pay for the footpath. Safety, what safety?
I hope Dinahs loved ones get some peace from yesterday's walk, it was certainly supported by people with a moral conscience who aren't more concerned with profits and bonuses. There aren't tanks under the ground in those locations, there are high pressure fuel lines that lead directly to the fuel facility (left side of the airport as you approach from the South). So take a look at the master plan and use that as a year stick to measure if they are performing up to scratch. As for still not having a footpath one year after a death, that is plain irresponsible. If Brown said that 'safety measures' have been put in place, what are they? One or two pathetic signs? Not good enough. As for grossly high GA costs, again is that part of the master plan? CAPL closed and decommissioned a runway. How is that an airport improvement? What about the continuous noise issues from constant aircraft engine runs in the early hours of the morning which wakes the Aeroglen residents? It is still going on. What about the security breaches with loonies jumping airport fences, another threatening to torch himself in the domestic terminal. What security improvements have been made? Personally I would be wondering for how much longer the NQA Board would be willing to endure these high level issues? From the outside it appears that Brown has little to no control and his senior managers are allowed to do whatever they want with no recourse. When the issue of the footpath was brought up it hit a road block with the fact that the bridge would need to be wider, and the road at some point needs to be wider, so they cant build a footpath now before they address those upgrades too.

With the moving of the airport services from the Aeroglen side there seems to be a hitch with the land lease/sale? of the mangrove area. They must know there will be a big stink about destroying all the mangroves and must be trying to figure out a way around it/push it through.

The fuel leaks probably require removing the tanks and replacing them. Very big job and they may have plans in place to move them to another area and its held up by not being able to move forward on other related constructions.

So yes I can see why things are a mess there, but what really bothers me is the usual behind closed doors decisions and discussions that the public are not privy too. Why the secrecy? why can't they come forward with updates and plans and let Cairns know what it actually being planned? But this is the common theme with this Council, that the public doesn't need to know anything, or be consulted in anything. The Council knows best and the public should just follow alone like sheep. The posters even include smiley faces! Yoohoo how exciting! Anyway, all staff are expected to attend (so much for a democracy) and they have to sign in as well. They are even badgered to enter a silly competition and if they don't (naturally all names are checked against a list) then they are hassled by their executive manager. I was told that the staff hate it, that none of the projects (fantasies) ever come to fruition, and that it is a thoroughly lame and childish, amateur waste of valuable time and that they feel like they are in primary school. Not my words folks, these are the words of their staff. My question is this - does Kevin attend it as well, wearing those high heels and dancing a jig?
